Anything New at Hobby Lobby?
espo replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you enjoy building pick-ups this is a kit worth try to find. Amazingly items like the hood will interchange with the Revell Suburban kit. The entire kit is a great credit to AMT of old. -
Thanks for the link. I have always been a big Pontiac fan and worked in a Pontiac dealership for many years. The body lines and everything else about those cars from the late '50's on where just the finest to me anyway.

Coca-Cola "Coke" red ideas needed
espo replied to Modelbuilder Mark's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have wondered about the "Coke Red" at times and looking at the product on the market shelves I've come to the conclusion that there is more than one shade of red. This may be rivet counting but I'm pretty good at that sometimes. To my eye the most predominant shade seems to be some where near Tamiya TS-86 Pure Red. or their TS_74 Clear Red over a silver base coat. Again this is based on packaging observed at the market. -
Can you use BMF over flat paint?
espo replied to Hotrod 97's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If adhesion is a problem with the foil, gently burnish the foil. I will use a tool with a round ball type shape on the end sometimes, but still prefer a good old fashion cotton Q-Tip for this. -
Beautiful looking build. Great paint job and the color really makes this standout. I also like the chassis details.

As long as the surface is smooth the foil will have the same smooth appearance. -
Great color selection, looks era perfect.

I personally prefer the silence when building, but I do appreciate some of the suggestions others have made. Sounds a lot like Surfer music from the early '60's. This will really get your head bobbing up and down.

Great looking build. Nice paint color and finish. The decal trim looks correct as does the wheels.

1958 Pontiac Delivery conversion from convertible

Good news. I'm on the lazier side so please let use know when and where the casting can be obtained. -
I like the look of the old stone building. That should go a long way to help with the insulation of the structure. Very nice "Man Cave" next door.

I understand and apologize if you feel that I have crossed the line on the politics. My intent was only bemoaning the fact of a lack of participation by the general public. I didn't want to speak ill of either party.

'49-'52 Chevy business coupe
espo replied to misterNNL's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
This could also be done by combining the Revell '50 Oldsmobile kits roof and an AMT '50 Chevrolet hardtop kit. Some surgery would be involved, but in the real world many of the body stampings would interchange between these two bodies. -
Great looking deep Green color. The mild trim removal really cleans up the appearance also. I also like the modified Tail Stripe pattern.

I have to agree with everyone else on the appearance of this build. The Dark Blue really looks Black in the pictures on my screen. I especially like the way you detailed the engine.
-
Great looking color and the engine detail is very impressive.

I like how you have blended so many different bits from several different kits to create the body. As others have mentioned the fender and body gap, is there any way to remove some material in an unseen area to better lower the body on the fenders ? This may also improve the alignment of the body molding between the hood and the body. great looking paint color and finish. Where did you source the air cleaners ?

First off I really like what you're building here. I was wondering where the basic body came from. Your post mentioned the '58 Bonneville promo, I noticed the four stars in the side trim. The roof and tail gate look like the '58 Chevrolet resin body. I don't think you could make a living selling a good resin casting of this, but I think there would be many who would be interested such as myself. You have the different body parts come together just the way I would envision Pontiac Motor Division doing it. -
Anyone Getting Ready For Winter?
espo replied to OldTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
An FYI on the driveway salt. Depending on the chemical makeup of the salt products on the market for this purpose many can and will really damage any concrete surface. Local TV station was pointing out that the more expensive versions are usually the best to use. I don't use any but several of my neighbors have thru the years and are now having to replace driveways and walkways. Their explanation about the more expensive salt was that the chemical makeup was the least damaging and that the chemicals were also more expensive for the manufactures. I'm cheep so I use the solar method to melt the ice. -
79 Jeep CJ7 floor
espo replied to Andrew D the Jolly Roger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think that Jordan Whites post pretty much answers any questions for the specific model in question. The Golden Eagle was one of the special models for that year that included carpeting. In the brochure it mentions the Decor Group that would give you the option of adding most or all of the appearance features of the Golden Eagle to any model that year. We had a '97 TJ Sport trim level and it had the light brown carpets and the floor boards were dark blue same as the exterior color. Our '09 JK Sahara has black colored carpet with the gray interior and the floor is again the exterior color called Red Rock Crystal Pear. -

I'm pretty sure the floor boards would have had a black rubber mat covering the foot wells. That would have been standard on most models. The exception might be for one of their special trim options where carpet might have been included. -
Anyone Getting Ready For Winter?
espo replied to OldTrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was reading one of the dog eared magazines in the doctors office today. The magazine was a 6 month old Reader's Digest. They always have readers wright in with some funny stories or happenings that they were involved in. The story was from a couple that were vacationing in Canada, I don't recall where. The leaves were turning and the American's asked what the locals did during the winter. The Canadian told him that they go south for the winter. So the American asked him were he went. The Canadian told him they go to Vermont. Made me laugh anyway. -
We didn't have any voting today but the greater Kansas City area cities did. This included KCMO and KCK. The talking heads on the 6pm news are expecting a whopping 10 to 12 percent turnout. I'm not picking on KC but voting turnouts most everywhere are deplorable. Anyone that is complaining about how elections turn out and didn't vote have no right to complain.

Your level of detailing of the engine and interior make this a real standout. The paint finish is excellent looking.
