Favorite/greatest body style ever?
89AKurt replied to Venom's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Such a subjective opinion driven by emotion and/or memories, steeped in personal tastes. Since I'm into sports cars, it's an obvious choice to pick the Ferrari 250 GTO. It was the end of an era when one could drive to the race track, race, and drive back home if you didn't crash or break. Datsun used the basic architecture for their popular 240Z. Pontiac stole the "GTO" nameplate. It had real wire wheels, when they were functional and sexy. The exhaust sound is like a mechanical orgasm. The other 250 models such as the Lusso could also qualify, but sticking with the GTO. One nut paid $70M at an auction, so ask him this question. ? I see someone picked the '68 - '72 Chevrolet Custom series pickup. I can afford one of those. ? -
Everyone wants to get back to normal! My little town in Arizona has some nice cars, the start of the season is off to a roaring start. I took many regular shots of whole cars, but I'm getting into detail artsy shots just to be different.

That's a trip! Never heard of the Bugsport. Nice job on it.

Thank you! Holy smokes, can't believe what these are selling for! Someone Just Spent $312,555 on a 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STI With 25K Miles

Whoops, that was the problem, car is 1:25, engine from the '39 Chevy sedan delivery is 1:24. Sometimes completely different scales can work, such as this 1:24 car and 1:48 tank. ?

Never seen a model of that before. Did a great job, noticed the fluid levels.

Thanks for taking the time to create this. I found out the hard way with a '67 427 Corvette, was given the car without an engine, had the 427 in the parts box forever, only when I found how tight it was did I research the scale of the engine, which as 1:25.

METRIC fiberglass asphalt shingles, in the USA? One reason I haven't posted in my WIP, been replacing super dooper worn shingles on my outbuildings. I cleaned out the Home Deephole to the east of me, then went to the other one to the west, and got what I thought was the same shingles. Today I opened the first bundle of the second batch, and discovered they weren't the same size! I was floored, then looked at the edge of the bundle and saw METRIC. I mean seriously? Wasted time going to those two HD, which didn't have what I needed, then went to the Lowes, which had "regular" size. Or so I thought...... when going to the pickup, saw METRIC on the top bundle, it was mixed in with the "regular" size, so back for the refund, and to see if there was one more and sure enough the rest were. The masking tape section looked like the TP aisle, apparently ships are sitting off shore waiting to be unloaded, so 3/4" masking tape is now scarce.

Fun part about models like this, do what you want without purists bagging on you.

I think there is another thread where pictures is the game, not as popular as my game. ? Your punishment is sending me a kit. ? in the trunk

DUH, I posted a comment on that thread. ? Must be why I hunted one down.

That was like shoving a wet noodle up a Bobcat's *** while in a phone booth! Came out great, considering the low quality of the kit. I *had to* get the Boomerang kit recently, just because, despite knowing it's also bad. I have a Russian forum bookmarked, a builder stopped posting about half way, so much needed to be fixed. Yours came out very nice, is there another topic of it?

Worth the try! Watch out for reflection off shiny paint, might have to put white paper over them to reduce any glare.

I like the subject, they were never exported to the US. Worth the trouble to save, looks great! I owned an '87 Civic Si.

Detail - What is enough?
89AKurt replied to prostreeter69's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
More of a philosophical question......... Here is what I think when planning a build: 1. Who am I building for? Myself of course, but will it be seen in person, or pictures online? 2. Why am I building this? If it's for a contest, I expect to spend hundreds of hours, is it worth it? Doing a Box Stock and sticking with it guarantees it will be completed. 3. Does the subject deserve the extra detail? Favorite subjects will get the attention, "normal" vehicles most likely won't. 4. Will the detail be seen? Lost track of how many things look great, then when the body is put on for the last time, I wonder why I did it. 5. Do I have awesome reference pictures? Or make up stuff (see my tag line)? The next question should be, what items in priority does anyone do? I sort of hate plug wires, especially with V12s. (List ignores race cars) A. Plug wires. Add coil, spark plug boots, loom harness, etc. B. Radiator hoses. Add p-e clamps. C. Heater hoses. D. Fuel pump and line. Add line to tank, filter. E. Carb. Aftermarket unit, springs, different air cleaner. F. Battery. Aftermarket unit, wires, clamp, label. G. Brake master cylinder. Is it included? For example, pickups have different sizes per rating. Add lines. H. Windshield washer tank or bag. Add clear line, pump, etc. I. Steering (front engine). Many kits don't have the steering shaft or box. J. Labels. Lucky if the kit has decals, I've reduced pictures and printed on paper. K. Is there a dry sump tank? Add oil hoses. L. Oil cooler? M. Horn(s)? N. Use an aftermarket, or another kit engine? O. Pulleys and belt. P. Coolant overflow tank. Q. Realistic hood hinges. R. Hood prop rod needed? S. Once one billet aluminum part is added, it can snowball. T. Once one photo-etch part is added....... you get the idea! On this project I went overboard. The only contest it was entered in, did not get an award. There are other guys who build incredible Factory Stock models, so I'm not surprised. That's why I don't build street rods, hot rods, muscle cars, because so many do and produce really nice work. Even with some extra trunk detail, I didn't have a chance. That's my two cents worth.
