I thought of that also. I generally hold the can about a foot to 18" away and haven't had the finish problems like I experienced this morning.

Aw the missing Jockey under ware arrives 4 days after my wife cancels the order. We went over 30 days waiting for our order that was supposed to be here within a week. The order is shipping out of Indiana to the Kansas City Kansas area. I know we're considered a "fly over state" but this is nuts even by USPO standards. She had called Jockey's Customer Service number several times and got no call backs during the 30 days that the package was MIA. Only a week after she canceled the payment on the order and the next day after the USPO crams the package into our mail box do they call. I'm going to wait and see if they request payment or comp my BVD's.

My deepest condolences to you and your family for the lose of your mother. There is often a very empty and lonesome feeling when this happens.

I have noticed that they're getting bigger and bigger to the point that they now take up more than half of each page when you're trying to read about some ones build or look at the finished build. They have gotten beyond rude or annoying and now are becoming down right obnoxious. I hope there is something that can be done about it soon.

Another beautiful looking build. I'm glad you're good natured about everyone's personal input, including my own, on this model. Remarkably accurate looking Nova and the color is very close to one that was used at the time. While the chassis is on the basic side your color touches to the drive shaft and other areas make it look much better. Look forward to your next build.

I have used the Tamiya TS-60 Pearl Green also and used the spray can with great results. Your body work on the roof to body joint is as if there never was a problem.

Great looking flams, I like the whole 4 banger engine idea.

My question has to do with Tesors Lacquer paints. This morning I was testing some colors for a build on the bench. I have several of the Testors spray cans that I have had for a couple of years. I used their Clear on my last build and had some bubbling issues along body and molding edges. Today I was trying one of the metallic paints and the finish looks like a spray bed liner or a vinyl roof which wasn't my intent. My normal prep before spraying includes a lot of can shaking and twirling so that the ball inside the can can get any particles that have settled to the bottom are back in suspension. I also set the spray can in some very warm water for about 5 minuets to bring the temp up and again with the shaking and twirling before I spray the parts. Maybe others have had problems like this, and maybe the paint is just to old ? One of the cans I tried had some of the clear bubbling stuff that seems to be apparent with the Testors product also. Could this be part of the problem ? Any insight would be appreciated.

Missing Iconic Hot Rods

You have to give the builder credit. The body changes look like they were going for a Plymouth Fury look. With the exception of the windshield they got really close with the side trim if nothing else. -
When I first saw the new BMW Grill design I couldn't believe they could or would do something like this. At this moment it looks, to me anyway, as a very hideous design. While I wouldn't buy a new BMW based on this design, I'm no longer in a financial position to buy one anyway. I think in time this may become a new styling trend. Think back to when Audi came out with the big Groper fish type grill and everyone looked on in horror. A few years later many new car designs included this appearance. The large black grill look is fading somewhat now but it has been a design element on new cars for several years now. So while I may think it's uglier than sin now, in a few years I may have a different opinion. .

Always enjoy seeing this kit done. I have a thought on your decal issue. I've run into this also with older decal sheets. A product I used with some success was Testors Decal Bonder. This was designed to protect decals printed at home but they seemed to help with older brittle decals also. Now the bad news, with Testors being taken over this product my no longer be produced or even a replacement. I think there should be other paint manufactures that offer such a product and if you're building an older kit it might be an idea to find something like this before using the decals.

1960 Ford F-100 Lightning
espo replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Beautiful looking truck. I like the mild custom touches to the body and of course the Lightning chassis swap is special as well. -
Very clean looking build. I like the finishes on the interior and the body. Great looking engine and chassis. I like the "Dirt Track" rear tires.

Thank you thank you thank you for the link to this story. I knew that someone had restored the car but knew nothing about how it came about. This is where the "K" in Kustom came from. So many great people were involved in bring it back to it's original glory and the perfect person bought it when it was one step from the junk yard and nobody cared and he saved it. Any one looking at this post you who it to your self to go there and view everything if you have even the most remote interest in Customs from the era. Thank you again Randy. -
I walked into my model room today and saw something shiny from the rug at the edge of the plastic cover under my desk. An outside rear view mirror. The model I just started still has all of it's parts including the mirrors. I have know idea where it's from or what it goes to and I don't even think I have anything missing a mirror at this point. Must be from the "Otherside" is all I can think of.

Used to live in the Sacramento area until '96. I needed a seat track for our '85 Monte Carlo SS. I went to the local Pick - and - Pull yard. They wanted what I felt was way to much for a Monte Carlo seat track they said if they even had one for a Monte. Paid my $1 to wonder the yard. Hmm, a Cutless shares the same body shell so I figured it should be close. They charged me $5 for the seat track and I got some other bits for not much more. I cleaned and painted the track and it fit perfectly. Not bad since the dealership I worked at wanted north of $100 for a new track. I love these places.

Kool looking Kustom, to bad they don't offer this kit now. Great looking paint and just the right stance.
-
I enjoyed your build on this. What did you use for your heater hoses ? The paint treatment really makes this car standout. I always liked the "rake stance" back then and it offered enough room for thew oversized tires to stick out of the wheel wells just what HiJackers were invented for.

AMT C1500 454SS
espo replied to iamsuperdan's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Beautiful looking truck. I enjoyed wathching your build and I like how you mixed parts from other places. Like you I came up short on a few very small parts on the build I just finished. What I found in my case was in the bottom part of the kit box where the flaps fold together very small parts will get trapped in the flaps if they're loose in the box. Might be a place to start looking anyway. I also like the color for the body and the interior dash details . -
Hi Gareth, Thank you for looking in. I'm disappointed that the wood trim can't be seen now that it's finished, but I know it's there. Paint problems with the Sun Visor and the Skirts set me back as they had to swim in the purple pond three times. Hi Anders, Glad you enjoyed this build. I was trying something different and this kit is a great one to play with. Hi Bob, This build was based on a car I saw in a magazine and the trim was the main thing that I noticed about it. Creating my own trim was a bit of a challenge but it was also very rewarding. Engine detailing is something I have always enjoyed anyway but this engine compartment got real crowded fast and I had to leave out somethings I would have normally done. I'm especially glad you liked it. Stay well my friend. Thank you Greg. While it fought me here and there it was a fun build.
-
Great looking build. I didn't even know this kit existed.
-
Great looking Galaxy and the colors really work together. One thing to remember about this kit. The tool dates back to 1963 when AMT was doing annuals of many of the popular cars of the day. The molds are now owned by Round 2 and they are reissuing these kits with some more update additions but they still are more than 50 years old. Kind of amazing that they are as nice as they are and you can see how far model kits have advance in that time. Looking at them today they do seem rather primitive compared to the more current molds of today.
-
Beautiful looking build. Very cleanly detailed. I'm sure your friend will love it.
-
Very nice and you even got the era engine color correct. The nice thing about this kit is the parts interchange with the '57 Bel Air two door post kit as well as the '56 210 and even the '55 Hardtop that Revell offers.
