Build this out of box, tried a new paint. Testor's Aztek acrylics. Colors are white pearl over copper pearl. This was my first time spraying pearl so it was a learning experience to say the least. Body spent some time in the purple pond...... Copper is a little brighter and has more pop than I can get in a photo.
This is very true. When I started the IH, I was planning on scratch building the dumpbody. Thank goodness there is so much available these days and that I've learned a lot over the years that makes the builds better. If I had finished the IH in the 80's it would need to be re-done now or just thrown in the trash.
Yep, not sure how "normal" it is, but you're not alone! Started this IH plow in the 80's, finished it last fall. Started 1/48 scale GulfCraft boat (all scratch) in 2004, not much more than the hull done.
Dave is top notch as are his products. If you do encounter a problem, he'll make it right. He always answers questions including those about part fit or locations if not crystal clear in the instructions. Some items have been OOS for a while, I think he spends more time casting than updating the site. If he said he'll have something in a day or two, I'd go by that over what shows on the site. Most of us here have numerous projects in the queue so a few weeks/months to get something isn't a big deal.
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to make all the kind comments! It was a fun build and fits in with my out of the ordinary tastes. BTW, I really loved their Apple Strudel and wish it was still available.
The decals were a challenge, I had several logos but only for modern trucks. I found an old Grumman brochure that show an appropriate era truck with the proper logo. The ad wasn't detailed enough to use, but a search of Ebay came up with a suitable option.
I took a macro lens on a 46 mp dslr and got a great file. I found a raster function in Photoshop that smoothed the edges and was able to print large enough to do the trick.
