Love it, very fun build. You should add a surfboard to the back. That would be a wild surfer car!

When I first read your post title, I thought you meant a full size Little Tykes ride on car. Now THAT would be quite an undertaking!

Great use of someone elses trash! Thank you for saving the planet and recycling. Or is it "repurposing"? Very cool idea!

Color looks very authentic and the redline tires are perfect for it!

Max 2K Clearcoat Gone Wrong
Oldcarfan27 replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
WORD OF CAUTION TO ALL! 2 part catalyzed paints are for professional use only and as such they MUST be used with a breathing respirator!!! If this paint dries hard as a rock on the car, imagine what it can do to your lungs if you breathe it in. And you can't use brake fluid to remove it, either. I've heard of people developing breathing problems, emphysema or WORSE? due to using these kind of paints without proper protection. And never spray them indoors or in an enclosed area. Be smart - be safe! -
Looks like a fun build. Keep posting more!

New model @ Michaels ( YEP )
Oldcarfan27 replied to shoopdog's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not sure, but I'm willing to bet that their stock went down because Revell was in limbo. Michael's is very heavy on Revell inventory, so when they were out - so was Michael's. I also don't know why they didn't replenish their shelves with other brands at that time. I personally don't need anymore S&H Torinos, 69 Camaros or Snapper Humvees. -
Max 2K Clearcoat Gone Wrong

If it's hard as a rock, can it be color sanded out? Making it smooth? Or is there other damage besides the texture, that I'm not seeing? -
Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Oldcarfan27 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just recieved this one from Ewetwo (thanks, Dave). Body and miscellaneous parts. As well as a rear bumper from Vintageslotcars (many thanks, James) Watch where this one ends up.... And after stripping off the layers of paint. Notice a big chunk taken out of the rockers due to thinning from the lower character styling line being sanded away and the side quarter strakes being opened up to one big scoop instead of two. I plan on using a reissue 65 to complete most of it and scratchbuilding missing things like the A-pillars, taillights, bug-eyed headlights, strake splitters, mirrors and other minor stuff. Stay tuned. -
Six Pickup trucks I'd like to see.

Alex, may I add these?... And can we invite Revell to play too? These are just a few that haven't seen fresh printing in at least 20 years, some even more! -
Steve, I gotta warn you before it's too late! DO NOT USE DUPLI-COLOR CLEAR COAT ON TOP OF ANY OF YOUR PAINT JOBS - EVER!!!!!! Not sure if the 8oz can is the same formula, but I bought the bigger 12oz can and it's a disaster. It sprays fine, lays out very smooth and makes the color coat glow beautifully. BUT IT NEVER COMPLETELY DRIES! On my projects, it stayed sticky for over a year. All the while collecting dust and dings that wouldn't come off. I tried 4 different times, thinking that it was the outside temperature, the humidity, I didn't shake the can enough and finally letting the sunlight bake it on a warm day. All to no avail, I had to trash the can of paint and strip all of the bodies and start over, which wrecked some bodywork and wasted a lot of good paint and hard work. I recently got a simple can of Krylon Lacquer spray from Home Depot and the first car I painted with it came out perfect! I found my ideal clear coat. PS, I use it on Dupli-Color automotive touch up paint and it's totally compatible.

Reissues of the same kit

Barris laid claim to a LOT of cars he never built. And withholding credit to those that DID!!! It's well known that he owned the Monkeemobile at one time - because of that, he claimed he built it. It was Dean Jefferies - Barris didn't have anything to do with it. There a others, so many in fact, that I now take his affiliation with any car as suspect. -

Seeing some of these pictures gives me pause, and a slow burn ???? I can't understand parents who let their little tax-deductions roam around the neighborhood wildly with no restrictions or supervision, who then wontonly go around DESTROYING OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY! And then the parent, who apparently was in close enough proximity to the carnage to to proudly take a photo of their little pride and joy - without any repercussions to the vandalism, probably able to happlily show to their other family members at holiday gatherings. Why would a group of individuals think this is OK and justifiable behavior? When I was a kid, I was taught to respect other poeple's things as my own. If I had been caught bashing up someone else's car or (on another level) spray painting all over someone else's walls - I would've gotten a BIG teaching lesson from my dads "board of education". But, I guess I'm "old skool". Peace out.

Painting white plastic white
Oldcarfan27 replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have a spray can of parchment colored upholstery dye for use on real car interiors. It's designed for coloring plastic (or vinyl). It looks authentic because it IS authentic. So no worrying if it's a close match. -
Problem with KRYLON paints
Oldcarfan27 replied to Bucky's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would say, just repaint the hood and forget the clear. It looks great as it is! -
To Ewetwo and Vintageslotcars. Thanks so much for the parts - exactly what I was looking for! Patrick

73 Cutlass Supreme conversion
Oldcarfan27 replied to fordf-100's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Actually, if you look closely, the whole roof, including A pillars is from the Monte Carlo. It's just that I didn't keep sanding the primer off of that area. I'm not happy with the boxiness of the roof. The Johan roof is so much more graceful. But when the whole roof is gone, you use what you can. -

Here's my Oldsmobile roof conversion so far. The body has little primer so you can see the mods. And the nose mods for a '75 -
I totally agree, to minimize the "teardrop going into the wind" profile that it has.

The return of Hemi Under Glass
Oldcarfan27 replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At over 2 tons stock, that's a pretty heavy, fat car to be trying to launch that high for any extent of time. I'm sure they'll lighten it up a lot for exhibition, they'd have to, but it's sure a walrus of a car compared to the original. Is it just me, or does it seem the new cars just don't have that same raw, muscular look that the old pro stock racers had in spades? -
Building A 65 Impala custom Advice Please?
Oldcarfan27 replied to scalepeter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you want it to still look like a 65 Impala and have it look like a real car, you should treat the the styling as if it is folds in sheetmetal not thick plastic. I have some glue bombs where the builder had originally intended to smooth off all the details for a custom and then gave up because the end result ended up looking like a used bar of soap. The stamped creases in the metal of a real car are there not only for styling and character, but also to add strength to the sheet metal. These features would be difficult to smooth off completely on a real car without having the body as flimsy as a soda can. My suggestion is to plan your modifications carefully, leaving some of the styling and character lines in for identitiy sake as well as making the end result look like the way a real car made of steel would look like. Best wishes.
