Car modelling in the UK
Tom Geiger replied to Earl Marischal's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Reminds me of when I was a kid 1969-72 living in Pirmasens Germany. The US dollar had taken a dump from 4 Marks to a dollar to 2! The very few Revell kits at the local hobby store.. I remember buying Porsche 911 and 914, were 20 Marks which was $10 back when US kits were stil in the $2.50 range! There was no Internet or eBay so we only had the AutoWorld catalog. It took 6-8 weeks to get an order. That’s like a century to a 13 year old boy! -
Revell Land Rover Series III LWB

Nice work! Very typical in color and weathering. I used to work for a British company and one of the executives brought his to the US and drove it to work on occasion. I need to dig mine out. I did the Revell Trabant wagon and it was a near perfect kit! The quality from the team in Poland is amazing. And I wouldn’t want to get a flat tire and need to deal with the roof mount tire! -
WNEW New York always played it at noon on Thanksgiving. Yesterday a guy on Facebook said he just didn’t get it.. I told him he was too young to understand!

Alan.. in dealing with older pets they tend to lash out when they are in pain. Ask a vet if his leg might be painful or maybe results of the wing clipping still healing. Maybe some pain meds are in order. I had this situation with my dog near the end of his life.

Good news for a change...

Locally there are stores that have me scratching my head.. we have a cup cake store and another that only sells Bundt cakes. There’s a flag store and a beef jerky store. The new vape shop seems to do well. But somehow a hobby shop won’t work?! -

Thanks. The Mitsubishi pickups had 6 lug wheels so I used the ones from the 57 Chevy Black Widow

The pandemic has changed a lot of habits. While people are still being cautious and going out less, I understand people have learned that they don’t have to be out and about all the time. People will be spending more time at home in the future. Which is good for hobbies! -
Sticking to the theme of tires.. what drives me nuts is people lining up at the free air pump at the Wawa store. Then they go to each corner of their vehicle and try to put air in all the tires… while I’m waiting! Tonight some lady must’ve heard her phone ringing in the car.. she opened the door and answered her phone.. stopped pumping while she proceeded to talk on the friggin phone! At least the guy in front of me honked at her! Then of course he proceeded to do the all four tire thing. I guess nobody owns an air gauge? When I get to the pump I quickly add air to the ONE tire that needs it!

It actually wasn’t a bad little car. My brother in law had a Pinto wagon. I am the family car guy so he asked me to sell it for him. I drove it around a whole summer with For Sale signs on it and it was a fun little car to drive. It had a 4 speed. I was actually sorry to see it go when someone bought it! Youre doing a great job!

I don’t live in an apartment but I do paint in a spare bedroom, with a vent duct out a window. I cut a board to fit in the open window, with the duct through it. Depending on the room you have for something fixed, I recommend the 24” wide Pace Super Mini that sells for $400 but is now on sale for $345 delivered. The box is HVAC quality metal and it uses a standard 12 x 24 furnace filter. https://www.pacepaintbooth.com

My father was an audio guy. He always had the best equipment and took care of it. When he upgraded something, he put the used unit back in the original box. I have all his equipment tucked away. My younger daughter’s fiancé is a vinyl guy. And a very nice sentimental kinda guy. Once they get settled into a house, I may have found a home for some of the equipment.

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A glue bomb that had been in the bottom of one of my parts boxes a very long time. This summer it got fished out and wound up on top of my model room TV just to get it out of the way. Note that I probably have a dozen of this kit. Was this one valuable? Nope! Would the average modeler restore it? Nope! But it was calling my name! So I decided it indeed deserved to live again! I am pleased to have made something from nothing. -
My grandfather was a good old guy who always took me places as a kid. Those trips always included random stops in bars.. I’d wait outside while he ran in to use the restroom. I’d look in and see him standing at the bar having a drink.. he’d say, “You can’t use their restroom without buying something!” Sounded reasonable to young me. At eight I knew enough not to tell my grandma! ?
