Sorry I misread your post. I thought you said it was going away. As I said I do know they went to subscription only as I read it in the magazine. Unfortunately print magazines are going through tough times. I also prefer print to digital.

I agree I think the $250k is all the costs for an full detail tooling. I would hazard a guess that a full clone of a fairly detailed older kit is easily a 150k to 200k cost. Definitely not chump change. Good info on the licensing costs. A company definitely has to do quite a few kits to recover those costs. As you pointed out part of the licensing to to protect the owners of the licensing for the full size cars from deep pockets law suits. No matter how many warnings you.provide won't protect them from stupid people who won't take responsibility. The old adage that it takes money to make money still holds true.I think the cloning works for Round2 bbecause hey have kits that are gone that can be leveraged into several vvariations. I think one shot clones have to be selected with a lot of research for them to be viable. Good points. A d some of the older kits really need improvement in the detail department. For example the old Johan pro stack maverick. First it can only be built as a drag version. Second the engine is compromised becuase it suppose to represent a 429 and SOHC motor making it inaccurate in both cases. It would take a lot of work to do it right. And if you put a lot of work to fix the engine then you are left with a no detail one piece chassis. It would be better to start with a clean sheet of paper. In addition it looks like Mobieus has plans to do that.

I looked at their website and they just did new issues. Nothing was said about the magazines going away. What was that statement based on?

NEVER, NEVER use your debit card for online purchases. Use a credit card otherwise you run the risk of the thieves emptying your account and the banks sometimes are slow to replace the funds.

With the new update I still have the functionality that I had before with Chrome using http. I suspect the change in the post history is a settings change. One new feature I like is in the previews there are small thumbnails that show and they load quickly. Also noticed that when a scan is done there is a message saying it's processing.

Glad to see this back. Lots of nice work.

Thanks for doing the update Dave. Was hoping it would resolve the issues.

The thing is reissuringi the kits won't impact the price of the original sealed kits. Original kits still are the primary interest of the collectors. The prices may drop on the rebuilders or incomplete kits. If you believe so strongly there is a market then show us. What will the cost to do the kit? Cloned may be cheaper but it's still a significant investment. How much for licensing from the manufacturer who owns the rights to the full size vehicle? What is your projected sales of the kits based on the kits subject matter? How many do you have to sell to make a ROI? These need to be real numbers and not what you think they might be.

I believe that car kulture deluxe and ol skool have gone to subscription only. The old paradigm for magazines just does not work anymore. Magazines survive on advertising dollars and the internet has eroded that severely. In addition printing up thousands of copies and sending them to stores has become too expensive and the unsold copies are destroyed as it's not cost effective to return them. Besides the space in stores for m magazines can be used for higher profit items. All of this has made it difficult for print magazines to survive

I haven't purchased HOT Rod magazine in years. When I go to the store I look at it but never see anything worth buying it for.

Rodder's Journal magazine

I agree. I think they just had a bad run of events. I think magazines were hit the hardest. Several issues with little or no newsstand revenue. In addition if they were shipped they weren't returned they were destroyed. In addition I believe there was one shipment of magazines for overseas that was lost. Doubt there was insurance to cover those loses. I seriously doubt that their intent was to cheat anybody as the magazine had been doing really well. Hopefully there is an issue in the works. They produced a great magazine. -
https://www.newsweek.com/customer-gives-massive-tip-mistake-subway-sandwich-1845603 First off people are distracted these days. Second the article above explains the issue a little better. I always pay cash for purchases. The fees can cost a business a good chunk in the long run.

Thanks Dave. -
Ah but in the never ending quest to streamline cost the customer is now doing the quality assurance. They just need to train the customers better.

True. And it does create confusion in this case however it would have to be legally challenged and that means money for lawyers.
