  1. FWIW. Dick Lang was the son of a Chevrolet dealer in Xenia Ohio who raced Corvettes in the late 50s and early 60s. The Internal Revenue Service challenged his writing off of his racing expenses as advertising for the dealership and they went to court. The court ruled it was allowable and thus the rapid expansion of liveries and sponsorships.
  2. Do you need a set of deep dish chrome wheels with dog dish hubcaps like the photo. Send me a PM and I will get them in the mail to you.
  3. I am impressed with the concrete, well done.
  4. Jim, Thanks for your replay. I do have the 1953 Corvette by PMC and your could be right. Jim and Casey, Thank you very much for the responses and yes I do remember now the tin chassis. It is a PMC then. Mystery solved. Gary
  5. Ellen, This had a one piece body, fairy thick. Thanks though for your response. Wish you well in the weather this week. Gary
  6. This is a bit of a mystery for me. This red plastic Karmann Ghia appears in a picture of my models in 1960 and I have no idea who made it. I lived in a small town with only one variety store in 1960 and of course there were no model magazines and certainly no internet to order something like this so I must have gotten it locally. The decals are from an AMT Trophy Series kit so they are no help. Unfortunately the model is long gone from my collection. Do any of you old timers here recognize what it is or have a clue who might have produced it.
  7. A little known fact, the wheels from this Scarab formed the basis for the Aardvark Corvette SS wheels, luckily Andy returned the originals. Also Jose Rodrigues did a full up engine in one back in the 60's in Rod & Customs Models, I think it was. Jose was an inspiration to many of us back then.
  8. This Strombecker Scarab was my first mail order model from Oscar Kovalesky at Auto World. Yes I still have it and I have resisted the urge to touch it. Photo below from the web. The body only was later released as a blister pack by MPC I think.
  9. Nicely done.
  10. Looks very good. Don't see these very often.
  11. Super nice models, thanks for sharing.
  12. I love seeing the oldies and what you have done with them. Maybe it is because of our similar ages.
  13. Looking good!
  14. Am I missing something, wasn't there a 64 promo?
  15. Beautiful saves.
  16. Thank you for posting these. I like your idea of leaving them plain as if they just left the factory.
  17. I like how you weathered the bed of the wrecker.
  18. It looks like an ambitious project but I am sure you can do it.
  19. Great idea and execution.
  20. Sweet build!
  21. A $3 Revell Thames panel van I want to convert to stock.
  22. Something that has worked for me is to pick a theme and a scale and stick to it. That worked well for me until I stumbled upon the cheap but decent diecasts. Now in my 70's building is more problematic as eyesight and dexterity are on the wane.
  23. Stopped by the Fredericksburg VA Ollies this afternoon and they were pretty well stocked. Mostly old Lindberg Dodge tilt cabs $15 though they fixed the price on the ones with chrome tank trailers to $24. Mercedes SSKs, Hot Rods, etc. and the rest were Revell pre-painted kits like the Corvette, Mustang, and Challengers. I bought the 2014 Corvette for $9.99. It is my first Revell prepainted kit so I am curious to see what it is like. Surprise, it is not painted at all but molded in red!
  24. I have long had a hankering to model this car and now you have picked up the torch, good on you! I like what you are going very much and look forward to seeing a lot more of this build.
  25. I don't like it...I love it!! Just what we have come to expect from you. Congratulations on an outstanding build.
