Deuce Hi-Boy Replica - details of some parts - Aug 30
Mr. Metallic replied to Phildaupho's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I've been wanting to try to scratchbuild one of those windshields for some time now. Yours came out really nice. I'll be following along on this one -
He wasn't local. I remember seeing ads in the other magazine for him. He had cool sounding stuff in the ads, but thankfully at the time I was too young to buy it. Dodged that bullet Good luck with this build Pat. I'm confident you can make something cool out of it.

Wal-Mart model car boxes
Mr. Metallic replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Loved the price point on those too. Wish I had bought more of the Ala-Kart ones, the $5 price tag is worth it just for the wheels and tires. -
Just got my order the other day. Beautiful castings, as always from Drag City Castings. Some of these items are brand new to his catalog, others he's been offering for awhile. For a full list of his current offerings, follow the link. He does some of the nicest quality stuff in the business, and offers a lot of unique items that aren't available anywhere else. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/member_dealer_directory/drag-city-casting-/ Louvered trunk lid for the Revell 32 5 Window (in case you've used up all your kit sourced ones since they fit the Revell 30 coupe and I think the Revell 32 roadster/Rat Roaster) Blue Beetle Caddy valve cover/heads. The valve covers in the reissue Blue Bandito do not have the script. Sectioned 32 ford grille (perfect for a Milner deuce project) 36 Ford pickup grille (this piece came shipped assembled to protect the parts, so I honestly thought it was one piece, that's how good the casting is) Lil Coffin/Lil Deuce front wheels with separate caps Small window Halibrand rears Small window Halibrand fronts Here's the modified SWC Willys seats that Ed modified and upgraded. Look at the fidelity in the piping on these Sweet diamond tuft seats Lil Deuce Pontiac engine (with the FI intake from the latter Son of Ford kit. Ed also offers the Lil Deuce 6 carb intake option) And a close up of the Son of Ford/Early Iron edition Pontiac FI intake setup.

Dyno Don Funny car coming next year 2018
Mr. Metallic replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'm thinking HL isn't stocking this one. Stores I've been to have all been reset, and empty holes that have stickers on the shelves, none have the Cougar. Just like I waited for them to stock the Mod Rod 29 A roadster kit a couple years ago, and they never did. -
News of Revell molding preparing in US
Mr. Metallic replied to Jon Cole's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Excellent quote! thanks for the chuckle Brett Also, thanks for sharing the info you have to quiet the nay-sayers. it's good to have some positive Revell info after so much darkness, useless conjecture and nay-saying -
Admins, can you combine this with the existing Hobby Lobby thread?
-
Alright, it's a long shot, but does anyone happen to have the tailgate(not the upper hatch pictured here, just the tailgate) from the older version in their parts box. It's the only thing I'm missing to restore one now that I can combine it with the parts from the current Mount n Goat...

Flat Head finned head ?
Mr. Metallic replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Good to know, I just assumed since they were so big on a 1/25 engine they were meant for 1/24. Shame, because they are beautifully molded, and offer brands not offered anywhere else(to my knowledge) -

Who says it's not coming? The stuff that is on this list was already already in the catalog when Hobbico went under, or very close to being released. So, basically all the new owners had to do was give the green light to run plastic through the tools(and possibly come up with new packaging to reflect their ownership if they decide to go that route) So, other rumored or hoped for projects can still be coming. Don't give up hope. Let them get the money moving first. This is just the first step of many. -
Flat Head finned head ?
Mr. Metallic replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The MCG pieces are beautiful, but I believe are intended to use on 1/24 flatheads. Normally, I don't care about swapping parts between scales, but these are obviously oversized when you put them on a 1/25 flathead. They can be made to work with a little clever sanding and shimming. Rep+Min of MD has quite a few beautiful flathead parts, including heads -
Dragster front wheels
Mr. Metallic replied to Bilingham's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
the second picture above (and copied here)is described as 1/24 by the OP -
Though I've not tried it myself, I have seen guys get good results using thread. It acts like a band saw or coping saw, but on a smaller scale. Drill a pilot hole just big enough to feed the thread through, and then pull the thread back and forth as you make your way along the panel line. Anyone out there use this method successfully?

If you're able to get the job done in a short amount of time you may be able to get away with it. But trust me, I've learned from experience, on Modelhaus parts even. I wouldn't tempt fate even overnight, as i lost a set of Modelhaus wheelcovers that i tried to remove the chrome from.

Stripping paint in our hobby depends on 2 main things. 1) Type of paint 2) Material that is painted (resin, metal, plastic) For stripping die casts, Aircraft Stripper usually works on just about any type of paint For stripping Tamiya and Testors lacquers, 91% alcohol usually works best, but test first because it can have different effects on different materials Fro stripping enamels and a good general purpose stripper, use Super Clean, but DO NOT use it on resin. It will destroy it. But I have had plastic parts soak in it for years with no apparent effect on the plastic. Easy-Lift-Off or Scalecoat (whatever it's called now) is a wipe on product that works well, but do not soak parts. As always, test any stripper on your material first if you've never used it before.

Nice build, love the paintjob Is this a 1/25 kit or 1/16? I ask because those front wheels and tires are sweet and I'd like to know the source

Since you asked, here's a few thoughts. First, I understand why he picked that name, but there was another well known aftermarket supplier called S+S Specialties, that used to offer similar products to what you intend. So, I would suggest changing the name to avoid getting roped into confusion with the old company. And I'm not just speaking out of my rear on this. I have an example. R+R Resin Casting was one of the big casters in the 80's and 90's. They have been gone for awhile, but to this day I still see people confusing them with RMR, a current resin company. And bothj of them get confused with R+M of Md, and vice-versa. Also, if the products are good and desirable, be prepared for it to consume your hobby time. There are many tales of aftermarket company owners who started their business to make a little extra cash and/or help out friends, and the business grew to take up all their spare time and they didn't have time to build anymore, and sometimes even to the point where they couldn't keep up with the demands. That usually results in upset customers and even legal action and a bad name in the hobby. Not that I'm trying to scare you away from your endeavor, just presenting you with some info so you can possibly avoid others mistakes. I look forward to seeing the products, and I wish you luck in your new venture!

That's the first one of those resin bodies I've seen built. Your build turned out really nice. Clean execution, pleasing color scheme. i did the master for this btw. Still haven't built one myself

Yeah, a lot of your parts look good in that big pic of the full "kit" you printed. But those KH bent wires you printed came out really nice.
