Some of the first car kits that I recall were basically Promos with the screw bottoms and wire axels. The first Revells I tried were I think 1/32nd scale. Revell offered a '55 or '56 Chrysler hardtop, a '56 Ford Fairland Convertible, and two different '56 Ford trucks. They had an F100 short step side and a Stake Bed version as well. When the '57 Ford Country Squire in 1/25 came out the body was made up of several parts without very well-defined fit and with my lack of experience I never did get that one together. AMT started marketing both GM and Ford Promo style kits for the 1958-year models and they even had interiors, and decal options along with continental kits. That was when I started spending all my money on the AMT kits.

Grand Prix Engine Question

This looks like a great solution for an engine. The picture shows what would have been an air cleaner for a high output engine with a closed crank case vent system. Your glue bomb engines exhaust manifolds are of the more desirable design if they can somehow be saved. The front pullies look nice and close together for clearance. -
I saw where the USGS rated it at a 4.4. That should get anyone's attention I would think.

Great looking save. Beautiful paint color and finish. The lowered stance and the big hoops work well to gather.

I like this style of build.

That may depend on two things. One, where you live. Two, do you have a backhoe? -

Yours was obviously a far greater loss, but it does point out the need for proper protection for your investments. -
Sonds like a good way to do the task. I buy a lot of the rubber gloves I use at Harbor Freight.
-
Isn't there a state utility regulatory commission where you live? I would have already lodged a complaint with them if this was happening to me.

Beautiful looking three window. Great paint job and engine detailing.
-
The clean assembly along with the different paint treatments really make this a great looking build.

The '64 Mercury Marauder was an impressive looking car for sure. Have you tried to straighten the body at all? Most recommend holding the body under running hot water and then try to force it back into shape.

I like the way the '56 Del Ray paint job looks.

Strangest Car Theft Story Ever?

Many years ago, mid '80's to be exact, my wife wanted to go back to collage to finish her degree. We bought a pretty clean '66 El Camino for her to drive and park in the student parking lot. We wanted something that we wouldn't lose any sleep over when it got a door ding as opposed to our new '85 Monte Carlo SS. During her exam week she come out to the lot and was unable to find the El Camino. Talking to the Campus Policy we learned that they were losing on average a half a dozen or more cars every month. Just so happened my wife, the accountant, thought we could save money on our insurance bill by not having Theft Insurance on our policy on the El Camino. -
I also have a couple of the Lindberg SS396 Chevelle kits and for me the only drawback is the bumper guards. This is purely a personal thing on my part and most probably could care less. The fit and finish as well as the proportions seem just fine to me.

Looks like a lifetime worth of kits. These would all be very desirable to a collector, but from strictly a builder standpoint Round 2 has reissued all of these a few times over. That said, the fine details on the bodies and other parts should be much sharper than reissues using well-worn molds.

I have my doubts that Vaseline would be able to protect the bumper from the bleach. What may be a better option would be 1. separate the bumper and grill if possible. 2. Maybe try hand painting the bleach on the grill area with some masking tape on the bumper area. I wouldn't immerse the whole assembly in the bleach with the expectation that even the tape would protect the bumper.

Grand Prix Engine Question

An idea if you want to stay with this engine and add valve covers and an oil pan. One thing I noticed looking at the pictures is that whoever originally put this engine together mounted the heads and intake manifold croaked. Disassembly might be a little labor intensive, but it would be rewarding and a money saver as well. -

I also like the Buick Grand National engine and it looks like some of the front suspension as well. Great looking paint and it sure is bright. Like the smooth look of the body. -
'63 Ford Custom Cab.

Great look. I like the wider or reversed wheels. All the trim is cleanly done. -
Like the paint finish and the color. These always look better with a HEMI engine. Nice color contrast on the interior.
-
Beautiful paint finish and the color really looks good on this body. I like the contrasting interior color.
-
Beautiful looking finish and I like the two top options.
-
Beautiful paint finish and color. The interior and the body trim all look very clean.

Look forward to this build. As I recall the front spindles on this has a lot of adjustment and lowering blocks for the rear leaf springs as easy enough to do.
