Why do you build models?
TonyK replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like cars and racing cars so I want to build replicas of them. I also like being creative. Every box you open is a mess of parts and you get to see it slowly come together as a completed project which makes me feel good. Building models is relaxing (most of the time) and never gets old for me. I used to enter contests years ago which I felt drove me to doing the best I could when building. Won quite a bit and lost quite a bit but didn't mind losing when I could see what model beat me and maybe learn from that. I haven't done a contest in years and just enjoy building for myself. I joke with my wife that model building keeps the mind sharp by following instructions and problem solving. The finished models are in many display cases that I've built and no one sees them but me. Once in awhile someone sees them but you can tell they kind of scan them quickly and not focus on much which doesn't matter to me. Once in awhile I take the time to look at my finished models and appreciate all the time involved and think I did pretty good. Not an ego thing; just like that I can still build a decent model after all these years. -
I emailed Revell of Germany to tell them I really like the updated version of their Sprint Car and they need to come out with more and I'll buy every one of them. Was surprised to get a reply which sounded promising that they will release more but couldn't tell me what they would be. So it appears they're listening. Don't hesitate to contact them if you've got something to say.

Saw that first thing this morning. Enjoyed the Cream sound as it always seemed just a little bit different.

The sad fact about your picture is that was a time when us kids respected there was a car coming down the street and people driving cars respected the kids playing on the street. You don't see either of those things anymore.

B-17 Crash and fire at Conn. airport today...
TonyK replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Sad. My first thought from the headline was the loss of my favorite type of plane and then I read the loss of life and that made it even worse. -
I had an 11 day streak going killing a spider a day somewhere in the house. Walls, floors, kitchen sink, bathroom sink...... Had a couple days off and then killed 2 in one day. Read something a long time ago if you find a spider in the house they likely have been living there all along. Then I read that they come in from the cold. I believe the latter since it has become cold and rainy. And a few of them have been the fifty cent piece size. : /

Hobby Lobby Summer 19 clearance
TonyK replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have never seen models marked down and I have no idea where there is a "clearance section". From what I've read it could be anywhere. Only been to the Hobby Lobby a handful of times so maybe next time I should wander around more to see what I might find. -
Thanks for the info on the Vega. I recall it had no windows and the early 70's would've been what I was remembering.

Very nice work on this model. I share your interest to build a model of every racing series in the world. Since I like every type of racing it just came naturally to do this. Have fun.

I remember building one of these back in the day but swear it was older than 1976. Was there an earlier version or am I nuts? I'll get one of these when it comes out.

Sorry, I don't know where the driver is from. I've got several drivers in my stash box and it may be from Fujimi or Hasegawa or.......? Collected some from various kits over the years because they seem to be hard to come by.

About the Krylon paint....I always turn the can and spray until clear. I've soaked the nozzle but it doesn't seem to be the problem as I've grabbed a brand new nozzle from another can and tried that but it's the stem that's stuck. I'm taking thinner and dabbing the stem to see if that works. I think one of the cans is coming around. This problem has happened if the used can has sat for a few weeks or even a few days so not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thanks for the input.

Krylon paint cans. Lately I've had 3 or 4 cans that end up with clogged stems. Not the nozzle part but the stem. I always clear out the nozzle but when I go to use it again I can't get any paint out of it. Don't know what to do. Had it happen to an off-brand can too. Seems to happen after I've used about 1/3 of the can.

I remember building the short and long tail versions of this. Nice to see someone else build one and you did a real nice job.

Great! Always liked '40 Fords and really like how you made this one look so "stock".

This is an unknown resin kit that I got with a trade online many years ago. Had no idea what it looked like and was surprised how crude it was. I fiddled with it off and on for many years because it was so much work trying to make a decent model out of it. Used a Revell ASA chassis because the resin chassis was junk. Had to heavily modify it to get the body to fit. Managed to use the resin tires but had to do a lot of cutting and sanding to mate them with the Revell wheels. Roll cage is part of the resin kit and part plastic to make it fit. Then I made more work for myself attempting to fit a driver in the cockpit but I finally finished it. Nothing special but no longer have it sitting in a box.

The basic AMT kit with PPP wheels and tires added and a driver and various decals. Tamiya paint that came out way too nice. Thought about making the car dirty but just didn't feel like it.

Didn't realize he was that old. I remember when The Cars first hit the music scene and thought they had a different sound and I liked it. Lots of hits. Ric Ocasek was a talented guy.

I have never been to a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop. Recently my wife had a peanut butter doughnut at work and said it was great so I thought I'd drive to Krispy Kreme this morning and do her a favor and get a couple and grab something different for myself. The nearest shop is 10 miles from our house and the website said they open at 5 am every day. I arrived about 5:15 and see a note on the door they won't be open until 7. Really?! Nothing on the website. Never been there and I pick today to drive the 20 mile round trip for nothing.

70 years old. Really liked his music. Seemed we always put some of his songs on when we had a get together since it was upbeat and fun.

I always thought she was hot on the Mary Tyler Moore show. Her character was funny but I couldn't accept how they always had her longing for a date or steady relationship. The Rhoda show was great. She fought her sickness longer than expected and I was happy to see that.

Geez, you did a lot of research and then followed it up with a great build!

Revell Lightening McQueen Snap-Tite Max
TonyK replied to Joe Handley's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I like to build oddball kits once in awhile and your review shows me this is a decent kit to have some fun with. Thanks. -
Just found out Willamette Speedway has suddenly closed due to code violations. Seems they have been told for awhile to fix electrical issues and other things but haven't done it. This is a great dirt track and had the World of Outlaws scheduled to visit on September 4th. My son, grandson and I have been going here every year and I always get the same reserved seats but there's been some funky issues this year with my order and now I know why. Was in contact with World of Outlaws people about it and they were aware of the problems. Guess I might not see them this year. Bummer!
