AMT 1960 3-in-1 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck
Mr. Metallic replied to rekcirb13's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I have to disagree, or we are just interpreting his deliberately vague statement differently. He didn’t confirm what kit 1407 was, just that there is a kit 1407. I’ve learned not to believe these things until they are officially announced. Which just happened! -
Nothing ratty about that sweet little hot rod. Any updates?

Is tomorrow the day we learn if this kit is officially coming back? I know I'll be checking in here and Spotlight throughout the day for DAAM show coverage -
Looking good Steve, that yellow just POPS! And great idea on severing the cowl from the body. I had that same thought too when I get around to building one of these. Curious what method you used to separate them without losing much material?

Review of Revell's new chrome spray paint
Mr. Metallic replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Patiently waiting for my LHS to get some of this. Looks like the dam may be breaking and the stuff is finally becoming available in the US. Based on the video it looks very promising. The ease of Molotow, but very possibly more durable. Can't wait to spray some and then stick it in the dehydrator to bake it on. That should give the ultimate durable finish. -
Forced myself back to the bench after nearly 3 months of inactivity. Still lots of ideas stuck in my head, but need to get the juices flowing again. Took me a little while to figure out where I left off and what I still needed to do. I fitted suspension arms and brakes for the front and rear and made a up a simple exhaust. I think I'm ready to start prepping parts for paint.

The Goat Wagon Update 12/30/22 Body In Paint!
Mr. Metallic replied to Plowboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Sadly, just a few days after his last update apparently Roger passed away. (Jan 4) -
I may have caused some confusion. The yellow build is my version of a miniaturized Big Deuce. For those familiar with the Big and Little Deuce kits Monogram made quite a few changes to the design of the Big Deuce when they made the Little Deuce tooling. So for this build I added parts to make it more like the Big Deuce like the spare, the quick change rear, wheels and other smaller items. Here is a true Little Deuce I did, using a later edition that was molded in black, but with Little Deuce pieces

Just a little history lesson, the kit you're building originated as this kit. Came out in the mid-60's, and has gone through quite a few modifications to the tooling over the years, most notably a completely different engine and rolling stock. Still builds into a great hot rod, but for those of you wanting to build fenderless just seek out the Revell 32 Here's my latest build using this kit

AMT 1960 3-in-1 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck

well, we should find out Saturday if this is really happening or not. Fingers crossed -
I appreciate the effort to direct us towards another scale Nailhead. I'm a big fan, so getting another one in scale would just be a bonus, hence my hope they finally bring it out in one of these Keelers Kustoms since it was ignored in the rerelease of the other engines back in the late 90's. There are quite a few Nailheads in scale of varying degrees of accuracy, but I won't rehash those in this Atlantis thread.

Round2/ AMT '55 Chevy Nomad Wagon Kit Coming in 2023
Mr. Metallic replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for sharing this pic. I have a few sets of those wheels and like how the rears are either paint detailed. -
Sure they're both Nailheads, and may even be based off the same master. However, the parts pack engine has some unique parts from the Ivo engines including a more conventional oil pan, different (non-branded) valve covers and most importantly an actual transmission. I think it's worthwhile to release.

As far as 3D printing goes, I don't think the holes forming in the resin market from people retiring or going out of business needs to be filled by everyone going out and getting a 3D printer and becoming proficient in CAD. It only takes a handful of people to start up companies to produce the parts based on their own designs or farming out the design work to others. And that's already happening. there are quite a few printing businesses targeted at our hobby outside of the behemoth that is Shapeways. A few that spring to mind immediately are Texas 3D Customs, 3D Scale Parts and IceMan. All have raised the bar for others in our hobby as far as quality of prints, design and customer service. And they are commendably filling the holes left by the traditional resin casters that are going by the wayside. Not to discount the importance of traditional resin casting to our hobby because there is still a strong demand for what they do, especially for bodies. But I don't feel that the sky is falling as resin casters disappear, those holes in the hobby are being ably taken up by the boutique 3D printers. More power to those of you that want to invest the time and money in doing your own 3D printing, many of you are turning out incredible stuff. But that's not really practical for our hobby on the whole, iMHO

AMT 1960 3-in-1 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck

Here we are exactly one year to the day since this thread was started, and we're actually sitting here patiently awaiting the possibility of a formal announcement at the DAAM show in 10 days that this kit is coming back. Fingers crossed it is this kit, although Stevens letting it slip is a pretty good indicator that it is true. -
Likely based on the recent Surf Shark, which is itself a reworked Ghostbusters Ecto-1

I will actually grab one of these, and especially glad those nice double pinstripe redlines are in there. Now hopefully they will give us a set of matching slicks for them (even if they didn't exist in the real world ? )
