    T'rantula

I like it with the black engine and wheels
  3. hmmm ... January ... good thing I saw this. ok upfront ... the body, now sitting in a flat black is begging me for some One-Touch clear as I've given up on applying an gloss black paint. it's going to stare me down one day .. on a table between bench and paint booth/stairs
  4. Maybe the end of this build, with parts stowed till a home is found, but please don't forget emtertaining us so much with your build process! It has been a learning and enjoyable journey!
  5. FYI, Alclad is available in spray cans.
  6. A couple months ago I got really bored driving my 1.5 year old BMW X1. I only got it for the 4WD to get me up my driveway in the snow. Every time I was at the BMW/VW/Audi dealer I would stare at the new GTI's sitting there. So, on a day with some snow I took one for a drive ... up my driveway. It went right up and even had summer tires on! That was it ... I had 5 Porsches and two Infiniti G Coupes and miss having a driver car, so BYE-BYE BMW, the new non-drivers car. I wanted 4wd but the Golf R is the only Golf with it and with only one per dealer, it's already spoken for. The GTI is SO good, though .. are you SURE this is front-wheel drive? I haven't felt any torque-steer since getting it. It has all the comfort doodads and feels SO good driving. Think this one will stay here awhile. Already have winter tires and wheels ...

I got a small Road Angle resin shift knob as the special gift at NNL East ... coincidence for you to post this one
  8. ... and fender skirt. I like that the blue color accents the custom touches . he REALLY wanted the side pipe to exit at the wheel well edge ... must have cursed the model company for making it "too short"

    49 Mercury

It looks like a garage hide away ... now up on wheels and can be cruised as the body gets done. nice!
  10. I seem to remember Scale Motorsport being down from Don.
  11. That is amazing!
  12. Three cars I had when new and would have a blast restoring those! Some of my favorite annuals.
  13. I was going to ask about the gauge bezels, but now see they are Al tubes ... wonderful way to do this .. filed away.
  14. This is WAY too classic to restore! Should go on a shelf like that ... the paint job says it all.
  15. This piece has bumps and not pits. Filing away you comments on pitting. ah Bill ... glad you recommended using the drum sander ... was my thought and it IS going to be done.
  16. Beautiful ... the car and your photos in the garage,
  17. Recycling is alive and well at Model Cars Forum! And, in GOOD hands!
  18. Sounds like a Model Car Retirement, not only from, to. Welcome to the forum.
  19. That IS unusual .. and you're doing a bang-up job on it! Lots of curves on it .. looking great!
  20. I do like the idea of sanding the back away. It seems to be around .04 or so thick and a few strokes say the metal is fairly soft. I would also be able to get the raised areas around the turn signals away. Mounting pins are directly behind the turn signals. It would give easy access to file down the rough surfaces. With Steve's paint suggestion on top, it may come smooth this way. Lets see if I can talk myself into all that filing .. the grill WILL look better for it. I really appreciate you all thinking thru this with me. Good suggestions.
  21. Its rough enough that it would be in the resin, though resin would be easier to smooth. I love the casting in metal. I could just polish it to a chrome luster if it was done without the texture on it.
  22. yes .. not too worried about that flat area. The sides going down to that are the area I need to smooth.
