Looks good. Like your scratch built headers, how did you do the collectors? They look realistic. -
1959 Chevy Impala----Just a tease! 4/9/16

Hi Bill,Thanks for posting your video on soldering, I'm getting ready to take a stab at doing some scratch building involving brass. I've done larger types of soldering (stained glass), what wattage soldering iron do you use? Also what type/mixture of solder. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -

Fantastic work so far Bill, I will definitely be watching your build. I was really impressed with your 58 and it's working windows. I like using Krylon, I've had good luck with that brand of paint. I like that its not too thick and gives excellent coverage. I've never had a problem with it being too thin. Really for the price (I buy mine at Wallyworld) it is one of the cheapest and best spray paints out there.

Paasche Single Action - Which Tip?
58 Impala replied to Ken McGuire's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That is a great airbrush, I liked mine so well I went and bought another one strictly for clearcoating. You've pretty much answered your own question. I use the number 5 tip for painting larger areas like painting bodies, you have a wider pattern for more even overlap and coverage. I use the smaller tips for smaller areas where you need better control. -
High End Model kit advice
58 Impala replied to hyrvine's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw the Enzo kit at the IPMS convention. Beautiful kit, just can't afford the $600 For it. I'm sure the Porsche kit will be priced the same. -
Spent 10 yrs in the AF as a aircraft corrosion/painter and just recently got laid off after 27 yrs working for an AF contractor as a paint/bodyman. Breathed more than enough paint fumes in my life, I'm looking to do something else. The only paint fumes I want to be around now involve painting plastic.

$425,000,000! What would you do?
58 Impala replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would help my family and a few close friends, donate a bunch to charity and then do everything in my power to minimize the amount of money the rotten greedy useless government could get their hands on. Screw redistribution on their terms. -
1960-61 Falcon semi-pro touring restoration
58 Impala replied to RancheroSteve's topic in Model Cars
Very cool, don't think I'd have had the patience to save a glue bomb that far gone. Nice job. -
My dad started my brother and I building models, they were 1/16 Aurora kits for display in our room. Then we moved on to all the Tom Daniels kits. I used to go to Rexall drugstore, they always had a good model selection. $1.50-$2.50 for a model and 10 cents for Testors paint and glue. If I had $5 in my pocket I could buy a bunch of stuff that would keep me busy building for hours.

They're out there, my local Hobbytown had a couple on the shelf. $26.95 is a bit steep, I'll wait till HobbyLobby gets them and use my 40% off coupon.

Tiny new Ford engine coming soon...
58 Impala replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's amazing the power you can get out of a small engine, look at F1 they have 2.5 liter V8's 800hp no turbo. Of course they do twist them up to around 18-20,000 rpm. -
What cat?

All types of paints separate, I bought one of those battery powered stirrers from MicroMark and it works great.

Looking for a Hemi manifold.
58 Impala replied to 58 Impala's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks Roger, I have an extra 50 Ford kit, I forgot about the Ardun motor. If the manifold doesn't fit the Hemi, maybe I'll just put the Ardun in my project. -
I'm gathering parts for a project. I want to use a Hemi in a street rod but I need a 3-2 bbl manifold. Does anyone know where I can find one that might work? Any help would be appreciated.

Looking forward to following this build. Those bomber seats are great, might have to get some. I've seen that straight 8 in RoM's catalog and thought about how that might look in a street rod. I guess we're fixing to find out.

What would mean more to you
58 Impala replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with George, I value a compliment from one of my friends in the club I belong to more that any award. -
Is this kit really a new tooling or a die cast repop? I've been looking forward to it coming out, but now I'm having second thoughts about buying one. I'm a collector of Corvette kits, but for $26 I don't know. Maybe I'll wait for Hobby Lobby to carry them then I can use a 40% off coupon, that way I won't feel bad if the model isn't up to past Revell kits.

Looking foward to watching your build. That is a sweet looking custom. That's going to be a tough chop job.

Revell '50 Oldsmobile Club Coupe 2'n1
58 Impala replied to styromaniac's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Not too concerned about the tires not being Tampo printed, they never seem to be centered correctly. It's better to paint the whitewalls yourself. -
Beautiful job, nice color. I just picked up my kit yesterday. Looking forward to building it.

Just got mine tonight at my local Hobby Lobby with my 40% coupon.......$16.50 including tax. Nice kit, think I'll do a mild custom. Just have to think of a neat color. -
I know it's off topic, but that jump from the edge of space was wild. His official max speed from 128,000 ft was 834 mph! Only man to break the sound barrier without a plane. Chuck Yeager didn't even go that fast in the X1.
