I think he needs to put it into his space shuttle and send it to Mars with the other dreamers. That thing is butt ugly.

American Musclecar Transport
TarheelRick replied to Bills72sj's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
When you get a chance you can come by my house and drop of that Mustang in my driveway. Beautiful build on the rig and the muscle. Hope that driver has a really good insurance policy, there is close to $1 million + on that trailer. -
Issue #206, Contest Issue, MAILED!!!
TarheelRick replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Arrived in Hamptonville, NC today. Dark photos were a bit distracting, but at least I have an issue I can hold in my hands. -
As the others have said this is an excellent build. Your color choices and cleanliness of build are exceptional. That being said, that model year was one of the ugliest Dodges ever built, except maybe for the later model K cars.
-
I am watching this build with amazement at your techniques and precision. I was not really sure what your vision was until you put some paint on it. WOW, that is an impressive change. Never been a great fan of the modern day Ferrari, so any change has to make them look better.

Rat Rod Rollback
TarheelRick replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Turning into a really cool looking rig. I like the paint scheme and all the little details you have added. Where did you get those wheels on the hot rod on the rollback? I need several of those. -
What did you see on the road today?
TarheelRick replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw this in my church parking lot yesterday morning. It has a 440 4 bbl and a 4 speed with a bench seat. He says it is white, but I say it has a grey tone to it. He also owns a Roush Mustang. -
Ace Auto GMC Plow Truck
TarheelRick replied to Scott Vinton's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Indeed a very nice looking work truck. Having spent a year at Shemya AFB in the Aleutians I think the only thing I see wrong is there is too much fender left. The majority of our trucks had quite a bit more fender rot, but then, we did get cast-offs from Elmendorf AFB, in Anchorage. Just kidding, this is a great build. -
Really nice build of an iconic racer. I think "Mr. 4-Speed" would approve.

Couple of excellent classics. Both look like they are ready to head to a concours-de-elegance somewhere. Beautiful work.

Today in western NC it was in the mid 60's, tomorrow they are calling for snow flurries, with a possible high of 39. I guess that is what you call "climate change".

Step notching a frame.
TarheelRick replied to Stephen82kck's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Several builders have done it in WIP's of their truck builds. I have never attempted it, but do hope to do so in the future. Maybe you could go through some of the older posts of custom trucks and see if you can find some better information. -
1977 GMC Custom Pickup
TarheelRick replied to BHarrison's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Got to agree with all the superlative comments above, this is one beautiful truck You said you have a K5 Blazer in the works. If you are going 2WD custom, might I suggest cutting the gravel pan back and narrowing the bumper to bring it in tighter to the body. Makes it look a bit smoother and leaner. That is just my opinion. -
Got one of those also, went the same way as yours. I guess as modelers we are always looking for that "just right" tool which is going to make model building so much easier. I seem to have a drawer full of things of that description.
-
That did come together quite well; the color fits it just right. Still think an injected SBC with the injectors sticking through the hood and a set of 10.5's on the rear would also fit it well.
-
Agree with Peteski, I bought one a few years back and not really impressed, but then again I may not know how to use it properly either. May have to dig it back out and give it another chance to show its worth. Flat32 do you have any tips or tricks that may help me with my experimenting?

Not sure if these would be classified as trucks or not. This Buick is set on a 1-ton truck chassis with diesel power, and the Willys wagon is on a scratchbuilt 2X4 steel tube frame with diesel power.
-
I continue to be amazed at your level of scratchbuilding. This machine and the roller are pieces of art. One question, and I know you are still in the building process, I noticed there does not appear to be any drag-links to the axles for steering or am I just not seeing them? Really looking forward to this beast getting some paint on it.

Would be cool to have one of these to add to my unbuilt collection of VW's. Hope the Revell kit will work as a donor; I have the Flower Power kit and it is a real dog for a body.

Cubic Cuda Pro-touring with Viper powertrain
TarheelRick replied to Claude Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Definitely a beast. Those side exhausts are a subtle change, but really add to the overall appearance. As far as the red stripes, what is the possibility of cutting them from the decal sheet, tracing around them on some tape, applying the tape to the side of the car and painting the stripe. That way you would have the hockey stick without the Hemi and you could use the same red you used around the grille to have a perfect match. -
The motto was "Slip and slide with Powerglide", in those days they were dogs. However they are widely used now in some of the comp dragster classes; and yes, they have been severely modified from the original. I think they are even being produced with aluminum cases As far as part box powerglides the Revell '56 Chevy DelRay and other variations of that particular kit came with a powerglide.

Here is one I am working on now. It is the AMT 61 Ford Starliner repop, using the 'extreme' stylized parts and a bubbletop from the Monogram 58 T-Bird. I wont be at NNL East, but thought I would share it with you. Right now it is in the box. I had to give it a swim in purple power, some of the filler came loose and I am still trying to decide on another color.
