Reegs Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 As per Richard Bartrop in the Tempest Kit topic: "The Tempest is one I would like to see get the Moebius treatment. Too bad they've been told by their new owner to get out of the model car business." Say what?
youpey Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 I thought they were bought a year ago. I would be surprised but who knows
Richard Bartrop Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 From what I understand, they're still doing all the scifi stuff.
iamsuperdan Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Well that would be a disappointment for sure.
Mark Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Even if they are "out", they'll still be issuing already-finished or too-close-to-production-to-ignore variations on the Ford pickups and '65 Plymouth for a couple of years...
bobthehobbyguy Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Has there actually been an offical statement that Moebius is not doing carrs?
Daddyfink Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 I highly doubt that they are out of the car kit business, given how much has been invested into it. Pegasus has always been a big supporter of the Model Car scene and I doubt they will stop that anytime soon. So unless you really know something, I would not be spreading false news around.
Plowboy Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 ^^^ Agree. Everyone thought the sky was falling with the Hobbico bankruptcy. I'm hoping with Pegasus now owning Moebius, that the accuracy will improve.
Dave Ambrose Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 The Sci-fi model segment is growing. It might be the only one, but we'll see. The demographics for new modelers has shifted, and it's taking way to long for the hobby to respond to that.
Dave Van Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Moebius is now owned by Pegasus......but lots of projects underway last time I met with them. I did a good amount of work for them in the past.....things have slowed...yes....but not closed up.
Mr. Metallic Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 This was posted in the thread concerning the Nova that was announced a couple years ago. Appears as though Moebius is staying in the model car market for the foreseeable future... from this thread...
tim boyd Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Moebius is still in, and from what I understand will remain in, the model car kit business.....TIM

Heck, everyone was crying the sky was falling back in the 1990s... Tomy bought Playing Mantis for the Racing Champs diecast business. They wound up with AMT and had no idea what to do with it. Everyone was whining that they were going to scrap all the tooling for metal value! R/M was owned by Hallmark and was for sale... But we got better! ? At the time I was confident that IF there was a viable model car market, smaller and smarter companies would fill any voids. It happened then and continues to happen today.
thatz4u Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 I'm awaiting the styleside Effies, anyone hear of a release date yet????
Bucky Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 I pulled up a Pegasus website, and sent an email concerning the Moebius 1/25 scale car and truck kits. I sent the email to the admin's email address. It was returned to me as undeliverable, and the reason given was that the mailbox was full. Maybe I'll try again, later.

If this rumor has some merit, then IMHO it would be about who's going to to the R&D on anything automotive, but again pure speculation on my part. the only guy who can shed some light on this is Dave Metzner, the Moebius brand R&D manager. SteveG Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Moebius is not leaving the Automotive Model Kit market and any rumors regarding that are false. My workbench is plenty busy and there is much to look forward to coming from Moebius. I would expect some announcements this fall all goes to plan. -Steve

The longbed Styleside is next, should be out in a couple of months tops as they are pushing vendors for pre-orders to be in shortly after Labor Day.

Mr. Metallic Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Maybe an admin could amend the title of this thread so it doesn't perpetuate the false rumor?
stavanzer Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Yes, Please? This is how trouble starts. Baseless Rumors that soon become "Facts".
oldcarfan Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Is this the Pegasus that makes the aftermarket wheels and tires? They do some nice ones, though I wish they would add some updated and newer styles. I've got a box filled with Pegasus wheels and tires.

Some Factory Stock wheels and tires, along with maybe some wheel covers that were seen on the cars of my youth would get some bidniz from me!!
