  1. I know Revell made *some* nice kits. You probably have more kits than you dare, admit it. ? I have the Italeri in Testors box Rodaster, red plastic. Also have the AMT 300SL, which looks really detailed, and has the Rudge wheels for an option. Been thinking of starting a new topic, similar to the Porsche Outlaws & Hot Rods, wonder if there is a term for Mercedes sacrilege? Don't know when I will actually build this, was hoping someone will be inspired to beat me to it.
  2. That looks awesome! I have two projects that will require winch detailing, will use you as inspiration. I drilled a bunch of holes.
  3. mustache contest figures
  4. Way too big, and mid engine transmission. 300 SLR has a unique grill shape, covered headlights, hood with intake bulge on the right side, no rear fender lip, etc. The exhausts coming out the side are what made you think this.
  5. Hats off for doing all the carbon-fiber decal work! Looks awesome.
  6. Tempted to get one of these kits, but have resisted. Will live vicariously through you, looking great so far!
  7. It looks like a butcher job to me so far. ? I've done some very simple airplane resin models, and did two conversions, the Chevy Canopy Express and Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar. I tend to make mountains out of mole hills. Thank you. You certainly inspired me! I blame you for this, so thank you too! ? It's been in hibernation, thank you for the comment. Was that the one found in Russia? The book I read was fascinating, many innovations were developed.
  8. WELCOME! If you think this is like the AA version of the model world, you will be disappointed. ? Look forward to what you're doing for 3D printed parts, it's a niche that is growing in popularity.
  9. Revell's Mercedes Benz 190 SL, silly to add "Roadster" because the SL was always a roadster. ? I've had a wild hair to get one, found a decent priced re-issue on feeBay, so *had to* get it. Price was good because tires are missing, but I have plans for it. Searched, did not find that anyone had built it, prove me wrong. Picture on Scalemates: I know this is based on the 300 SL, but sort of what I'm thinking of. I see the Fujimi 1/24 Mercedes Benz SLK 230 Sports Version Model Kit 12524 is a modern version, and Tamiya made one, but both lack an engine, correct? An alternative would be a Skyline aftermarket engine. Just throwing ideas out seeing what will catch inspiration. I'll post pictures of the kit when the time comes. ,
  10. Admire the perseverance and progress. My experience with roof flashing, it breaks when bent, so the anneal process reduces that?
  11. Can't believe it was July when I stalled. This is one of my 2020 Resolution projects, so have only one month left to finish. Spent all afternoon on getting reacquainted, and jumping a couple of hurdles that stopped progress. First up, prepared two parts that are missing from the instructions, found a good reference picture to know where to place. Got two of the same trailing arm parts, sawed off the arm, slightly different angle sanded on the end, and hope is in the correct position. The front suspension arms needed major cleanup. The gearbox was not included, the original kit design would have hidden it, so why bother? Since I opened the louvers, it can sort of be seen, so I sort of mimicked the shape. Cut a Chevy Stovebolt valve cover in half, turned a basic shape for the starter end, and repurposed ..... let's see if anyone can guess what the white parts were. Used the Dremel to hollow the body at the tail end, and the fuel tank void. Can barely see from this angle. There is a plate that should go in there, which keeps the carb intake separate. There was a steering wheel shaft molded in, amazed how it could be cast, but it was rough. Now there is a wire. Cleaned up the steering wheel. Worked on the radiator fit in the body, fuel tank fit so the filler cap sticks up enough, coolant pipe, seat fit in the cockpit. Every part needs cleanup and test fitting, which is tedious, but I'm also trying to add detail that will distract. ? I'm apprehensive about how to paint, since it's much like building an airplane. I will have to paint the inside of the body, the engine and cockpit, then assemble. Don't think I can paint the outside of the body and expect no screwups during construction, so may have to shoot a final coat of silver after it's assembled. When I was looking at pictures today, noticed there are some rivets that should be added.
  12. You haven't missed much! ? Appreciate it! Yea, no more than me. It's going to be fake it until I make it.
  13. Looking really good! You have the screws so it can be assembled, then taken apart for painting?
  14. I haven't had cable since 2008, ditched the TV. Don't miss being a couch potato, sitting like a zombie. Now I'm a couch potato giving my unasked for opinion. A few years ago, wife had business stuff in Phoenix, we had a nice motel room. I binged on this show for a day, they had a marathon. I hated all the ads, for starters. I hated all the replaying the stupid drama before the ads, because I guess people forget? The drama made guys look like grade school playground bullies. Then they had to replay previous episodes highlights, much like sports, which I don't watch either. Makes sense to waste so much time, to milk out a 10 second drag race between the "stars". The only reason I picked this, was because of Farm Truck. I just despise the "reality" TV format, like watching a mountain climber in a blizzard, all alone, the cameraman is the real stud having to keep the camera working! Anyway, I can live up to this resolution, to never watch those shows again. Jay Leno and High Gear are my preferred addiction.
  15. That is hugely impressive!
  16. Welcome to the forum! I need to look at a map to remember where Budapest is. ☺️
  17. First 3D printed engine (Iceman Collectibles) I have tried.
  18. Looks like a natural factory edition. Nice looking, sometimes I wonder why I care about the engine.
  19. Fresh turkey from a local farm, and some other stuff. I baked Pumpkin pie, using a family recipe. Wife and I had my 89 year old mom with us.
  20. over militant pedestrians
  21. Stole about an hour from Turkey Day, to work on the Iceman Collections engine. I had washed it really well, and set on the window sill to allow the sun's UV rays to help cure it, seemed to be soft before. Used the sanding stick to "mill" the mating surfaces. Applied just two little drops of superglue for each piece, so it could be disassembled, which was required a few times. No instructions, only had the pictures from the eBay listing. Not sure if the heads are correct, Common Sense says top is always the top, rotate 180 degrees for the other side. Figured the supercharger had to go on first, then noticed a larger lip on the head needed to go on the bottom, so the top parts fit tightly. There are no locating pins, so eyeballing three sides when gluing on is the trick. The pulley assembly is two parts, lined up the crank pulley first, the rest fit together well. First time in the car, what am I doing?!? I thought about the headers getting switched, but would hit the pulleys, so have to stick with "normal", but I may make new headers that meet in the middle and aim level to the sides, not straight down. Quick Dremel grinding of the firewall, looks like more will be required. I should look at how Ken Block's Hoonicorn Mustang got the driveshaft and differential done, this is a similar situation. The right wheel well should be moved in to match the gear side. Might have to dream up a lever action shock setup.
