The 1970 Chevy and 23 whitewall tires came in the mail today. Love my whitewalls. And I went to Hobby Lobby and bought the truck with the coupon. Stopped at AC Moore seeing it was just a few building away and they are having a storewide clearance sale. But the models were only 25% off and at $40 a pop. The discount brings the price down to $30. No deal there seeing they have nothing new.  Same kits that were there 2 years ago.

Nice score David, both are great kits I always liked the 70 Chevy....

I also have a buddy who is selling me an AMT 60 Mercury Parklane for a good price. Just missing the windshield. I wonder if the windshield from a 60 Starliner would fit?

Nope, completely different. The only other one that should be identical would be from the AMT '59 Mercury.

Toy show day. Got a glue bomb JoHan '68 Plymouth cop car that seems to be missing only the lower grille, plus a '78 Dodge 2-door cop car missing a couple parts, for $5 (for both). Figgered the Plymouth would make good swap bait, I think some here are always looking for them.

Got a '64 GTO diecast for $15.

I've got the lower grille part if you need it?

NOS '63 Pontiac taillights. Looking forward to casting some copies, and unlike some people, I'll do both the right AND left ones tango_face_grin.png.54bf892dc1a2ac30b84e0576c9e3d803.png.

Let me know when you get them cast Chris, I could use a pair for a resin wagon I have.

I'd be interested in a set or two also for custom builds, if you're willing to deal.

Later-

This one came to me via the "Pay-It-Forward" thread found elsewhere on this forum:

Thanks go out to Chasracer for this one!

The following kit is from eBay:

I'll use it to kit bash the '69 Impala I have that's missing the undersides parts! That is, if I don't go ahead

and grab an AMT '70 Impala kit.

We'll see what happens - clear resin's a little tricky to work with, especially when it's dyed. Cross your fingers! ;)

I appreciate the kind offer. Just did some research and found out that the "lower grille" on those is just body-colored sheetmetal, not another open grille section like the "top" as I assumed it would be. Shouldn't be too hard to scratchbuild, certainly not worth the horrendous postage/shipping from Scotland, though as I said I do appreciate your very thoughtful offer. B)

Someone tipped me off that a book was available on the art and design of Bill Campbell, the man who did the artwork for Hawk Weird-Oh Kits, that inspired the manufacturers to make those plastic kits...................

photo-th.jpg

It's £25.99 here in the UK and $39.99 in the USA. There are 700 illustrations in this book. Some are of kits that are made and some that were too complex to make but the artwork is in there too.

Brilliant for those interested in Hawk kits. 192 pages all in colour.

The resin '66 Skylark landed here with a hole punched in the side of the carton -

Fortunately the inner box with the kit inside was OK. Hood's warped beyond use as I expected, but the rest looks OK. Taillight lenses are molded into the rear bumper (and were too small for the bezels) so I'll work around that with resin or something.

Chris, did you see the note I left you about the AMT Skylark on the last page?

Yes sir, duly noted! First thing I looked for on the body. (I could maybe try to straighten that hood but it would just curl back up, right?)

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe you can piece something together from the dirt tracker hood. (I forget exactly what's in that.)

Got this little stash for just about $60 at the swap meet in Waukesha this past weekend.  Not seen are a Scale Motorsports carbon fiber decal sheet and a Ricambi '73 Targa Florio winner decal and a Maisto 24th scale Saturn Sky Redline diecast. The bag kits are two AMT Penske PC-6's, and an AMT '65 Bonneville rebuilder body and interior.  The Monogram Miller Mustang was missing wheels and tires, and the Repsol Escort was missing some decals but else everything was complete.  Still couldn't find bumpers for my JoHan '71 Comet though.  :(

I have to give a big shout out and thank you as in the last week I've gotten parts for builds that I have in my head from three different members who asked for nothing in return. They are:

Bill (Bills72sj)
Vince (vintagedragcrazy)
Steve (Rancherosteve)
If I see any of these members with a post looking for something I have I'll be letting them know and sending it to them. I am also going to keep my eye on the two wanted sections  as I will treat these gifts as a "Pay it Forward" for others.

I got the kits yesterday and the book a few days ago. The kits have been started, The Vette and Willy's frames are painted flat black and a couple other suspension parts but the body's aren't. The truck is mostly painted but I have the hood, cab and interior in Super Clean to see if it will come off easy. Haven't decided if I'll (eventually) build these or trade 'em off. If I keep the hauler I will be looking for a KW or Pete cab/hood/interior for it.

The book was an exciting find as I have been looking for it for about 5 years. It is the book I learned to airbrush from about 45 years ago.

Again from good old ebay UK a used Monogram '29 Ford Roadster Pickup, just a few bits missing to make a whole one (a frontwheel & tyre) but two running board frames/two chassis/two bonnets/hoods etc, so plenty to build at least one and a half as soon as I find another front wheel & tyre!
