  1. I get what you're saying, but isn't that the challenge of the build? If you say that's a box stock build, so only what's in the box...and styrene and other detail parts and supplies, then it really isn't a what's-in-the-box build anymore. Each CBP build-off has a theme, and each theme has it's own set of challenges for those who choose to participate. In this case, the challenge is to keep it box stock. And if someone can't handle that, then maybe this challenge isn't the right fit, and they should take part in the next one. Anyway, this one is your idea, so whatever you say the rules are, that's what the participants need to abide by. It's all good.
  2. Mike has it right! Consumers demand more stuff in their vehicles, and the various governments and safety groups demand more features. So even today's base vehicles will come standard with AC, bluetooth, power windows/locks/mirrors, cruise, rear camera, traction assist, touch screen stereos, a dozen airbags, etc. Heck on a lot of cars, heated seats, remote starters, and LED lights are now standard. Just based on that alone the cost is going up. Combine that withthe increased demand for more fuel efficiency, more recyclable and renewable parts, higher prices for steel and aluminum, plus the usually yearly inflation of 1-2% on a new vehicles, and it adds up to a vehicle $10k more expensive that it was less than 10 years ago. As an FYI, the 2019 GMC/Chev trucks have been announced, but won't be arriving at dealers until August at the earliest. The order banks don't open until mid-April, and production is currently scheduled to start in June.
  3. Wow, that's looking really good.
  4. I think I'd be in. As others have said, I'd liek to see our own choices of what to build, and no aftermaet parts of any kind. It should be literally, only what comes in the box. No styrene, no detailing, nothing. I think if we allow "a little" bit of scratchibuilding, then the lines become open to interpretation about what can or cannot be allowed. Box stock should be box stock.
  5. If mother nature would smarten up, I'd be able to get in the garage and start painting my entry. Ugh. Weather.
  6. Man, I need to get going on this.
  7. Nice! I'll be grabbing another for sure.
  8. I found four more boxes of these kits, so over the weekend enlarged my hangar. I'm going to starting some supplies and things inside, plus will start playing with weathering. I'm going to rig up a roof made out of that craft foam board, and will have some LED lighting, should make it better for pictures. For size comparison, that's a 1:24 F150 (diecast, repainted) parked in there.
  9. That guy is trying way too hard. Not sure what he's trying, but I'm pretty sure it involves a pipe.
  10. NASCAR drivers are sissies anyway. Can't even drive in the wet, let alone drive in the snow.
  11. Dang. You did a nice job on this! That paint looks awesome!
  12. Check my thread in the "aftermarket/resin" section. I too was looking for Plymouth Fury conversion parts for the Dodge Monaco kits. Found two options through Shapeways and EBay, ordered both, and both are a nice fit. Also ended up buying a Yodel Fury kit. So now I have three Furys to build!
  13. Now that everything seems like it's owned by Round2, would I be correct in assuming this is a repop of the AMT 1986 El Camino SS?
  14. Nicely done! I too have this in the stash. I want to start it, as I love the Esprit, but I hear so many horror stories about the quality of the kit, that I keep putting it off.
  15. Cool build! Try Shapeways. There are a ton of resin and scale accessories on that site.
  16. Even though I normally don't like these "novelty" rods, I want one of these, purely for the pop culture. Dig through the ditches, and burn through the witches I slam, in the back of my Dragula!
  17. lolz. Try going to any Michael's location in Canada. Dismal.
  18. Pretty stoked. Snagged some pre-sale tickets to see Alice Cooper in August. Lucked out and got great seats too. I've seen Alice numerous times over the years, the first time being 1990 on the Trash tour. THis time, I'm taking my kids. Daughter will be 11, the boy will be 14. My daughter loves Alice! Along with the usual dance pop nonsense the kids are into these days, she also plays the Trash almbum all the time.
  19. Build looks great. I love those monochromatic 80s cars. I'm totally getting one of these kits. I wonder how easy it would be to make it into an early Chevy Spectrum? My dad had one for a few years in the mid-late 80s, until it lost an arguement with a deer.
  20. I do both. I'd rather buy in person, but Edmonton has one hobby store, and it's a PITA to get to, as it's on the opposite side of the city from where I work. When there was a hobby store a few minutes from work, I did most of my buying there, with very little online shopping.
  21. Wow. That is some really cool technique there. Very surreal.
  22. We'll be undergoing something similar soon here in Edmonton. Our NHL arena was built back in 1976/77. Northlands Coliseum was home to the Edmonton Oilers until 2016. Hosted thousands of concerts over the years, rodeos, car shows, monster trucks, conferences, etc. Had been remodelled a couple of times to improve the facility, including adding luxury boxes. But, we needed something better. More seating, better sound, better everything. Rogers place opened almost two years ago, and it's amazing. I've been to arenas all over North America, and I have yet to be in one that comes close to this place. But alas, Edmonton doesn't need two 15000+ seat arenas, so Northlands Coliseum will be torn down. So many memories in that building. Heck, I got all nostalgic last year when a local bar was torn down. It had sat empty for a couple of years, but throughout the 90s, I spent a lot of time there, watching bands, playing there with my bands, hanging with friends. Was sad to see it go.
  23. THat article still makes me chuckle. And I'd buy a few of those. The Newhart Olds, The Alf Ferrari. And I've been actively hunting for the Magnum PI Vanagon for some time now.
  24. Listening to the radio this morning. THey're talking about that eastern US weather. Another massive snow storm, more power knocked out. Crazy stuff. Hope you guys are okay out there!
