Decals on a non smooth surface.
Fat Brian replied to conchan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Use the product above and also make the jersey gloss then apply a flat coat once the decals are dry. Decals put directly on a matte finish can "silver" around the edge. -
*Revell's Hot Wheels Ford Monster Truck*

They basically did a new body and interior for the Bigfoot 1 kit. I guess they didn't do a street version because the body isn't stock, it has a tilt hood and expanded wheel arches, and they didn't make any chassis or suspension parts for it. When they did do the 92-96 Ford trucks it doesn't share any parts with this body. -
Ron Olsen has a phantom LS3 based V12 on his 3d Model Specialties store on Shapeways. Everything I've gotten from him has been high quality without needing much if any clean up.

Yeah, it seems like they let a lot of tooling get damaged in that era. -

Yes, it shares most of its chassis and engine parts with the Bigfoot 1 kit. I don't think it's been seen since the Destroyer II, it makes me wonder if when they altered the grille they don't have the stock part anymore. It also seems like a lot of tooling last run in that era is ruined now, that was the last time the original Transtar II was usable and it seems like they can't find the stock chassis for the 88-98 Chevy pickups. -

If they do a real Bigfoot reissue I hope it's the 87-91 kit and not this one. The middle Bigfoot kit hasn't been out in almost 30 years. -
You could definitely put some money in your pocket. I don't know if it's the influx of new or returning builders that are driving prices up or just general economic forces but the market is certainly strong.

The Watanabe 8 spokes have been around since the 60s so they qualify as a period modification. I picked up a set for my Lotus as faux Minilites.

Bigfoot 7 was the truck in Roadhouse. -
Yep, I was incredibly lucky when I scored one for $43+shipping earlier this year. I don't know why they haven't reissued this kit for so long.

I've had better luck using aluminum craft wire, it's soft like solder but keeps its shine better while you work with it. You'll probably want 12 to 16 guage depending on scale and how thick you need the tubes. Here is an exhaust system I made with it. -
I rarely have trouble with the USPS, once I had something sit at the Greensboro NC sorting center for a week buts that's about it. My issues are always with the small independent operators, the story above was with Lasership.

GMC Pro Street Chassis
Fat Brian replied to olschoolkid's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There isn't really a good donor for a 2wd front suspension for those 1/24 scale square bodies so the Suburban frame is as good a start as any, though it might look a little under scale. -
Some kinds of model railroad grass looks like fine hair and would probably make a shag carpet effect.

I've had this happen a few times will small time shippers, even as recently as last week. My wife ordered some things just after Thanksgiving and once it shipped we watched the tracking, it went from New Jersey to Virginia then to North Carolina, then back to Virginia, then back to North Carolina, then to Virginia again where it stopped updating for almost a week. Now well outside of the delivery window we contacted the store, they were out of some of the things she ordered so we got a partial refund and what was still available resent. Then one day last week her original package shows up on the porch looking like they kicked it from Jersey to Charlotte.

The 2022 Cannonball Run Year of Birth Build Thread

That looks like a 60s model, in the 70s they got big squarish turn signals more on the outer corner of the fender and bigger taillights. -
Ideas for tiny racing seats
Fat Brian replied to Fat Brian's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok, I found a couple of things from the stash too. The seats from the 79 Pinto fit perfectly but they're not exactly racy but are more cushioned. Also the weird seats from the Surf Wagon might be shaped into something interesting. -

Yeah, that's hard to justify for just the seats, I really don't need the rest of it. -

Thank you for the measurements, those are exactly the right width. Is that pack still around is us it hard to come by now? -
Ideas for tiny racing seats
Fat Brian replied to Fat Brian's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you Bill for all the real world experience, that's going to help me a lot with this build. The passenger compartment is 38mm wide and the transmission tunnel is 7mm wide so I've got 15mm on each side to work with for the seats. The reason I wanted to replace the stock seat pads in this build is that it's getting prepped for off road racing. I would like a little more padding for the several thousand miles of this event. The Fujimi seats look like they might do the trick if they were lowered a bit. -
I need two racing seats small enough to fit in Tamiya's Lotus Super 7. They'd probably be a similar size to something that would fit in a Model A or 32 Ford. Ideally something relatively modern but without a lot of crazy bolsters like a NASCAR seat.

You're best bet is to make one from two of the 3408s in the Revell Kenworth long nose kits, the flat top, wrecker, and dump truck all have one. You can also usually find a kit breaker selling just the engine on ebay.
-
That would be insane, you probably couldn't keep it going in a straight line but it would be fun while it lasted.

I had to finish it, it was too fun once I got going to let it languish in the box.
