Revell Reissued 57 Chevy Black Widow wrong body ?
espo replied to kingiguana's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
No big deal really, but upon checking two built models on the shelf, I can see that the 1:1 differences between the Bel Air and the 150 interiors are present. The dash in the 150 doesn't have the Bel Air polished aluminum dash insert and is a radio delete style. The seat pattern is also more basic on the 150. -
Outstanding chassis and engine detailing. The paint job really makes it stand out.

Beautiful paint job. I liked that you made the trunk lid look like an unfinished work in progress.

Great build. I like the paint finish, it looks like black in the photos. The engine detailing is very impressive.

As I'm sure you are finding out the options with models, especially from the '60's is better than ever. I'm wondering about the 4gc carb. you mentioned. I'm somewhat versed in Chevrolets as a whole but the 4gc is not something I'm familiar with. If you could describe it maybe I can help you as to where to look. -
Great looking body, clean trim and a good color combo. The Molotow pen that you and others have mentioned. I have looked everywhere and have not been able to find one. I have looked at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Office Depot, and a local arts store with no luck. Any additional places I should check ??

I agree with the others, this looks like a very well organized build unlike what my desk looks like. You mentioned the exhaust installation. The problem that they are talking about I think has to do with the interior floor boards. If the exhaust is on top of the differential when you install the floor boards to the frame it will work. I think what they were suggesting was that in their build sequence the floor boards would be mounted on the frame before the rear springs are mounted. Then it would be almost impossible to install the exhaust.

I think that may have been the name of the original builder. At least all of the rare Custom Accessories are present and accounted for. -

The Revell '69 Nova SS, the original small block kit, would be your best bet for the engine. The base engine is a Quadrajet small block and it has the correct cast iron exhaust manifolds. The optional Headers are a two piece affair and are very well done. The optional 2-4's are great for the parts box. I used the El Camino flat hood on a Chevelle Wagon project and it worked perfect. I also used the bucket seats from the El Camino on the wagon, they both have the correct Malibu Interior pattern. The '57 Chevy Bel Air tudor has two small block engine & transmissions included. One is a 3 speed manual and another with the Power Glide but is the older cast iron case instead of the Aluminum case you would have had if yours was a Power Glide. -
I like your color choice. What do you have in mind for the roof color?? I would avoid leaving the clear plastic masking on the body very long. I used this method once and the plastic wrap reacted with the paint on the main body, it was a mess. It may have been the brand of clear wrap I used, Glad Press'n Seal.

I know of what you speak. A little over twenty years ago I used an AMT '57 Ford hardtop to make a copy of a '57 Ford Convertible that I had in my youth. The next year we moved to the Kansas City area and the packing that goes along with that. Last year I saw a drawing of the new Revell '57 Ford made into a Convertible and that got me to thinking about that roof that I had removed years ago. I then removed the sedan roof and added the hardtop roof from the old AMT kit to make a low line hardtop. You learn to never through anything away, you just never know when you're going to need it.

Beautiful looking custom. Great colors, and the body and chopped top flow together well.

The TS-86 Pure Red is a Red Red for lack of a better description. To my eye it looked more like a bright Red but didn't have any Orange to it. TS-49 Bright Red is a very bright Ferrari type Red. The TS-85 Bright Mica Red has a hint of metallic. Some times online images just like printed images just don't turn out quiet the same. They also have a TS-12 Orange if you're looking for something along that line.

Great looking paint.

Congratulations on the 16 years. When it's right it's right and life is complete.

Please don't run away mad. I also have had the fight with a body in Red plastic. One thing I learned here from others is that red is very difficult to seal. What I also learned was that a number of builders have used the color silver on top of primer will block the red from showing thru. I think everyone was trying to help you by sharing their experiences.

I like all of the extra effort you put into the detailing. Even the flat silver inside the chrome tail light housings. The interior trim looks perfect. -
Beautiful looking Corvair, you just don't get to see these very often. I like the stance and the 4 carb. engine.
-
Another one of your beautiful signature black paint jobs. I was disappointed that Revell chose to not have the stock chrome moldings on this kit. It would be easier to remove them if not wanted than to make your own. The interior finish look perfect.

Another one of your imaginative builds. You turned this into a perfect Beach Cruiser. Racks for the boards and all. Looks like you might have gotten into the surf just a little.

Beautiful looking build. As others have pointed out weather you personally like the wheels or not you look past that if it should bother you. I for one prefer and usually build in much the same manor as your self and for me as long as its this side of Donk I fine with it. Everyone has things they prefer but the great thing about here is you get to see so many different styles and some unbelievable details. We all have a lot to learn from each other. I give your build two thumbs up.

Beautiful looking Oldsmobile. We had an '86 Monte Carlo SS from '86 to 2003. These two cars share a lot of DNA. Went over 100k with nothing but normal maintenance and sold it for just a little more than what we paid new, about $10k. Hang on to your 1:1, it's perfect looking and you already know how hard it is to find these cars anymore.

Great looking build. As others have pointed out it has the look of Milner's Hot Rod. I have always felt a little mixed on the abbreviated rear fender look but these look just right. Milner might want to be careful getting in and out that he doesn't burn his ankle on the side pipes.

Nascar tires yellow printing

You might look at the After Market Directory on this sight as there are many there that offer decals and transfers for tire lettering.
