I dig this one!

So do I. It's pretty much the look I'm going for, except I know my front end will be higher due to the kit front axle. I'm gonna try to get it down a little. But I will NOT have the front end higher than the rear, so it'll be level, however high it ends up, or with a slight bit of forward rake.

Also, the dark green is out. I really, REALLY like it, but I already have a dark green '55 Chev gasser, built from Monogram Badman. Thinking of trying to airbrush a nice craft acrylic maroon/burgundy I think I can make work, and if that doesn't work, Testor Arctic Blue (dark metallic blue). It'll be called "Evil Something." Looking for a second word that goes well with "evil." Evil Plan? Evil Scheme? Evil Dream?

How about the old standby: "Evil, Wicked, Mean and Nasty"? Evil Genius?

Evil Upheaval!

  • noun:   (geology) a rise of land to a higher elevation (as in the process of mountain building)
  • noun:   a state of violent disturbance and disorder (as in politics or social conditions generally)
  • noun:   a violent disturbance
  • noun:   disturbance usually in protest

Elevated, disturbing and violent - sounds like a good combination for a gasser to me! ??

I felt like doing a little scratchbuilding today - I’ve done a few box-stock builds lately and I wanted to design and make something.  Seems I’m always looking for axles for my hot Rod projects so I figured I’d make a Quickchange-style rear end that I can cast a few of for future builds.

Used some 8mm tube as a basis, and cut and shaped styrene sheet to make the main center section and then cut some parts on my cutter to match the design I had in mind:

Then assembled it and added some Titchy Trains bolts and photoetch:

Not done yet, but it’s fun to make a thing!  Needs some sanding and shaping to the styrene parts it’s a start anyhow...

Then I started messing with a drop-in replacement frame idea I’ve had for the new Revell 29 kits...but that’s a story for another day:

That's not bad at all! It just made my short list. Am also considering Evil Storm and Evil Beast. Thanks! B)

Nicely done. What is your plan for the axle tube?

Not sure yet...I’ve made it in such a way that I can use off-the-shelf aluminum tube or styrene rod to complete these to the width I need them, but I’d like to think of a good way to have tapered tubes if possible too.

I could just find a kit part that will work and resin cast those, but I like the idea of being able to add some metal parts to a resin-cast center to make it look a little fancier.  Guess I need to think about a lathe ?‍♂️?

Evil Weevil? Evil Eye? Evil Eye-ful? Evil Ways? Put it on the other end , and there's Lucretia MacEvil...

Spent some time on my pair of Jeepsters. Both engines have some paint on them and 8 wheels done and sitting in a pile.

I found that the pickup didn’t have a complete floor so I made one.  Look for my quick tutorial on making a floor mat.

It was relaxing and I’m feeling a bit better for it!

Not all today, but I accomplished quite a bit of material testing on this old MPC Charger body....... First I wanted to see if you could spray DupliColor Perfect Match over WalMart "HomeShades" primer (you can! It works pretty good, just slow drying.....) Then I needed to try out a clear. It's Rustoleum Acrylic lacquer "Crystal Clear"..... The clear turned out to be Very hot, leeching the orange pigment to the surface. However, it polishes out Beautifully! I'm going to try it on a body molded in white to see how it acts there.......

Evil Ways makes my short list. Also, Evil Stench, a vague reference to an obscure Sam Kinnison joke far too filthy to repeat here.

When I was a kid, there was a semi-"trashy" family down the street whose kids ran a couple of drag cars. One of them was a flat light olive-y green '55 Chevy named "Stagnant Water." It didn't occur to me until decades later that the flat green might have been cheap surplus military olive drab.

Jeepsters progressing slowly. Engines painted and ready to wire and add accessories. Right now I’ve got putty on the top side of the hoods. The prescored scoop cutout is ghosted on the top. Not enough to putty but enough to be visible on my finished paint.

Finally got this thing nailed together, with it fighting me every step of the way.  It's the AMT-ERTL issue of the old MPC '34 Ford "Slammer" dirt track racer, which is being re-issued soon.

Needs some tweaking and I may take more photos later.  We're having massive thunderstorms right now that chased me out of the basement.  I don't like being down there if the power goes out.

I made a mold last night and today tried casting some accessories for a Buick nailhead. They didn’t turn out too good due to some air bubbles. I think I made the mold opposite to what I should have... ie: the sprues  for the vent holes should have been added to the second half. Oh well, it’s my first attempt at delicate parts. I,ve done another pour, so we’ll see if it turns out better.

Got quite a bit done today over the span of the whole day. Tried flattening out the chassis plate on my VW (eBay started project) by adding small pieces in the center console to cause it to lengthen and push it flatter. I believe it worked enough. Got a second coat of Silver barrier on the body and it is in the dryer. Tonight I cleaned up flash off of interior parts and got a couple of the resin wheels cleaned up.

Later-

Yesterday's modelling day-

Got the interior parts of my VW primed and I did a bit more work on an idea of widening the fenders on a 84 squarebody GMC pickup, just for fun. Not sure how that's going to turn out. I bent the ends of the fender cut outs and added a strip on each end. The pieces are just sitting in place on the last photo. They won't flare out that much.

That came out pretty cool! You have WAY more patience than I ever had or ever will, my friend. Model on!

Just laid down a coat of Testor's Steel on the '65 Nova's exhaust system and fuel tank; this time happily I won't have to do so many flat black touchups. Also a couple days ago succeeded in grinding out the taillight buckets on the AAM '66 Skylark and installing the Acme Resin Casting taillight lenses. (Acme does nice work on these; their eBay name is acme_slot_carz.)

I cleaned the cobwebs and plastic shavings off the bench, put some tools and parts away, and set out the next sub-assemblies I need to address.

Gotta start somewhere. Maybe I can do a little actual "modeling" this evening.   B)

I worked a bit on getting the 4 cylinder to sit right on the Jeepster frame. Modified the motor mounts and moved the tranny mount forward. Onward to driveshafts and  exhaust.
