Shaker cans leaking.
NOBLNG replied to James Maynard's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have one that is leaking from the bottom seal. I haven’t tried to use it yet, but if there is still liquid in it but no pressure, I will try decanting it and airbrushing it. -
St John Jeep

Looks like a fun project Tom! I’m watching. When I went to Cuba, I was amazed at how cobbled together some of the vehicles were. There were Chevys with Toyota engines in them??? Whatever it took to make it mobile was all good!? -

I made a new floor pan and firewall since the diecast didn’t really have them. This will also give me a base to add some cab mounts to. -

I wasn’t happy with the rear window groove I made, so filled it in with Milliput and made a new flange to fit inside the opening. The groove was ragged, and the window was starting to look a little larger than it should be. I then made a new window “gasket” from .040 half round I did the same with the windshield, after glueing a lip of styrene inside the opening. It looks much better I think than the “Buddy Holly” look I had with the prototype. -
Beautifully done. I had a ‘69 Beaumont that was about that color. I agree, this is the nicest body style of the Chevelle/Beaumonts.?

Nice job on this one. It really is a nice kit, except for some minor fitment issues...like those tail lights (I remember shimming and re-shaping them) and the hood ornament. The separate roof is the biggest hurdle to making this one look good I think.

Very realistic! Just like most company vehicles...nobody cleans the interior unless they’re TOLD to do it. -

Nice! Very realistic job on the weathering.? -
That chop looks like just the right amount to me.

Michael, you will find folks on here very helpful, but some more details would be nice. Like what kit you’re working on, what direction you’re moving the engine... how far, etc. Pictures are very helpful also. This may get a better response in the Q&A or Big Rig section too.

Looking good. Nothing like scratch building to while away the hours. -
What’s your address...I’ll be right over.?

I made a windshield “gasket” out of some thin styrene to get an Idea of how it will look. I want to file a small recess all around the opening to set the gasket into, but I’m afraid I may destroy it. I tried doing one on the rear window with my dremel and it wasn’t easy...especially where it transitions from die-cast to Milliput. I am going to try to cast this first and then maybe experiment on the casting. -

I think this pickup cab was derived from a wagon which would maybe account for the lower roof profile? So I was all set to start sketching out new profiles for the roof mods when I had a revelation. Why not take photos of my actual truck and resize them. Once the photos spanned the drip rails of the diecast nicely, I made templates out of them. I then slathered on the miliput . I couldn’t get the cowl shape quite right since it should start sloping up to the windshield sooner whereas the die-cast has that area pretty flat. so I wound up filing the vent lid off and making a new one from .030 styrene. I also re-shaped the front edge of the fenders and rounded the sides a little. And I added the ribs on the back of the cab. I also filed off the trim on the lower edge of the hood and side of the cab. -

Good work Tom! Those both turned out beautifully. All the little details are spot on. I like the hood hinges and busted fender flares on the CJ. -

Thanks Chris. Yes Scenes Unlimited makes some nice stuff. Thanks Paul. Not sure about the “Clifford Read” thing, but the gas tank and the radiator are actually from a Revell ‘57 Chevy lowrider kit, molded in hot pink.? Thanks Aaron. I would seriously consider buying one...test drive required for sure.? -
I agree, very nice!! I think you’ve got the wrong cat for a username.?

Thanks Pete and Rob. I will put a coat of primer on it all and sand it as smooth as I can get it. -

That’s called growth and it can be lots of fun in this hobby. And this one looks like fun to watch too.?
