My first electric bike was a Volt fat bike that I bought online. Besides being a bit too big for me, it had the motor in the rear wheel and it didn’t have any sort of torque sensing ability. So with the power on, it really didn’t matter what gear I was in. I could pedal as slow as possible and motor sensed that I was peddling and it propelled the bike according to the power level I had set. I know some rear hub systems do have cadence and torque sensing abilities. Anyways, I sold it and bought a mid-drive Cube. This one has no throttle so I always have to pedal and it simply adds to whatever effort I put in. I like it a lot better than the Volt.
