I’d been wanting to build one of these - now I have no excuse! ?

Me too. I got one when they were last reissued. Gotta get started on it! B)

I seem to have been afflicted with Mustang Fever. Specifically, AMT '66 Mustang Fastback Fever. I just restored original two survivors, then finished up a new build of an AWB street freak. And then I saw this on on eBay and HAD to have it. It's far and away the cleanest "survivor" or glue bomb or "pre-loved" model I've ever bought. It's SO nice it doesn't even need washing. Can't really call what I'm gonna do to it "restoration" as it's already in perfectly original condition. It's gonna be more like one of my trademark diecast Snake-Fu jobs--Silver Sharpie the window trim, detail the wheels, sand the tire treads, and that's about it. If the mood strikes me to go nuts on it, I could paint the carpet and dashboard black. The icing on the cake is the original box, which I didn't have one of yet. I am a pretty happy camper today!

Definitely one that deserves only a very light touch, that's really nice.

First, I really like the Mustang above Snake. It looks great.

Second, in today's mail I got something that my AMT Ford C-900 tilt-cab tractor has needed for years. AMT's Haulway Trailer, Five-Car Automobile Transporter. I've thinking these two would make a great combo since about 1972. I bought and built the Stevens International version of the C-900 about ten years ago. I've been waiting for the trailer ever since.

That Mustang looks very nice !

2nd that Ray.  I have picked up some older gluebombs here and there but that one Snake Mesner looks to have been painted pretty well assuming it was done many decades ago - maybe a Pactra color.  I bought a fastback the Philly NNL but it may actually be a promo someone painted but it had a crack so it will need to be redone.  As I was too young and overseas when most of annual kits came out I cannot ever remember seeing one unbuilt for anything less than crazy money (in my opinion).  100% agree with Mesner these built ups are a great to get a rare kit without spending your kids inheritance.

Just got in the engineless version of the Gunze "high tech" Ferrari 250 GTO, for about the same price as the all-plastic versions go for now.

For those who don't know, Gunze did three versions of the 250 GTO: 1) a "high tech" version with an engine, chassis, and various parts in diecast material, with nice PE wheels and other bits, and a plastic body with opening hood; 2) the same kit with no engine and a non-opening hood, and 3) an all plastic kit with the open-hood body, but no engine, and reduced parts count.

I had the all-plastic version, and wanted an additional kit to do another American V8-powered hot rod. The only plastic ones available right now seem to be in Japan, but I found the mid-level no-engine kit Stateside for about the same money.

Though the bodies in these Gunze kits have some inaccuracies, I prefer the lines and proportions of the Gunze version to any of the other renditions...other than those oddly squared-off and too large rear wheel openings...a relatively easy fix.

Nice score Ace on the 250 GTO.  I did not know there were three versions.  It’s too bad Gunze did the  Daytona Coupe without and engine and with the metal chassis.  An all plastic kit with an engine would have been nice but it was not in the cards I guess.  If I recall the Cobra kit was about $50 retail which probably intimidated the average builder but that seems like a deal now despite the level of difficulty and the photo-etch parts, etc.  I broke down and bought the Cobra Kit at the Squadron Shop in Wheaton Maryland in the 1990’s as it was not a kit you would find in the mega toy stores.

I think you're right about the paint being Pactra. Testor never had a color like that and it's just a hair greener and much shinier than AMT Blue Fog Metallic. The only flaw in the paint is a run/metallic blotch right at the very rear of the left hand side, but it's not horrible--I think anything I could try to fix it would only screw it up more, so I'm leaving it alone. It is what it is--a true old-school survivor! B)

BTW, you need to thank me for the nice price you got for that Mustang lot you sold on eBay a month or so ago. It was sitting there at half its final selling price one minute out and I put in a very healthy bid (about what I paid for this one, IIRC) and was winning and then someone beat me in the last few seconds. So, you're welcome!

I got my 65 Fairlane Modified stocker from Megahobby today, and the box was crushed, and so was the body of the car. The roof is laid over to the side nearly flat.

The kit was poorly packed, in a box that was way too big with hardly any padding, to keep it from flopping around.

I hope they can make this right(quickly), I buy a lot of stuff from them.

I was thinking you might have been bidding. ?. I am just surprised how much these old kits go for given how simple they are.  Thanks for helping someone else pay more ? but it looks much better than the two I sold of which one was a resin copy with a hodgepodge of 66 coupe parts.  The box alone you got with yours is probably worth a lot by itself.  I did not include an original box I have with that sale (the 65 GT350 version) as to me the box art was cool but if I paid big $$$ for an unbuilt one I would be pretty disappointed as there is very little AMT did even try to  make the standard GT into what would pass for an accurate 1965 GT350 with a 289 HiPo and the side exhaust etc. etc.

Reminds me of a story.. a few years ago the morning after NNL East at 7am I was awoken by an irate phone call. I’m half asleep and a guy is yelling that we ran a den of thieves and his bag with purchases was stolen at the show!

I ask him what was in the bag..  an unbuilt 66 Mustang fastback like yours, and another Mustang kit.  I responded that we had it. He had left it on a vendors table and it was turned in.  He doesn’t pause, comes back shouting “and how am I supposed to get it back?”

I reply that we’d be happy to mail it to him. I get his info. No change in attitude or thanks.  I mailed it out on that week with other show packages. Never heard from him again.

The mailman brought the latest Scale Auto issue yesterday.  I'm sure the next MCM issue will be arriving soon - NOT!

Great! I should be getting mine around the first of August, then.

A few supplies from Michael’s, now they’re open again by us:

They’re not doing their usual 40% off right now, but I like those cords and wires for detailing and they’re not super expensive so no big loss.  Plus I wanted to try the Testor’s enamels - and they finally had some embossing powder that was actually in a useful color for me to use as carpet...most of what they stock is some crazy glittery concoction so I was pleased to see some plain-old black ??
