California Sunshine show truck questions
espo replied to Faust's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just use the pictures on the box as a guide for colors and trim. The poor dilapidated looking truck in the pictures may have been through a few owners including those that didn't care. -
A thought on the new car dealership thing. As I understand it a good part of the shortage of inventory has to do with some of the computer components used to control many of the accessories and even basic controls on new cars and trucks. I'm sure there is more to it than that. We went through a bit of a battle last year to get my wife's new car as the model she wanted was only available in our area if it had every option including a $900 charge for the alloy wheels being painted black instead of a polished surface. In our area many dealers are advertising to have you order your new car and wait for delivery. With the cost for a dealership to pay flooring on a large inventory and a slow turn rate this is a wise business decision on their part, but most people want it now and can't wait 6 to 8 weeks or more depending on the availability of the required components. One thing we ran into and seems to be still an issue is that dealers are marking the MSRP up thousands of dollars on anything they have in stock. One thing to remember about auto dealerships is that there are often local influences that are different in different locations. This can be anything from taxes to local government compliance issues and even finding someone who is one qualified and two wants to work the hours it takes to run a retail dealership. Should this sound like I might have a little experience in that business you would be correct. There used to be a saying to describe the hours worked in a retail dealership, it was called "Eight to faint" and you're do back to work the day after your funeral. Lots of luck getting a Sunday off or any holiday for that matter. In sales if you have a vacation, it's because you're looking for work. Good life if you don't weaken.

This is why we need someone to issue a model of a Grand Prix.

To try and answer your question about Hobby Lobby. HL is a franchise store that carries arts and craft supplies as well as home decorating supplies. Doll houses to electric trains and airplanes and boats. Candles and jars bits of paper and cloth. They will even mount and frame your own pictures or one they sell. They have jewelry supplies and jig saw puzzles. I always find things I never realized that I needed whenever I visit.

I like the concept of a two-door wagon Olds. Great looking body modifications, looks smooth and the body lines flow like an OEM design.
-
Still a fresh looking build.

Beautiful looking Impala. This gold color was a dealer special order that Chevrolet offered to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Very accurate looking trim and interior finishes.
-
Nice clean looking build. Super buy on the kits.
-
Great looking finishes. Like the interior and the hub caps with the red wheels.
-
Bonus - you can use any leftover parts from your coupe build.

Was that with a small block ? Sounds like he would have started with a 400 cu in small block, but that engine didn't have a lot of meat left between the cylinder bores and in fact some OEM applications were prone to overheating under stress.

Any other Kansas modelers in here

There are a few Kansas builders here. I'm in the KC area but look forward to seeing whatever you're building. -
The thing I find so hard watching Mecum on TV is that the talking heads spend more time talking about themselves and or cars from their past. I have even noticed some of their "expert" descriptions of cars waiting to cross the block and describe a bored and stroked small block Chevrolet as a 429 cu in. ?

Great looking build and I like the way you did the figures, they look very realistic.
-
Great looking custom and the paint color and finish look great. I think I remember your earlier build pictures when you were working on the roll pans and bumpers, they came out looking very smooth with the body.

Love the subject and this kit in particular. Great paint finish and color. Perfect engine for this style of build.
-
Beautiful looking Mustang. The paint looks great and the contrast with the stripes looks good. Clean trim and engine.

Actually, this build looks like something a guy on a budget would put together. A lot of little touches as you study the pictures. I like the taillight mount.

Great looking build. I like the era styling Q's, and they seem to be coming back.
