I want to share my appreciation to all for sharing your thoughts. My own story started at a drug store to buy dental floss and walking out with 4 Wellys and has morphed into Corvettes, Ferraris, Cobras, etc.

1966* Ford J Car - April Trials

The punch is so old it was made in the USA. -
Let me take a shot at your questions Jeremy. Just my opinion mind you. Category - Subject, decide on a subject or category like a type of car or truck. Select a scale: The more popular ones are 1/64, 1/24, 1/16 or all scales of a particular subject. Prices - Pretty much follow the size of the scale. The 1/24 scale now have risen towards the prices on kits now. Sources - The big box stores like Walmart, Target, Hobby Lobby, and some drug stores carry a small selection. The web like eBay, Amazon, Aliexpress have a huge variety of new and used diecasts. Brands - Welly, Maisto, Motor Max, First Gear, Hachette are popular brands. Jada is hit or miss. They tend to be larger than scale and have custom big wheels. Serious collectors go for the out of production brands like the Franklin and Danbury Mints which have the most detail and biggest prices. And yes, you can modify a diecast to whatever you want, unless you are concerned about resale value. I do it all the time by converting Ferraris with decals into race cars. Come on guys jump in with your thoughts. Opps! As Snake points out I neglected BBURAGO. They have come a long way since the old Italian made days, especially for Ferraris.

You beat me to posting Pierre. I used the punch on duct tape and will attach some clear lenses from the parts box and see how that goes. Thanks for the suggestions. -

I have the original chrome headlights which I am not fond of. I have the Modellers Light Lens Set which I could back with BMF but have not had real good luck with. Or try using the cut out photos which I have not done before. Any suggestions anybody? -

While waiting for some paint to dry I tired printing headlights from a photo in my files. It took several tries to get the size right and then to print on photo paper. They will look better once the headlight buckets are painted. -
I will be interested to hear the reason if you hear from anyone.

I really like the B&W. I doubt few people realize both auto mags and model mags used B&W photos regularly into the '80s.

After finishing off the tail piece. I decided the center and nose were not up to par paint wise. So into the brake fluid they went. Surprisingly the brake fluid took off the top coat of the Tamiya white paint but left the primer. An added benefit was that the side windows were loosened enough that I could pop them out and buff and Future them to get the glue mark out. Now the real challenge is to mask and spray on the dark blue. Mockup of the body. -
Very well done indeed.

The '64 AMT Corvette convertible kit has the side pipes and one of them has the passenger side dashboard insert with the gauges. Best wishes with your build.

Harley Earle 1963 Corvette In 1963 GM Design gifted to the retired Harley Earl, the former head of GM Design, a very special Corvette Sting Ray convertible. The Corvette received numerous modifications from GM Design including a new custom interior and sidepipes. The Corvette is easily identified by its independent side pipes which are similar to an exhaust first used on Larry Shinoda’s Mako Shark concept released in 1961. These attach to headers that go right through the battery box so the battery is relocated behind the passenger seat. Other details include 1965-spec chrome trim, body emblems, interior control knobs and four-wheel disc brakes. Inside is the biggest departure from 1963 production specification. The seats are upholstered in blue with white inserts and much of the switchgear is unique and was later used on the 1965 model. Earl’s car has a second instrument binnacle for the passenger-side dashboard which includes a large clock and accelerometer. Floor mats are fitted with a unique aluminum insert and factory air conditioning is installed. Earle, who was instrumental in the release of the Corvette, received his Sting Ray in 1963. It was originally painted red on red and was used by the factory until Shop Order (S.O.) 10323 was handled by GM Design to transform the car. Furthermore, the fuel injected engine was upgraded a 327in³/300 bhp engine. (Corvsport.com) The Franklin Mint 1/24 scale model Only 733 of this D4C LECC Limited Edition were made by the mint. This model has been a long time Holy Grail of mine and last week I finally ordered one from the web.
