Oldcarfan27 Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Went to 2 major retailers last night, looking for Christmas lights and both of them were cleaned out! Same with a lot of the decorations. Never seen stores run out this early in the season before. I'm glad to see that despite all the news of doom and gloom, folks are spending time cheering up and enjoying the holidays anyway. Merry Christmas to all!
Miatatom Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Could be due to covid supply chain issues too.
Classicgas Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Or the fact they've been selling Christmas stuff since September and I'm not kidding.
Tom Geiger Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Probably both! Everything is slow now, mails are taking a long time due to Covid labor shortages and increased volumes with online sales doubling. And I’ve seen people posting to double your holiday decorations to cheer people up! My wife put everything up in our house.
TonyK Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Interesting as I haven't even thought of buying anything new this year. Usually the wife and I shop for a couple of new outside decorations but nothing this year. In fact I'm having a real hard time getting into the mood to put anything up outside but the neighbors are so that's making me feel guilty. Gonna have to do it.
TarheelRick Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Maybe they were put next to the TP aisle and were grabbed up in the latest Covid frenzy. I know COVID is no joking matter, but the way some people go over the top is somewhat ridiculous.
Rob Hall Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Not putting up anything outside...too much work. My neighbors on each side put up lights and displays (one has a Star Wars display with huge inflatable figures).
Mark Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Everyone is doing more stuff at home: from decorating to cooking. I went to BB&B yesterday looking for a loaf pan, to make a meat loaf. I got the last one they had, you could say the meat loaf pans went like a "bat out of hell"...
cobraman Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Wife went to Hobby Lobby about two weeks ago and cam home with a bunch of Christmas decorations. Then "lets go to Wallyworld " and we came home with more stuff for inside and outside. We have two 6x3 sheds that are packed with Christmas decorations 11 months of the year. My wife loves Christmas and the house looks like Christmas everywhere you look. Yes, even the bathrooms. Too much for my tastes but she puts up with all my Cobra cabinets so i keep my mouth shut !

A good marriage is filled with compromises. Absolutely! A while back my wife asked if I could help her sell some things on Craigs List. She brings out a bunch of expensive designer purses I had no idea she had. My first thought was, “You spent how much of our money on this?” Then in view of how much I spend on my hobbies I knew I couldn’t say a darn thing! ?
cobraman Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 A wise man knows when to keep his yap shut !

Did you go just for the meatloaf pan or other items as well.....cause if you only found one of the other two items, two out of three ain't bad! (wow....just showed my age on that one!)
Dave Van Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 My son is a manager with a BIG drug store chain. Their suppliers in China cut WAY back on sending product to them and all the USA.....more politics than anything. I needed to replace all my rope lights I use at Christmas.....but very limited colors and selection......local WM has NONE. I am sure there will be plenty Christmas 2021......
Lunajammer Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 FWIW, the US Great Plains if not the entire midwest has had mild temps and almost no snow. Weeks of pleasant conditions for stringing up house lights. I could see there being an early run on decorations.

This is what I’m thinking too, I’ve already seeing more lights than normal by Thanksgiving this year and I wouldn’t be shocked if some folks have gone overboard due to how the rest of 2020 had been.
1930fordpickup Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Over the last 10 years or so I have noticed that the stores also carry less and less lights and decorations. I was taught, go the day after Christmas to get next years lights . I have plenty, in fact I hung up several strings of the clear led light in my attic for lights.

OldTrucker Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Dept manager at the WM my wife retired from said they only stocked about half what they would normally have. A friend who manages a Big Lots said he only ordered about a third of what would be normal and he only received about half that order from the warehouse with a notation that was all he would be getting.

Had to save space for all the extra TP now that the hoarders are at it again. I guess that's what's meant by "white Christmas" in 2020. Edited December 8, 2020 by Ace-Garageguy
