Hi all, Not exactly sure where to start here… I hope that you will take a minute to read this before you go further. It has been just over 2 years since we lost our friend Plowboy (Roger Hayes). Anyone that knows me here would know that I REALLY liked Roger’s builds. Apart from his amazing sense of style, I liked his diverse interest. His builds were always well thought out, cleanly built, and his colour choices were often understated and unique. If you are not familiar with Roger’s work, I would encourage you to check out some of his threads on the forum. His WIP threads always had something useful to add to your, “I gotta try that” arsenal. Man he was knowledgeable, and good… I learned a ton from him, and he made me a much better builder. I have had a tribute build in my mind for 2 years now. Actually, 3 builds, but I will start with this one. My plan here is to build a tribute, but more importantly, showcase some of Roger’s work. I will be showing a bunch of his work on this thread. I also encourage anyone who wants to share photos of their favourite builds, or tips from Roger, or links to one of his threads, to please do so. This build is about Roger!! We often talk here about not “hijacking” someone’s thread, but for this one I’m encouraging it!! I sat down at my desk Wednesday night (Jan 15th) to come up with a plan. About an hour and a half later, I had a fairly good idea of exactly how to proceed. Colours were an obvious no brainer too. I then sat down with my IPad and went back over some of Roger’s builds, realizing that I had missed some of his earlier posts. (I joined the forum about a year after Roger) As I read thru one of his 60 Ford builds I began smiling, many of the things I planned to do just minutes ago, he had done! I will share more of that as the build progresses. So… my plan: 1960 Ford shop truck. Here’s the starting point… As always, thanks for having a look, and all comments welcome. I will have some progress soon. Cheers, Steve

Deuce Days in Scale - Victoria BC Canada Sunday July 20, 2025
Steve H replied to Phildaupho's topic in Contests and Shows
Come on back David! Bring some models with you. Our inner harbour is pretty spectacular. So you can imagine that whole area around the harbour filled with about 1,000 hot rods from all over North America and beyond…. -
Very crisp! I like that colour on it a lot. Excellent paint, and as Bob mentioned, the foil work is nicely done too.
-
Really nice clean build Scott.

Thanks Samuel. Much appreciated Larry! Hmmmm. I have you crossed up with someone… Well, you definitely will not see at NNL east, at least not this year.😉 Hi Greg, I appreciate the honest reply. I knew when I started that it would not be a build that would have “universal” appeal. Thanks for checking in, and taking the time to comment. Thank you Nicholas. This forum is the only social media I do. Thanks for the kind words. Hi Steve. Thanks for being patient and checking it out in completed form. Learned a bit here that should make the next one a pinch better.😉 Thanks Roger. Hi Bob. I wanted a colour with some “pop”, metallic orange seemed about right. Thanks for having a look sir. I could see you building something like this. Cab of a ‘50 Ford truck, big “Iceman” motor out back….

Thank you Rich! I appreciate that. There’s a few more photos in the under glass section if you’re interested. -
Lots of fantastic scratch building Dennis! Nicely done.

Hi Michael thanks for your reply. I am not tech savvy at all, so can’t offer any insight. I have just tried again to post a new thread and can’t do it. Now super frustrated… To be clear, not frustrated with you folks, I appreciate everything you do to keep this board running. This is what I keep getting 👇 I tried on Friday, Saturday, and again just now. I’m using the same device, and am fairly certain it isn’t something I’m doing wrong. I hope it gets sorted out soon. Thanks again for all you folks do. Cheers, Steve

Nice paint job Dan! Looks great in the sun, interior looks nice too.

Hi Michael, I just tried again to create a post in the truck section with no luck. This is the first time I’ve had any issues with a post. No issues whatsoever last week with creating a topic. Also able to respond to topics, just can’t seem to start this new thread. Frustrating for sure. Any thoughts or suggestions? I haven’t hanged anything on my end. Thanks in advance.

Hi Nigel, thanks for taking the time to comment. Thanks David. It is something a bit different, and was an enjoyable build. I appreciate you following the WIP. I didn’t change TOO much of the chassis, so theoretically at least, it should be somewhat representative of a real machine. That works! Thanks David. Thank you Mario! Good to have you back on the forum. Hope all is well with you.

Thanks for posting this Phil. You know I’ll be there sir. It would be awesome to see of the forum members here attend. There has certainly been enough dueces built!! The outside car show is absolutely world class, and the scale show is a fantastic bonus. Weather is usually perfect too. Hope to see some “mainlanders” and hopefully some of our friends from south of the border will come with their styrene hot rods. It is a truly spectacular event for any car enthusiast. -
I had the same problem last night. Tried to start a topic in the truck section, but no go. Frustrating, as I had spent a fair bit of time composing the subject. Of course, I’m a slow typer so there’s that….
-
Thanks Sonny. Took advantage of some sunny weather. I actually want to get some in filtered sun too. I’ll do that eventually. Thank you Cris! Hey Spike! Thanks, and I appreciated your support in the WIP thread. Hi Phil. Yes, this would be really fun on a slalom course! Should have the next build thread up tomorrow. Heading over to the truck section… Thanks Terry!

Heather, I would be honoured if you follow along on the tribute build. As you have seen, your dad was highly respected here. We all miss him. He made me a much better builder. I should have a thread up by the weekend, but you have to patient, I’m slow…😅 -

It’s always fascinating to check in with your progress Francis. A completely different planet than the one I build models on… Extraordinary stuff. Thanks for sharing. -
Hi Brian. Yay! It was sunny for a couple hours! Man it’s been grey … I did a WIP thread on the parking lot a couple of years ago. It was a fun project which combined my career in road building, with two of my favourite hobbies, modeling and landscaping. If there was a mountain bike in there… hmmmmm🤔. We could put some fake snow on it for when your plow truck is done!! Thanks for the kind words. Hi John! Thanks for following along on the journey, I appreciated having your input. Hi EMRE. It’s fun building something that doesn’t necessarily have to fit any “template”. There is some latitude with how how it comes together. I am hoping to see more of this type of build on here. I will be good for 2 more eventually. Thanks Bill. You’re in Vancouver right? Hope to have this over there for the show in the spring. Thanks Scott! Ah ha! There’s the trouble maker!😜 Russell, this is all your fault. Seriously though, thank you for sharing the link wayyyyyyyyy back when I was building the Caddy. I have more saved screen shots for inspiration than I know what to do with. Just one of the many things I like about being on this forum.

Thanks Dave. I am quite proud of this one. I pushed myself a bit and it turned out about how I imagined. One of my better efforts. Thank you Hector. Hi Robert. Thank you for following along on the build thread. You must be a patient man!😂 Thank you Carl, always a treat to hear from you. Thank you, much appreciated. Sorry for the late replies here. I truly appreciate all the comments. Cheers, Steve

Hi Phil !! Sorry, it has taken me a bit to catch up here. You were VERY productive indeed. Great builds as always sir. I can tell Duece Days is coming! Talk soon
-
You were a busy guy! Great builds Bob, and surprise… lots of fat fenders and big ol meats! Love it.
-
Excellent looking build Greg. Great colour combo, and it sits just right 👌(hope fully “ 👌” doesn’t turn into a question mark!😂) I like those factory wheels, good choice to leave them on. Underhood details look good too.

Very nice, diverse group of builds. Love the Nova!
