  1. Realy like that job on the Edsel David , looks like a pearl white. You use what I call high end paint and I'm sure a lot more guys' do also. I'm just a cheapskate acrylic paint user. Most expensive I use is the Createx. I just wonder really how much of a difference it makes with inexpensive (note I didn't say cheap?) versus pricy stuff. Me, I think it just comes down to the process.
  2. Those Hurst shifter's are a tedious process to make Seth, but look nice. I really love the profile of the '65 Comet Cyclone.
  3. Cool, yep, as someone said (there's a book written with that title) "all Corvette's are red"!!
  4. I'm finishing up this one right now James. It's actually finished except I had to repaint the flipper. Pretty easy build. Made mine as more of a streetable gasser, wide rear wheels and treaded tires. I also cut off the grill from the "hood" trim. If you haven't, test fit the tilt hood to the body, not a great fit there. Good luck.
  5. Thank you neighbor. Gotta get the darn red stripe all the way around the body now.
  6. Thank you Trevor, I'm pretty darn happy with the result.
  7. Oh its nice and level Tony. Just a few spots with tiny trash or bubble spots. No polishing on the acrylic color coat.
  8. My intention when I started this thread was (and is) to get more entertainment value out of it than anything else and so far it hasn't failed. A mention about my current paint job (as described in my current WIP Turbo Coupe). Createx Autoborne black sealer, Createx Airbrush Opaque black topcoat. First time I used the Autoborne and I was very impressed. It covered quickly and super smooth with just a few coats. The topcoat went on just as smooth as the sealer. I have been using the Rusto Crystal Clear over Createx and even after drying time of the topcoat in excess of a few days the paint checked. So, no way was I gonna gamble with the same results and since the only other clear product I have on hand is a bottle of the original Future (not the new Pledge stuff). It's been a really long time since I last used this stuff. I sprayed a couple light coats then started laying it on a bit. Between heavier coats after a few minutes of drying time I hit it with the hair dryer on medium speed, cool temp. The shine is awesome, but like "Peteski" mentioned, it does kinda looks like it's been "dripped in honey" which of course, a factory paint job would not look like. My take on this is, different paints have different requirements and the process if more of an individual choice than anything else. I guess you can say, it's whatever works for you!! And if anyone can give me some advise in finishing off the Future please chime in.
  9. Thanks Ray. It does have a nice gloss. First use of the Future in a very long time.
  10. Oh yeah Gunner, very nice pair. Big Pontiacs as are all Pontiacs are a favorite of mine for sure!!?
  11. Try Rustoleum or Krylon (that I prefer) as a primer. I don't think they would be a problem with the plastic. Some others on here can chime in on which of those brands work well. I'm pretty sure both have a line that say's on the can for plastic.
  12. I think when I paint a model, clearing also, I tend to go overboard with the coats. So guy's, how much is enough? I seem to always think that next coat will be a little better than the last and often wind up messing it up or getting trash or bubbles in it. So, really, how much is enough.....when do you draw the proverbial line??? ?
  13. Got the original Future on the body. Definately shiny and no orange peel but will need to be polished. Anyone know how long I should wait until I do the polishing compound and polish???
  14. As you read on the Turbo coupe WIP thats also moulded in red, the acrylic Stynyrez primer did just fine over the red, as did the Createx Autoborne sealer (also acrylic). I guess you don't use Acrylics??
  15. How did you do the red stripe around the whole car TJ? I have 1/8 inch vinyl tape thats just a bit too wide for my likeing. I think I can cut it thinner to work tho.
  16. Hi TJ. I was going thru Thunderbird threads (I have a WIP Turbo Coupe) and noticed you had a great start on a Super Coupe. Any more progress??
  17. Thanks my Tennessee neighbor. Yep, it was definately an enjoyable car.
  18. Thanks David and yes, it is what mine was. It was a really cool, fun and comphy drive especially with the 5-speed. Also you could vary the ride firmness. Really an great little car.
  19. Thanks Claude and Steve. I probably should think about it...just wonder how compatible it is with Createx.
  20. Well thanks Chaz...it's nothing special but should come out pretty nice.
  21. Thanks a lot my Friend!!
  22. I have had very many cars over the years and tend to build replica's of them. Santa gave me this kit this past Christmas and now I am in the process of working on it. I seldom do WIP's because I find taking pics, editing and resizing them (which I'm also a WIP?) and posting them on the forum to be too laborious. I'm calling this an abbreviated WIP. I have become a fan of Stynylrez primer/Createx top coat/Rust Crystal Clear Acrylic fan....well sort of. The primer coats and black topcoat went on pretty much OK. After a few days I sprayed the Rusto clear and it almost immediately checked badly. No clue why because it's not the first time I have used this process. So, into the Purple Pond it went (first time I have ever done it). I was expecting better and faster results but after 4 days I finally managed to get all the paint off. I decided to get a bottle of Createx AutoBorne black sealer/primer at HL (clearance for some reason. $6.49 reduced to $1.64). Wow, what a smooth finish...way better than I ever got with The Stynylrez. The pics you will see of the body are after top coating with the Createx opaque air brush colors paint. The finish is pretty darn smooth and with clearing should come out slick. My issue now is what clear to use because I sure don't want to have a replay of the issue I had. The miniscule 4 cyl Turbocharged engine is really well detailed in this kit. The interior. The pics show it a bit orangy but it really is red The chassis/undercarriage Well thats it for now. I have an original bottle of Future I may use to clear the body tomorrow. Thanks for looking!!!!
  23. Well I'm thinking I too need to chime in. Been on the Forum since June 2020. I also re-started my modelling from my way much younger days (I just turned 75) after retirement....the first post-retirement model I built was a '68 'Vette in June of 2016 and have had something on the "bench" ever since. With all that boring stuff being said, my first order of the day is feed the "pup"s, sit down in my recliner with my coffee and open up modelcarsmag.com to look at and read all the interesting stuff that has been posted. Oops, there I go getting boring again? Anyway, I have and continue to enjoy the content and interactions with other forum members and have sure learned a lot on here. Model on guys, and have a great day!!!!!!!
  24. Wow Sean, you are a lucky guy, never anything that cool at my hick-town Ollies. Do it up right!!?
  25. So Anthony, which picture is the black chrome because if its the top one it just looks black, really hard to tell if it has the chrome look.
