I would practice them on something less important first. I know R/C paint is really hot, maybe even hotter than lacquer paint. It's designed to stick to polycarbonate plastic bodies and I'm not too sure if even lacquer paint sticks to that.

Terrible Box Art
Oldcarfan27 replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Reminds me of the distorted "flower power" series. If I was new to the hobby and saw these, I would have thought these were caricature kits 'ala' Deals Wheels or even worse Palmers. They sure would not inspire me to buy them for their contents! -
Looking for a better 77 Monaco/Fury cop car
Oldcarfan27 replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yodel kit has lots of detailing parts, but the kit as a whole isn't any better than the MPC kit. In fact, it's less detailed than the old standard we've been working with. No engine, basic platform chassis, room for motorization, farm implement tires, et al. To top it off it's too big to bash with the MPC kit. And finally, the price you'd pay for it would make it a poor substitute at best. -

Wishing everybody a very Merry Christmas!!

Is that Santas sleigh this year? Must be in a hurry.? -
I like the kit and have a few, but I never liked the way the wide tires visually rubbed the fenders. Were Wide Oval tires even available in '67? Seems to me they were a lot skinnier back then. Same thing with the '66 Fairlane GT

I'm probably wrong, but with all of the pandemic going on in New York this year, I doubt there's going to be huge parties going on in Times Square this December 31st. Is the ball still going to fall there, or is 2020 going to keep going on forever?

That should be printed up and given out as cards. That's a GREAT picture. Very cheerful!

Christmas Blessings to you and your family. May you and yours be happy and healthy through this stressful time. -
Buick Riviera '66 (resto of an AMT kit w/ scratch-built headlights)
Oldcarfan27 replied to Tommy124's topic in Model Cars
Glad you're taking the criticism all in stride. I personally like how you added the open headlights. Makes a common kit look more unique! And the color emphasizes all the body contours. I say well done all around. -
A snap kit with opening everything, lots of detail and unusual subject matter. What's not to like? Count me in. I'll even have to get a couple more for my kids, sounds like family-time-together fun! When's it coming out?

I never understood the manufacturer rationale for including standard b/u cameras and parking sensors in small, low profile, open glass hatchbacks but nary installing them in cargo vans, RVs, box trucks and small window sports cars. Seems counter-productive to me. Why not include the safety features on vehicles that need them most?

"Twister" Jeep Decals
Oldcarfan27 replied to Chuck Mols's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Looks like something that could be made with a couple sheets of blue decal or tape and cut into strips. -
Kir Review: 1963 Ford Thunderbird anual
Oldcarfan27 replied to RDean58's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Not sure if you are crazy, but the Tbirds were built right along with the Lincolns of that era. Sharing some major components, so it stands to reason that it's probably a bigger car than it seems.- 11 replies

Jeepster Kits -- Is This All Of Them?
Oldcarfan27 replied to Tom Geiger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Too bad they didn't stop the annuals at 71, then we would've still had the classic Jeep nose to this day. It's no wonder sales fell off for the '72, whatta beak that bird has! -
Chevrolet Titan
Oldcarfan27 replied to Sam I Am's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I vote for saving it as a road worn veteran. Not shiny perfect, but not junkyard bound either. I would've just mismatched the one wheel. The story would be - it got damaged when he "put the pedal to the metal and plowed through the great smokey road block on I95 back in '75". Just have fun with it! -
Ford Aeromax

That's pretty clever, I never would've thought of that! Simple and strong - they'll never break apart. BTW, how stupid DO you look? ?? -
Terrible Box Art
Oldcarfan27 replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And what designer at Monogram thought this series was a good layout, visually? The award goes to them for the most dull, uninteresting box art of the century. Cars, while built clean, have unflattering angles and show the kits flaws, front and center. Some of them even look like they're falling off the grey table they're sitting on. None of them look like real cars. -
Did you also clean the mold release off the body before you painted? Mold release prevents paint and decals from sticking.

Yeah, but will the Hasagawa kit include provisions for motorization and batteries?

It would be sooo funny if a magazine (or website) would put a big caption blurb on the cover "Porsche vs. Lamborghini in an all out Speed Contest!" And then show these. ???

Use the parts from the oft released 70s Chevy van and go to town! And while you're at it, use what's left to build a 4x4 van. No waste!

Glad you didn't give up on it. That makes the finished build that much more important. Great subject!
