Anyone deal with Motor City Resin Casters?
bobthehobbyguy replied to gbtr6's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I'm sure your actions have saved others from getting fleeced. Glad you acted. It's unfortunate that it had to come to this but a business has to reasonably communicate with its customers. There is no way a customer should have to put up with such bad behavior. -
Very cool project. Another cool project using 3d printing.

Japanese samurai swords aren't recommended for building model cars.

Why is my coat so splotchy
bobthehobbyguy replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
First off brush painting is totally different than spray painting. It's going to take a lot longer for the enamel to dry. Second whatever you learn from brush painting isn't going to apply to spray painting. It would be better to wait till you can get an airbrush setup. -
It was a character in the Addams Family which was a hand that lived in a box.

I agree. However I'd avoid mixing brands until you've got the basic painting process down. The key is getting some experience. There is a method called the Donn Yost method which you mix cheapskate lacquer thinner with the enamel. You can Google youtube for some of his painting videos. If you are going to use enamels you need an airbrush. Brushing enamels is not really the way to go. Enamels dry really glossy. In most cases clears are not used on light colors becuase they can yellow You could just use the color coats for your first paint jobs. Get your paint process down. Once that is done you can then you can experiment with clears. -

You don't need to switch from enamels. Just stick with one brand of enamel. -

In addition to practicing on spoons. You will save yourself a lot of grief by sticking with one brand and type of paint. Mixing brands and types is a recipe for disaster. -
I agree. There have been fake obituaries for big name celebrities. However how could you expect that would be the case for someone like Donn. Unfortunately there are some sick people in the world who get their kicks off of doing sick and cruel things like this.

Not only irked but saddened. There has been a thread in where's Waldo about Donn Yost who has been dealing with serious health issues. Another member posted a link to what looked like a obituary. I think a lot of people would have believed the obit given the circumstances. Fortunately someone who uses Facebook and was on Donn's Facebook page said that was not the case and he is still with us. Unfortunately AI generated hoaxes are going to become a lot more prevalent and a lot harder to tell they are not true.

Unfortunately I think these types of hoaxes are going to get even more prevalent.

I also don't care for the pewter parts also because they just don't polish well.

3D printed Cobra Daytona Quality ?
bobthehobbyguy replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That is complete trash. I have never seen a 3d printed body that looked that horrible. I'd request a refund. If you can't get one file a dispute with your credit card company or PayPal depending how you paid. -

Congrats on your birthday. Here's to you having many more.. Just think the next birthday that will be the same whether you look at it right side up or upside down will be 96.

Old ‘57 Chevy build with paint work by my dad.
bobthehobbyguy replied to atomicholiday's topic in Model Cars
If it were me I would clean off the dust and reassemble it. It is a time capsule of your dad's work and yours and deserves to be kept in that condition. Since it an available kit get a new one and build a modern version of it today to be shown side by side. -
Is this a good airbrush?
bobthehobbyguy replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree. Wait till you can get one of those brands. One problem with low quality products is they don't always work. Which could be very frustrating when starting out. Second what issues are you having with the testors airbrush. You might try searching on YouTube for videos on trouble shooting that airbrush. What are you using for an air supply for the testors. -
Great looking project.

Rebuilds or New Kit
bobthehobbyguy replied to Slotto's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd say build a fresh kit. If it's one of your old builds it's a snapshot of your skills when it's built. As said if it's a common kit tearing it apart and stripping can consume limited bench time.
