JollySipper Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 Here it is Guys, my mild custom '57 Thunderbird from the AMT kit. We really need a modern tool of this subject. The frame for the front glass wasn't anywhere near fitting to the glass, so I just left the windshield "speedster" style. Thanks to those that followed the short WIP I did on this, and feel free to comment! 1
carbuilder1950 Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 I like this a lot. Mild custom, but just right. Nice colors inside and out, and I like the roof treatment with the scoop.
Zippi Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 I like the blue interior against the white. Nice job.
JollySipper Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 Cool! I'm glad you guys all like it.....
1959scudetto Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 NIce rendition of this old bird, Timothy. Your comment about the windshield and its frame hits the mail on its head - Look at this: " Mind the gap, please !" Maybe it will work if one cuts 1 or 2 mm off in the middle of the upper frame... ?

NAIL, of course... ... and afterwards reglue the 2 frame parts with epoxy or superglue to the clear part of the windshield.
Bernard Kron Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Tasty! Bravo! And thanks for the discussion on the windshield frame!
Bucky Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Beautiful 'bird! And I'll be sure to check the frame when I build my '57.
JollySipper Posted July 28, 2021 Author Posted July 28, 2021 Thanks a whole bunch, Fellas! 6 hours ago, 1959scudetto said: and afterwards reglue the 2 frame parts with epoxy or superglue to the clear part of the windshield. I was just looking at your excellent build, and an idea came to me.... You could just cut the windshield frame at the corners where the lower part with the wipers meets the rounded upper part. Then you maybe could move the rounded upper part back and down, rejoining it with the lower part? Just a thought....

Thanks, TJ - might have worked, but I have sold this one (and more than 60 others).
JollySipper Posted July 30, 2021 Author Posted July 30, 2021 Thanks for all the cool replies.... If I had a real T-Bird, it would look a lot like this...
bisc63 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 This is very nicely done. Great contrast between interior and exterior colors, looks SO sharp. Shows what a builder CAN accomplish with these older kits. Well done.
