  1. Very cool and very nicely built. The salt flats are where true hot rodding still exists!
  2. I do love altereds and this one is proving to be interesting. I'll be following along.
  3. Particularly the night setting photos could be passed off as full size Ferrari. Beautifully built and photographed.
  4. Thanks for all the nice comments! I thought the Tamiya maroon really suits the car.
  5. Thanks Jeff, I appreciate the comment. Funny thing is that matching the box art was completely unintentional but I'm glad you like it. I tend to enjoy the chassis and engine work more than the body work. Thanks for the nice comment. I actually ended up buying two because the first one had a slightly warped chassis which I then ruined with a heat gun. Thanks for your comment. I really like the Createx pearl colors. It took me a lot of messing around to get the hang of spraying them.
  6. Thanks Bill and Dave for your comments. The Minicraft in 1/16 caught my eye but I've not located one yet. I'll also keep an eye on ebay for the Monogram.
  7. Box stock with a wired engine. Createx pearl blue. The kit goes together without issues. I've been going for quantity builds this spring so I can learn from my errors and improve the quality of my builds. ? This one could use some BMF but getting an acceptable result eludes me so far. More practice, more quantity, build, build, build.
  8. This is the Revell Special Edition '32 Ford 5-Window Coupe 2'n 1. The paint is Tamiya TS-11 Maroon clear coated with Tamiya TS-13 Clear. My spray painting skills are still a rough work in progress! I find I tend to get too wet with my wet coats plus I need to take better care to eliminate dust. Lessons learned. This kit has LOTS of chrome. To my mind an excess of chrome, for example chrome plated disc brakes???? I stripped lots of the chrome parts and painted them with various Tamiya acrylics. The front suspension was rather fussy to assemble but with a lot of pre-assembly I sorted it out. Overall a satisfying build and most of all, fun.
  9. A buddy of mine has a 1931 Ford roadster in restored condition. I want to build a model of it for him. I've not been able to find a kit. Any suggestions would be welcome. Andrew
  10. Wonderful work! I admire your perseverance. Really glad you got back to this project and I will be following it. I am curious if you have recommendations regarding 3D printers and software based on your experience?
  11. Thanks Petski and stitchdup for your responses regarding pinning. I hope my question and their responses added to the pre-build info in the thread.......I know it will help my building.
  12. Is there a trick or technique to aligning parts for pinning? How do you get a hole located that will line up correctly with the piece that has the pin?
  13. Exactly my point of view though I couldn't have stated it so concisely.
  14. This one gets my vote too. I'm very impressed with how clear it dries and the bond strength.
  15. Slick idea Greg. I am impressed with how much it adds to the door panel. I have learned so much from these forums. Thanks for taking the time to share your ideas.
  16. I am curious what your thoughts are on the Tamiya Pearl Clear. Did you thin it? I assume you airbrushed it on. I have some but haven’t shot it yet so I am interested if it gave the sort of result you expected? Great looking hot rod! Excellent stance!
  17. It's a problem I've run into before but have yet to resolve; a paint color that is representative of what brake rotors look like. I'm currently working on the Revell '32 Ford 5 window high boy and the brakes are chromed! I stripped the chrome off and I've tried different versions of steel, flat aluminum, gloss aluminum.......but nothing looks right to me. Can anybody suggest a paint that gives a decent depiction of what a brake rotor should look like?
  18. I think you have produced a really nice looking model from a challenging kit! Nice color scheme. Look forward to seeing more of your work.
  19. There is the option of installing the doors in an open position but it's a matter of either open or closed and I chose closed.
  20. Excellent work!
  21. All your efforts to find an approach to painting that works for you has certainly paid off. Looks great! The detail work really sets this one off as well. Another excellent piece from Zippi's Garage.
  22. Thanks Mathias, it was a fun build.
  23. Thank you Larry!
  24. I based the color on an R4 on a Youtube video. Not an exact match as they weren't painted a pearl but close enough that I thought it looked good. Thanks for your comment.
