1961 Mercedes Benz 190SL - Revell with a few modifications
David G. replied to 89AKurt's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wow Kurt, you got quite a lot of work done in the last session! This is always one of my favorite parts of a build, when it all begins to finally come together. Everything looks great. BTW, I noticed that the battery looks like it has four cell caps. Is that an eight volt system or some type of German battery configuration? David G. -
Nice color combination and detail work. That came out sweet! David G.

Hello Everybody! I started painting the interior with Tamiya Light Gunmetal for the steel floor plate. I liked the "steel" seats so much that I wanted to get a photo. After several layers of masking and paint, here is the basic interior color scheme. The directions don't call out one specific color for the seats as there is no detailed representation of the interior in the comic. The colors suggested art "Flat Black, Flat Dark Blue, Flat Gray, even Deep Red or Burgundy." I chose to go with a dark red. Given that this is a comic book representation of the Batmobile, I wanted to add a little color but not go overboard with it. I think I'm happy with my choice, I'll know for sure once the figures are painted and seated. That's all for now folks! Thanks for taking the time to look and always feel free to offer a comment, question or opinion. David G.

Wow! This one has been on quite an interesting journey. Nice work on it so far, I like the sneaky fender work. It should be great when it's finished. David G.

Wow! You don't see many of these, either as models or in the real world. Nice work on both of them, love the color. David G.

Hi Steve. Thanks for asking, unfortunately it's been almost exactly a year since I last worked on it. Every time I think it's about time to dust it off again, I get a great idea for another fun project, and well, I'm sure you know the rest. David G.

Scratchbuilt flatbed

That is a tough call. What I usually do when facing such a dilemma is look at lots of online pictures of my subject. Doing that usually helps to inform my decision. David G. -

Nice work Steve. It's a really cool concept and very well executed. It reminds me of those custom cars that companies would have built for use at trade shows. I remember seeing this somewhere. I think you posted a shot of it in one of my WIP threads, the '59 hearse conversion that I've been working on for what seems like forever. David G.

Thanks Dirk, I appreciate your comment. Thank you Dave. Yeah, I saw this one early and grabbed it. It was a little over priced but it was also the only one I've ever seen. David G.

Thanks again Chaz. It's funny how the public perception of their music has changed over the past 40 or 50 years. They've gone from "What in gawdz name are you listening to?!" to "Oh yeah, they're the ones with Ozzy, right?" Sounds like a great idea, if I still lived in the Youngstown area, I'd plan to stop by.
