Model Train Show - offending the purists
Dave Van replied to iamsuperdan's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I love the gritty city look........my layout is set 1955 or so......a diner I built... -
I use the old 90's era AMT NASCAR kits for the rear trailing arms.....you can do the same with the front suspension from those kits. If you want to go super easy....trim off the torsion bars and add a small dia plastic rod from the lower control arm (at the ball joint) at a 45 degree angle to the lower radiator/frame support.

Cool! -
Thankfully in a free economy we get to pick what we spend money on. Would I prefer a 99% PERFECT kit??? YES!! But it comes down to personal choices.....buy or not. As I said if body is good, corrected suspension....I'll buy a few. Another great thing about a free economy is ANYONE can make a better product and out sell the inferior. thx

There should be sheet metal 'crush panels' in those gaps around the rear chassis. I'm not a apologist for JR but if the body is 95% correct and the chassis suspension corrected I'll give them a passing grade. Running a hobby company (two of them) and working in the kit biz....I KINDA understand.

O scale is MANY things........there is even a group that models 100% scale everything including wheel flange which means your track MUST be perfect perfect and you have to make a lot of stuff. (they use track a scale 4' 81/2" gauge for track....even 2 rail O uses 5' established in the 1920's) But much of O 3rail has gone 'scale' for everything but track. The 3 rails is a holdover from when Lionel ruled the world. The level of detail and size is matched the 2 rail O scale guys. In fact many of these $2000 locomotives cone with wheels for 3 rail track or a set you can swap out for two rail track......everything else is the same no matter 2 or 3 rail. It's confusing for sure. The only thing more confusing is 'G' scale with it's MANY ratios and 'scales'.......that is a can of worms!! -

O scale 3 rail hobby today is MUCH more SCALE oriented than TOY oriented. Folks in O 3rail have no issue spending $1500 on a single loco. I am a scale runner but rely on older models I fix up as I can't pay the $15--=2,000 going rate today. This is one of my favorites......PRR S-1 loco....almost 4 feet long! -

Being a model railroader longer than a model car guy...(trains set at 3 years old.....I was a old 5 before models came in) I will say there are what we call 'rivet counters' that might be called grumpy.......but overall it's a 'do what makes you happy' hobby. O scale 3 rail is tough to keep 'scale'. 'O' varies in scale between 'scale' and traditional......very few 1/48 scale vehicles are made because 1/43 dominance. I love them all......... My fellow West Virginian Joey made this video of his layout.....a super guy and never grumpy.....O scale narrow gauge https://youtu.be/b3cM6sBOAK8 -
Isn't it just the promo in kit form???

Could a '41 Ford Coupe come out of this ?
Dave Van replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Real car parts sellers like Carpenter group the 41-48 Fords together as the share many components. I know from my 1/1 parts buying!!!! -
Those Robotech kits were molded by a Japanese company and packaged by Revell....so doubt it...
