Although I was not lucky enough to know Harry as may did on this forum, I did respect his words of wisdom. He was quick to offer advice and proper criticism to those who wanted it. He was also an avid builder and his ability to reproduce lifelike features in miniature were well known. Add my name to the list of those fortunate enough to have one of Harry's models in his collection. I became aware of Amy's eBay listings and was fortunate enough to win one of his motorcycles he built. It had suffered from some minor damage prior to shipment. The mirror and one of the levers had broken off. I have since repaired those items and now have it in a case. Also, she did a wonderful job of packing the bike and the box that came with it. I'm pretty happy with my results so far, but I haven't tried to use it on very large surfaces. Like this emblem Or the polished edge of a wheel -
Revell instruction sheet up for the Gran Torino

OK, whatever. I see shades of grey paint and you see polished stainless or chrome. -
Revell instruction sheet up for the Gran Torino
THarrison351 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
So, this to me is a first. It's a stock car with hubcaps and they are not chrome plated. The stock hubcaps were polished stainless steel and a brushed middle. You can't do that with paint. The black and white photos on the instructions look terrible and they don't represent well. Here's what a new hubcap looks like: -
How much have you spent on a build?
THarrison351 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It would depend on what decade I built it. My detailed Bill Elliott Bud 11 car took two kits, aftermarket paint, decals, and various photo-etch bits and accessories. I built it in 1993 and it cost probably less than $70. Kits were cheap at Walmart, maybe $5 or 7 each. I think the decals were maybe $5, Tru-Match paint was less than $5, each one of those bags of Detail Master sets were less than $5. Each decade the price of kits went up a little, but right after 2010, wow! Double! and every year it seems a few dollars, not cents more. I'd say to try and build the same type of detailed car today (not NASCAR, because you can't give the '90s models away), I might have to spend twice as much, depending where the model was purchased from. -
Well, at least yours plans to sell them. My wife will give my son first dibs, then goodwill, and finally trash. She has told me I better not instantly die either. I need to sort and box everything before I pass. Besides plastic models, I have a pretty large collection of diecast from 1/64 to 1/18 scale.

Porsche 917-10, Matchbox, 1/32, L+M Donohue
THarrison351 replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Model Cars
Looks great. I had a whole bunch of these up until last year. I never built them and I felt I never would, because it's an odd scale for me. So I sold all but an MG TC because I built it when I was a kid and want to try it again as an adult. -
Hey, I built one with a color similar to that back in the seventies. Except it didn't turn out nothing near as good as yours and had the sick cylinder in it. Looks great.

Problems with Dust
THarrison351 replied to kymdlr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I buy my cases by the case, no pun intended, the same ones that Hobby Lobby sales, directly from the manufacturer. https://www.pioneerplastics.com/ It's cheaper in the long run. This was before I moved. I haven't put anything back out since I don't have a room to display my cars anymore. -
Your Dodge mini truck would be originally an MPC 1981ish D-50 which is really a badge engineered Mitsubishi truck. The pink version was released when AMT/ERTL had MPC's old tools. I guess Round2 has them now and we'll see this kit again. Maybe with the four wheel drive?

How does your family deal?

Yeah, go ahead and build them. You can't sell them for more than a buck on eBay. Believe me, I've tried

I don't know if they are still available, but when that kit was originally issued, you could contact Revell and they would send you a set of pad printed white walls. I got a set for mine several years ago.

Comfort Models, Ya Have One?
THarrison351 replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Back in the '90s when I was building all the time, I was crankin' out Monogram's and AMT's NASCAR kits every few weeks, and had a little production line for myself. I guess I've built around 20-30, but it's been so long since I've un-boxed them, that might be wrong. -
How many of you name your builds?

Well, I just finished transferring all my pictures to Fotki. Now all that's left is repopulating all my old posts. Yeah, what fun.

I was just notified by PB that to continue to use them for 3rd party hosting I would have to upgrade to their plus 500 membership at $399 a year. I'm only at 10% of use on my free account so I don't think I was using too much bandwidth. I've gone back and checked my posts and it appears all pictures are gone and replaced with PB 3rd Party Hosting has been temporarily disabled. So, I'm not going to pay $400 a year and I guess I have to find another website for my photos.
