  1. I have 5 spotlights over my bench, shooting light from all directions. I think you can see 4 of them in this photo, the two at the top of photo are clamped to the shelf above. The light you see on the right is one of those lights with a magnifier in the top. I cannot use the magnifier, as it’s just not a natural work position, the light is fine though. There is one more light on the right positioned to the center. All of these lights are plugged into a strip, so it’s one switch on or off.
  2. If there was no change, there would be no Internet and we’d still be looking a little black and white photos in pulp magazines!
  3. I have two of these Dodges in a box! Clean old built ups that I bought at a car show probably 30 years ago for $10!
  4. Does this car exist today? If so where is it? Or is there a story about what happened to it?
  5. I feel this way too. I just don’t get the guys who finish a model and offload it before started the next one. I haven’t built to order. I don’t need the pressure to build quickly and I found that most folks don’t have any idea the effort required, thus want to pay very little. I have given away a few models. Above ya my sister in law’s Chevette. Back in the last century I helped her buy her first car when she was 17. She was talking to me at a holiday get together about her friends all talking about their first cars, and how she fondly remembered us buying the Chevette. She kept it 10 years and it never failed her. So I found a promo curbside car and built it for her. She was so excited! It sits on her home desk today. More recently I built this trio during the pandemic. The restaurant on the logo is doing good work for charity so I built two of these for them. I have had people ask to buy my models that are near and dear to me. As with you, they are not for sale!
  6. Now that you mentioned it, I do have maybe a dozen models in my collection by others. The pink and black Crown Vic was built by Harry. The white wagon was built by Todd McWilliams, you may remember him. I bought them to remember my departed friends.
  7. I’ve never had any issues with using Dullcote to flatten / seal in any of my weathering and rust. If you are concerned, spray a little into a small cup and brush some onto the shiny areas
  8. how about model car building? “He’s going for his second attempt at putting the engine halves together...”
  9. Very cool! Glad to see it finished
  10. My father was a career US Army officer. I grew up as an army brat, moving every few years and living in foreign countries and army posts. There was a culture that was a bit different than a normal upbringing. My dad was in Vietnam in 1962-3, before we admitted there was a war. He never spoke about it.
  11. My pet peeve is people who take an old glue bomb that’s missing the hood and a few other parts, smear some rust color paint on it and list it as a pro built weathered junker. Sometimes adding rat rod to the description!
  12. Lookin’ good! I always liked this car, I have to keep an eye out for this kit.
  13. Very nice work!
  14. Even forget clear, clear red plastic. You can make your tail light from anything.. them wrap it in BMF and color the lenses with Sharpie pens. Works especially well when there are multiple color lenses. Chevette lights were molded in clear red but needed to be red / orange / chrome bezel.
  15. I worked a bit on getting the 4 cylinder to sit right on the Jeepster frame. Modified the motor mounts and moved the tranny mount forward. Onward to driveshafts and exhaust.
  16. Part of the problem at shows is that once scratch building gets painted over and finished, a lot of folks don’t see it. Prior to the internet and digital photos I used to say my favorite category at shows was the primer table since I could see how the model actually went together.
  17. Saved me digging for the photo. My favorite box art of all time! My personal copy was signed for me by Bob Paeth, who was project manager for this kit.
  18. I was married on May 30th. It wasn’t Memorial Day that year but people always equate it
  19. I stopped competing many years ago. Now I bring my models to shows to share them with my friends and to support the host club. I go to shows to have fun and see people, and have lunch. I’m very good at lunch. I still win an occasional award but am not that concerned about it.
  20. Very nice! Both Barry and Del are sorely missed! It was a shocker to lose both of them in such a short time span.
