NASCAR 80's Coil position
Steamboat replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have a picture of Earnhardt's 77 Olds showing the top part of the coil protruding from the firewall. I have several pictures of mid 80's Fords showing the coil mounted on the engine. Of course the distributor is at the front of the engine so they kept the coil wire short. Maybe it wasn't mandated by the rule book. -
*Making Headlights Look Better*
Steamboat replied to Zippi's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Here's a trick I use. I picked up these sequins at HL. They are a little over 1/4" in diameter. I glue the head of a pin (preferably a spherical one) into the center hole, and mount the assembly in place of the kit's reflector. Here's a picture of a finished model. I'm working on another that needs better headlights right now, I'll let you know how it comes out. -
1968 Roadrunner chassis paint

The k-frame should be semi gloss black. The frame rails are part of the unibody and are body color. -
Very nice ! Looks like you could jump in and drive it!

Wow, that came out great! I've been following the WIP. Nice job!

I use a 1 oz. medicine cup with about 2 drops of water. I guess a "pinch" of chalk would be the right amount. The chalk settles to the bottom so you need to tilt the cup a little to get some on your brush. Play around with it a little and you'll find the right amount. The neat thing is you can let the water dry out and store the cup with the chalk after use. I've got a stack of them with different colors. I just add a drop or two of water and I'm back in business. For lighter colored models, you can make it a bit more gray and add a little colored chalk that is close to the body color.

I like to use a wash consisting of ground up black chalk, water and a drop of dish soap. It flows nicely into the panel lines and the excess can be wiped away when dry. I also use it for grilles, it works beautifully. On this model, it was used for the door gaps, and a mix of red, black and yellow was used for the rust around the lug nuts.

Nicely done! Super clean build. -
Absolutely superb. You would think that the photos are of a 1:1 car.

Nice! The engine compartment weathering is spot on.

Has the 62 Cadillac convertible ever been released in kit or resin? I just watched the movie "My Cousin Vinny " for the fortieth time and was thinking what a great model the Caddy would make. Actually the Skylark convertible would be awesome too.

Nice paint and foil. Well done!

This is a replica of an E100 that I owned in the early 90's. It was nicknamed "the bane", because one of my good friends in NYC had problems pronouncing the V in van. I gradually replaced the doors with junkyard parts as the originals rusted out. It had a 300 straight six and went over 300,000 miles. It was a road trip machine! I'm working on 3d printing some Ford dog-dish hubcaps to make it more true to the1:1.

Awesome build! You knocked it out of the park. Great job with the scratch building.

Nicely done! I like the panel lines on the inside door panels. I never thought of doing that.

Is the kit molded in black or is it white? I've built both over the years. You takes your choice whether the body or the chassis will be easier to paint! -

Monogram made the C4 Vette convertible in 1:24. The engine is a 350 TPI I believe.
