  1. If it was simply polished, especially with hobby polish, there won't be any wax in it. What kind of polish did you use? If you wish to keep the black, just wash the body in warm soapy water, scuff the white with 1000 or 1500 grit and wash again, then carry on as if you were spraying over primer. Mask off and re-paint the white. Clear coat is a personal choice. If your plan is to polish right on the paint, just lay more paint down to allow for some to be polished away. I very rarely use clear coat, and plan my paint work accordingly. I lay down extra paint, knowing I'll be removing some. I ensure that raised edges and curves have extra paint on them, as it it easy to burn through the high spots when polishing.
  2. Great looking Mustang, Charlie. Very aggressive. Lots of work in the fine details, and it shows. The colour choices are perfect. I enjoyed watching this one come together. Excellent work!
  3. Wow, this is spooky. Just last night I was wondering if a Jensen Interceptor had been kitted. Looking at the side profile photo above, the car's resemblance to an Avanti is striking. I'm guessing that must have been the starting point for the master.
  4. Don't know how I managed to miss this one. Very nice build of a very cool little car. I never knew this kit existed. I enjoyed seeing this build posted. Well done.
  5. Cool build! Great period style and nice replica, too.
  6. Nice work. Your build does the cool old Mazda justice. Well done.
  7. Well done, Josh. That side window work is a great detail.
  8. Lovely build of a beautiful car. That red really pops. It looks great posed with your other builds. Well done.
  9. That is my method as well. If Molotow is going to be used on the exterior of a build, I plan carefully when and how the part will be mounted to reduce the amount of handling. The bumpers on my Pantera project will be chromed with Molotow, then mounted late in final assembly without the Molotow ever being touched.
  10. That clutch is nuts!! This thing is going to sound wicked when you get it fired up.
  11. Very nice!! An excellent build of one of my very favourites. Smooth, clean work all around. I had searched for decals to do one of these builds a few years ago, but could find nothing. If Slixx has them now, I'll be ordering up a couple sets.
  12. Beautiful build, John. One of the cleanest builds I've seen of any of the iconic Mustang A/FX cars. Very nicely done.
  13. Stunning Merc! Beautiful finish and very clean. Excellent work.
  14. Looking good so far. I started a '55 Nomad gasser a bunch of years ago. I really should drag it out and get on with it. Perhaps I'll find some inspiration in this thread.
  15. Man, I'm really digging that colour.
  16. Very glad to see this one back on the bench. Those cam covers are stunning.
  17. Is that the original steering wheel in the photo? It looks particularly non-vintage.
  18. The Caddy is looking great. Nice lines.
  19. Very very cool, Claude. It sits perfectly. Great style. Love it.
  20. You are very welcome, Josh. Molotow that I applied a few years ago still looks like chrome. It seems that the liquid Molotow has a shelf life, but once applied it will retain it's chrome, if left undisturbed. It should be left to cure for several days (according to many users) and once applied, one should refrain from touching it, as it will dull. Some have reported that a dehydrator will make Molotow shinier and more durable, others have said the dehydrator dulled the shine. Clearly, personal experimentation should be undertaken.
  21. Josh, BMF is a brand of adhesive foil, whereas the stuff in your photo is Testors. I've not used the Testors product, but seems to me those who have, reported it to be inferior to BMF. BMF make several variants of adhesive foil; Matte Aluminum Foil, a Black Chrome Foil (regular chrome foil with a black coating), Ultra Bright Chrome, and Chrome. For this discussion, we'll ignore the Black and Matte Aluminum stuff. I don't know the full ancient history of BMF chrome, but it goes something like this; BMF produced a product called Chrome years ago and everyone loved it. Then a competitor (Detail Master?) made a product that was purported to be brighter/shinier than BMF. BMF responded by releasing a product called Ultra Bright Chrome (they still sell it, but it is an inferior product). Meanwhile, they still sold the regular Chrome. About 12-15 years ago BMF regular Chrome went through a formula change that was unpopular. They quickly corrected this by reformulating again, and called it New Improved Chrome to avoid confusion. It had retained this name, and this is the good stuff that until recently we have known and loved. Now this stuff is has been replaced once again by a product called Chrome, and once again it appears to be an inferior product. I do not know if this is just a Covid related blip in the supply chain, or if good BMF is gone forever. I dearly hope it returns, as I have 1 1/2 sheets left to do me the rest of my model building years. I love the stuff. I use it for masking sometimes, too, but that's going to end. As for Molotow, there is some real promise there, especially if something can be found to clear coat it so it can be handled, without losing its chromeyness. Someone reported a new clear coat in another thread this week that may be effective. The problem that seems to be developing regarding Molotow is it has a relatively short shelf life. After a year or two it seems to lose it's ability to provide a good chrome appearance. Buying more than you will use in a couple years may be money wasted. I bought a couple pens and a 30 ml refill about three or four years ago, and they worked well, but now seem to be just shiny silver. I'm till experimenting with this, as the problem may be with me, but a couple others have reported the same thing. I haven't tried airbrushing this stuff yet, but some are getting very promising results.
  22. Very interesting. I've been meaning to pick up the Monogram kit since it was reissued, but have yet to do so. But the Hasegawa will be a nice kit. It's now on the 'want list'.
