Lets steer the conversation away from politics please. I don't want to keep locking threads and nobody wants to be put on moderation.

Just wanted to point everyone to the rules again. We have a lot of new members that may not be aware of the rules. We also have some long time members that are starting to experience selective memory when it comes to the rules. It is also important to note that there are separate sections for work in progress (WIP) builds and completed (Under Glass) builds. These sections are further broken down into various specialty or niche groups. Please read all the descriptions and section headers so that you can post in the appropriate section. As this is mainly an automotive (car/truck) forum, your model may not fit into one of our specific sections. If that is the case, it probably needs to go in the "Everything Else" area. The section about Model Cars Magazine, is only for questions or comments about the magazine. Do not post general questions there.

No more talk of Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny please. Lets put this train back on the track and discuss Atlantis Models. Thanks.

You can install an Ad Blocker if they are that annoying, but please remember that the ads are what keep this site running (and free to use).

Wow! Video of purchased collection!
Xingu replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Who cares? Apparently all of you do. It amazes me the things you guys decide to argue about here. Now I know you will say you aren't arguing, but are only pointing out the futility in it all. Welp, you are arguing, you have chosen sides and if someone from the other other side says something, you feel you must also reply with something. Everyone looking to get the last word in. I think that could qualify as arguing. Some of you are impressed with all of this, some of you are jealous, some of you think you are above all these peasant dealings, some of you are mad because you can't go cherry pick the good kits, some of you are mad because you are nowhere near Phoenix, some of you just don't like some of the people posting in this thread. Better the kits, even if most are common, go to a dealer than to the dump. This is a brick and mortar store that now has a chance to survive a little while longer. Remember all those threads where you were mad the local hobby stores were few and far between. Remember how you said you would support your LHS before purchasing online. This was your chance to stay "way to go, I hope he makes enough money to keep the doors open". Was that brought up in this thread somewhere? Did I miss it? -
Got laid of Thursday (after 22 years with the company).... Agreed to terms of new job on Tuesday... Turns out my old job was holding me back and my new deal will exceed the old one. They are even setting up a satellite office in the same area as my old one. Commute even stays the same.

I think I can speak for the other moderators here and say Dave does all the hard work that keeps this place running smoothly. We just tell you not to curse and to play nice with others and move the trucks out of the car section and....you get the picture. Thanks Dave, for all that you do here.

I never realized just how big these cars are.

Specific questions about the late 70s early 80s
Xingu replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
1. If you couldn't swim, you probably wore a life vest. 2. wore a helmet on my 3-wheeler, but a lot of folks didn't. 3. There have always been wood ores, not sure when plastic oars became readily available. -
This is all about the shady ad companies. Ad control is a full time job for Dave. Every time he fixes something, the ad companies change how they do things and sneak inappropriate or obscenely large ads back into their rotation. To blame the admins (Dave) is disrespectful. He has to walk a fine line of allowing ads into the site, to generate revenue, with keeping the ads under control so that they do not infringe on how folks view the site. Hopefully the magazine does well and we can start selling ad space here. That would allow us to control what is shown on the site. When using Google, or other companies, things are much more out of our control and easily manipulated by others.

Mike - mine is similar in size as this one. I cracked it open right after your post and forgot to take a photo of it or even reply to your post. Sorry. I was shocked at how small it was. It has no trouble mixing 1 oz. jars from MCW. Maybe having the mixing ball in the jar helps though.

Article says they made more, not sold more. Most of the ones made are exported to other countries. The article also states they sell more gas than electric in the U.S. by 3 to 1. The U.S. will be a tough market until they increase range to 1000 miles or come up with insta-charge or replaceable batteries, so long cross country trips are possible.

I think a lot of the commercials are funny and clever........then they show it to me 50 times a day and it gets old really fast.

That's not just any trophy, it's a thanks for participating trophy. I think Dave is looking at other available reactions to either add to or replace the default ones. The trophy doesn't really make sense, I would like to know the rationale behind it.

It's a heart that when you hover over it a menu of buttons flys out. If you don't see it, please list what device and operating system you are using.

May upgrade, change in how to share from Flickr
Xingu replied to 89AKurt's topic in How To Use This Board
I believe, with no supporting data, that sometimes these types of changes are for security reasons. It is easier to hide malicious code in some of the ways that information (photos) are shared. Again, no supporting data, but that is the first thing I think of. -
That is why none of the posts were removed, but at least have a little respect the OP of this and many, many, many, many other threads and keep discussions close to the intent it was created for. So by your reasoning Tom, it is OK for all the other members here to go to one of your, or anyone else's, Under Glass threads and post all about their builds. Even if it isn't the same make, model or by the same manufacturer as yours. We have to draw lines somewhere.

While not providing any nutritional value and probably not even potatoes, I really like McDonald's fries. That does sound like someone who doesn't understand how the drive-thru works. I don't blame them, you never know when it is someones first time doing something. Even something as commonplace as using a fast food drive-thru. The same thing happens on this board. People are always posting trucks in the car section. I always give the benefit of the doubt, that they post there because they don't know there are truck sections. ?

All, Somewhere along the line (I am not going to go thru the entire thread) you guys went way off topic again. I am not sure why we, as a group, can't focus on the topic at hand or start a new one when a random thought jumps into our heads, but the OP has asked that I remove the entire thread. I am not going to do that as there is still a lot of good information mixed in here. In the future, please make an attempt to remain on topic. These long threads, with long runs of off-topic discussions, are the scourge of this board. Folks do not have the patience to read thru all the "junk" or "I wish they...." posts to get to the information they are looking for.

I thought it was only certain tracks/countries that banned tobacco advertising. Most of the liveries were still very recognizable. -
I believe Dave has it set so you cannot see who reacted to your post. I believe it is tied to a function that we do not want to activate. We are still learning how the system works and Dave is trying to see if we can get things set the way we want for this board. I am sure Dave will make a formal announcement of how things work, if we decide to keep this feature.
