So back at the time Testors was doing these Boyds kits, they were releasing 2 different versions of each subject (except the Smoothster). So that's why there is confusion about the level of detail. They released 2 versions of the AlumaCoupe and Chezoom. I can't find evidence of the snap version of Boyds Hauler being released back in the early 90's, but it did eventually make it to market as the yellow truck. Take note of the descriptions on the box. Red is full detail, yellow is snap with no engine detail.

Great episode, over an hour long, on the history of the NNL. -
Dan, your conversion work is very nice. I did the same myself for a resin master a few years ago and gave it to a new caster, but I gave up waiting on that one, so I took the opportunity to master an even better one. It's ready to go, hope to have it in a different (and more reputable) casters hands very soon. But i will definitely be following along with yours because I just LOVE 32 Fords!

It's not a 29 cowl. It's the forward portion from a Revell 32 Ford roadster mated to the back end of an AMT 32 ford phaeton. The AMT 32 Fords (roadster, 5 window, Vicky and Phaeton) all suffer from an inaccurate upsweep at the bottom of the body from the rear door line forward to the cowl. The Revell bodies have the correct contour, so a few enterprising builders have done exactly what Dan is doing to get a more accurate 32 phaeton.

The Model Car Muse video series popped up on my radar again with the just released History Of the NNL video. I'm going to revive this thread to share direct links to the Model Car Muse videos. I hadn't visited their channel in awhile and didn't realize how many new videos there are. Do yourself a favor and check them out. -
Grill design requests
Mr. Metallic replied to Texas_3D_Customs's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
All I'm saying is that the market for someone to sell this is now smaller than it was when Olsen Bros released their 1/2 top years ago. Now that Revell offers that piece in their own kit there are fewer buys that would want one by itself from an aftermarket supplier. Just because you want one doesn't mean that it's worth their time, effort and materials to produce one when the kit is readily available. -
Very clean build, as always from your bench. I'm like you, I don't have much use for this quirky car on my shelf, so i really hope (like others) that they offer these tires in a parts pack.

Not sure how much demand there would be for the half cab since Revell now offers it in the kit -
Why not use the Extreme Lacquer (formerly OneCoat) clear? Then you don't have to worry about compatibility issues? It's a pretty nice clear. I have used Tamiya lacquers and Testors interchangeably with their respective clearcoats for years, so if you want to try Tamiya clear you should be able to, and the spray nozzle on those is so much nicer. Of course, do a test before blasting it all over your newly painted body.

Reissued kits
Mr. Metallic replied to slantasaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Check out the reviews section. Round2 is resurrecting the whole series of AMT/MPC kits of this body style. Not reissuing so much as new tooling. They have more body styles planned but there are a couple that are supposed to be out this year. -
@Ace-Garageguy have you gotten one of these yet? I have some of their other products and they're pretty great. But since you've done the workup on dimensions and everything I'm looking forward to your thoughts on if this is now the definitive best 427 Cammer available? https://tx3dcustoms.com/products/ford-427-sohc-hilborn-injected

I just got caught up on this and just wanted to say I love the side pipes. I was going to suggest that you shorten them just a couple scale inches. You're using the iconic 32 Ford frame rails, but the rear of the pipes hides the character line of the frame. Now that you've already painted them I guess they'll stay that way, which they still look great. -
I finally tracked down a copy of the MPC (apparently Airfix) 1/25 P-51. I'm excited to build it...someday. I like the idea that it's the same scale as all my 1/25 hot rods, so it will make a great display, someday.

resin vs chopping top
Mr. Metallic replied to redzed's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Wish I had seen this sooner and been able to recommend the far superior chopped 3 window from Drag City Casting. Jimmy Flintstone's stuff is fine, but it is mass produced and there isn't always a lot of care taken with the overall quality. I only buy them in person so I can see exactly what I'm getting. Drag City Casting is one of the best out there, and this particular body was mastered by hot rod maestro Dennis Lacy (a member here). Hopefully the body you get from JF is a good one. I will recommend cleaning it thoroughly with a degreaser (don't soak, just wipe down) because the mold release he uses is very strong. After that wash with soap and water and then as a final step wipe it down with rubbing alcohol. -
How to: Magnetic Alignment Board
Mr. Metallic replied to Joe Nunes's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thank you for this quick and helpful tutorial. -
There have been quite a few builders here mentioning their "duvall" frames have varying degrees of warpage. I experienced this one one of the two kits I've purchased. Is this what you're talking about @Bearcat ? If so, reach out to Revell customer service for a replacement. I made mine work by drilling and pinning it to the cowl, but that operation is tricky on a fragile part, and depending on the amount of warpage may not fix the problem.

Very nicely done. Great stance, and the wheel covers are the cherry on top. I especially dig the Lincoln bumpers

AMT-Ertl 1956 T-Bird Street Freak/From the Vault #7
Mr. Metallic replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
Another stunner time. The paint job is eye catching. I have a similar build based on the AMT 56 planned, minus the kit y-block of course. As a side note, I think the OneCoat paints survived the culling by Rustoleum. I still find them on store shelves including Hobby Lobby. They even released a new color I had never seen (turquoise). I just can't believe it's old stock that hasn't been exhausted in the 2 years since Rustoleum turned off the Model Master spigot.
