Those who love rebuild old model kits
charlie8575 replied to Nova-ss's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, that lets me out! That said, I'd certainly watch with a lot of interest. Charlie Larkin -
This I agree with as a matter of principle. What some of those guys do deprives the rest of us from a chance to make something uniquely our own. Charlie Larkin

Those who love rebuild old model kits

I do a little of this, too. Slowly, like all my other projects. I wonder if this would be a good sub-category for On the Workbench? It seems to merit enough interest. A rebuilder interest board...hmmm. Charlie Larkin -
Excellent job. I second the request for a resin trans-kit. Charlie Larkin

I want this. What an amazing, grotesque, wonderful piece of machinery! Charlie Larkin

Wow, I didn't realize a bird-strike could do THAT much damage?! Charlie Larkin -
Seriously? She's on that View show, isn't she? That explains everything- they're all completely insane. Charlie Larkin

Steve, this is a '66, but the caning appearance and placement are very similar. http://www.mcecars.com/viewInventory.cfm?invID=695 Charlie Larkin

Crosleys are awesome. Do you have one, Scott? Charlie Larkin

Very nice job, Richard. Charlie Larkin

The vinyl top looks a bit wrinkled? Other than that, very nice job. Charlie Larkin

Interesting, I think a few of my friends may have gone out with her relatives! Charlie Larkin

What scares me, Bill, is just how right you are. In addition to all my other projects, I'm presently authoring a class I plan to pitch to some of the colleges around here, which combines a bit of philosophy with the work of W. Edward Deming. I'm hoping to get at least one or two business departments to give it a shot. And it is behavior like this that I intend to address as part of this, because I truly believe Dr. Deming would be horrified at how his gentle, intelligent, thoughtful system of making work and its products better, has been perverted into a money-grab by so many short-sighted, dim-witted, unscrupulous charlatans who have no qualifications at all to run a business, much less major corporations which, if mismanaged, could spell huge trouble for our entire economic system, from stability of work to economic growth, to other businesses that rely on these businesses and their employees, to tax revenue. New to Airbrushing, What went wrong?

I agree that it looks like a distance problem. You might have also, as you noted, been in too much of a hurry to cover the parts. Strip it and try again. I might suggest using Testors enamel cut with lacquer thinner over Plasti-Kote or Dupli-Color primer as your learning tool. They're not too expensive and you'll get a good feel for how the airbrush works. Charlie Larkin -
What a remarkably weird car. It's wonderful! Very nice work, Harry. Charlie Larkin

Excellent work, all. Charlie Larkin

That color mix is superb; I'd say it's just about dead-on and remember, also, the batch control was a lot less precise back then, so give or take a shade is good. The hash marks at the lower rear should be foiled. Yeah, it's a pain, but it makes it look all the much better. Charlie Larkin

Excellent. You even rigged posable steering? That's pretty impressive in and of itself. Charlie Larkin

I wasn't seeing the mismatch on the gray? Whatever, this looks fantastic. Next time I see the Mongram or Revell (whichever it was) Aerotech, I think I might grab one of these. I always thought it was a kinda neat little experimental car. Quad 4- great engine ruined by cost accounting. Charlie Larkin

The cloth and vinyl in tan indicates this is a '66 above. Here's a quick overview of the interiors for '65. No color photos, but it'll give you an idea. http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/DealershipDataBook/1965/65_Polara_Custom880_Monaco0002.jpg Charlie Larkin

Blame Bob Frias and myself. Somehow, I got to reminiscing about New Bedford and my lingucia addiction (Portugese sausage) and kielbasa got introduced sideways by a third party. Kielbasa is a good seller around here, too. We have a decent-size Polish and Ukrainian population. Maybe we'll inspire them to do decals for a packing company. Charlie Larkin

Tim, I found the '65 interior shots very hard to find, but I saw a few '66s, and that wicker was definitely the natural cream-beige color. I would assume, then that the '65 would be about the same. I got a pretty good deal on a MIB '66 this summer, and I've been doing a lot of digging on these. Really neat cars that zoomed to the top of my want list. Charlie Larkin

And I don't even have to dig that deep! But I absoltuely hate disorganization. Weird, I know. This is a brilliant idea. Matt, seriously, you could sell those. I'd recommend putting it on a lazy Susan race on a slightly-larger round piece of Masonite, painted to seal it. Charlie Larkin

I've got all of their brass cars. I might build them next year as a mega-project of sorts. Looks good. Charlie Larkin
