Some talk on car movies.
1972coronet replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Though not specifically a car-movie , Dazed and Confused (1993) had it right --- not only vehicle-wise , but just in-general ; just historically-accurate all the way . The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) has a goof : the owner of the 1971 Road Runner refers to its " 383 Hemi " . That's bad considering that the car was not only 2 years old , but that its engine callouts read "383" . The 1950's and 1960's have got to be thee most inaccurately-represented in films . Funny how everyone in the 50's drove 50's vehicles ; funny how everyone in the 60's wore far out clothing (including some cross-pollination of early 70's garb ! ) . -
No roll-bar this time around ? Well , I hope that the vintage 1969 custom parts are still included --- and that the Beaumont SD-396 conversion is ready soon .

Revell Greased Lightning '48 Ford 'Vert
1972coronet replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Nothing quite says "FIFTIES !" like a set of raised white letter tyres ! Horrible film that's rife with historically-inaccurate nuances and visual horrors . -
The 8 3/4 rear (drop-out centre) would be the safest bet . The 8 1/4 and 7 1/4 [junk] rears were unusual , even in their time , with that junk 7 1/4 being behind Slant Six models (though I seem to remember original 6-powered models having the 8 1/4 [decent] in them , with a few 8 3/4's around ) . You're right on about the Dana 60 --- that would look out-of-place in a 4 door hardtop phantom Barracuda .

You're not alone in remembering a 1/25 scale 1976 Cosworth Vega , as I seem to recall that either MPC (most-likely) or Revell (less-likely) produced one . I'm leaning toward an MPC issue ; a mid-1976 issue (like the 1971 Duster-Demon annual kit ) . Considering that I was 6 years of age when the Cosworth was new ; and considering that I was really starting on glue kits in 1976 , I'm certain that I've seen a kit of the Cosworth . Now we just need to find an image of the box art .

Looking great ! Lots of work involved here , and you're doing a fantastic job . Question : Why would you go through the trouble of making that absolute garbage 7 1/4 rear ???? The only place that that rear belongs -- in 'actual' life or in scale -- is in the scrap heap .

Looks GREAT , Snake ! Nice save on that A-bod !

56 Pontiac or Olds diesel?
1972coronet replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wonder if that 1956 model had a 3-71 Detroit in it ? Seems possible , albeit expensive . -
Two years later , and I'm just now finding this thread ! POW ! That's an excellent Nickey Camaro ! I bought this kit upon its release , and now it sits unbuilt in my 'inventory' . Question : It would appear that you removed the (incorrect-for-this-application) A.I.R. Pump ; how did you do so ?
-
I think the same thing whenever I visit Round2's site : , "I've been hearing about this Larson 1974 Vega P/S for almost 10 years now... Where the hell is this thing ?!?" Once it's released , I can pirate its chassis and use it under my '74 Vega annual !

Plymouth 383 auto.
1972coronet replied to RichCostello's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Two 1969 model year 440-HP engines : This one represents an engine with the N97 Noise Reduction Package ( e.g. , the dual snorkel air cleaner versus the unsilenced air cleaner of the following... ) This includes a better shot of the different rocker covers ( colloq. , "valve covers" ) versus the 1970 & later arrangement . Also note that this is a 'Magnum' ; that's Dodge's name for their high performance 383 and 440 engines . Plymouth called theirs , "Super Commando" ( and 'Road Runner Engine' for the 1968-1971 383 ) . The rocker covers changed for 1970 due to then-new evapourative emissions standards . That's why the ones on the AMT 1971 Charger's 440 Magnum's rocker covers are incorrect for 1969 & earlier ; same goes for the air cleaner assembly ( though it could provide a basis for a Noise Reduction Package air cleaner ) . -
Thanks for the image ; don't believe that I ever saw this one during its first (or subsequent) run . For a future reference , what is this type of vehicle referred to as ? "Modified" ? "Circle Track" ?

The '69 Chevelle Hardtop + the Beaumont conversion + Le Mans/ GTO dash = fun project . I wonder what that Ridge Runner Pinto is supposed to "be" ? Drag race ? 'Modified' dirt track ? ( I'm going to take a quick dip in the Revell '68 Chevelle pond here : I'm willing to bet that if its sales are satisfactory , a '69 would be the natural evolution of the Chevelle series... and perhaps a '70 , ad seq. )

1970 Dodge Hemi Charger RT in factory B3 blue
1972coronet replied to baycolony's topic in Model Cars
Outstanding XS29R0 ! EB3 Light Blue Metallic ( Ice Blue Metallic , Plymouth ) is an excellent colour choice -- and , it's a stunning colour in person and in the sunlight -- especially for a maximum performance car such as a Charger . Do you have a hosting page and / or photos of your other works ? -

Life-long California resident here ---- let me shed some light on a bit of history of the licence plates of this state (at least from 1963-1988) For an instance : the '938 DAN' plates : the "D" = 1971-issue . These blue / gold plates were issued starting around 01/01/1970 ; aside from the colour change , there were other subtle changes versus their 1969 & earlier relatives : - The fonts of " I " "O" and "Q" changed - The series swapped to numeric-alpha arrangement - Personalised / Vanity plates were introduced ( I've heard that those started in 1974 ) - "MONTH" stickers started on 01/01/1976 . Prior to 1976 , two "YEAR" stickers were employed (see the sample above which ChrisBcritter provided ) - 7-character plates were introduced in c.1980 . Plates' arrangement was changed to numeric-alpha-numeric ( example : "1KWU396" ) - Commercial plates changed from black / gold to blue / gold in c.1972 . ** I WILL EDIT THIS POST LATER TODAY AS I HAVE TO LEAVE FOR WORK NOW . I JUST WANTED TO GET SOME INFO OUT THERE FOR YOU GUYS TO WORK WITH **

Revell 56 Ford truck history
1972coronet replied to 68shortfleet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have an original c.1962 issue ; in addition to what's been described contents-wise , there's a surfboard included . Not sure if that cool little treat found its way into later iterations of the '56 F-100 . -
AMT and MPC Please Put Out Significant Kits
1972coronet replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Some "Dreck" I would love to see reissued : - MPC Supra / Celica (c.1985) - MPC Chevette - MPC Monza (preferably in 1978 livery) - MPC 1978 Chevy C10 two-wheel-drive - MPC 1978 Vega (with the Pro Stock parts included) - MPC Econoline Van (both the 1/25 scale and 1/20 scale ; the latter with all stock parts included) -

Thank you for rescuing and nursing that special angel , and for keeping him as your companion ! -
Thanks much for the photo , Casey . Looks like the car is being restored --- is it a retired "A38" ?

I'd be looking at some serious prison time if I ever caught some dirtbag trying to poison anyone's animal companion ! Some of the control freaks around the apartments here complain about two long-time stray kitties . I school those dirtclods by telling them , "Notice how few rodents we have around here ? Leave those cats alone !" -

1972coronet replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
It's funny how Big Cats love boxes and the such as much as their 'domestic' relatives . One of my kitties (both are shelter rescues) is 15 years ; he's half-Brit , half-whatever , and 100% kitten ! He wedges himself into places that make us wonder , "How the heck did he get-into _____________ ??" . On a related note ---- here's one of my favourite Big Cats : 'Messi' , the Puma ( https://www.instagram.com/l_am_puma/?hl=en ) -
The 1972 Duster 340 annual that I have included a bilingual instruction sheet : U.S. English and Français . No other mention of nor allusion to its being produced in or for French-Canadian consumption ; just the instruction sheet . Granted , I bought it via eBay , and the kit was unwrapped / opened (and its chromed parts placed in a Zip-Loc bag) , so who knows whether or not the instruction sheet is original-to-my-example ? When I bought it , all that I cared about was the sum of its contents (and that I got it for a very reasonable price !) --- the bilingual instructions were a surprise 'bonus' .

The Byrds 1967 instrumental take on Bound To Fall . This track features one of my favourite guitarists : Clarence White ! Here's the Brewer & Shipley version from 1974 :
