  1. Mom & Pop hardware stores! The wife bought a dining room cabinet from a local auction site but the hardware was missing. She called the manufacturer who sent her the wrong parts. She went to a big box hardware store who didn't carry what was needed (the screws are metric and go into a device buried in the hole to lock them in place).....and we don't need a box of hundred (need 30 of one and six of another). I took the instructions with the parts call out to that store. They said it would be a couple weeks (no problem...it's been sitting unassembled for 'a while'). They called Monday and the wife has been assembling it this weekend. Gotta stop some place and get those guys a gift card for helping end the nightmare.
  2. These worked the best for me. One was spotted in the bathroom so I made a quick trip to Ace Hardware and got some that only opened about 45 degrees and I think the mouse just laughed at them. I got two packs of these from Lowes and Mickey & friends have crossed to the other side. My mother used to have a beauty shop and has a mouse issue so the LL used the metal traps. Sometimes they would decapitate but sometimes the mouse would walk on the trap to get the bait triggering it and it took flight.
  3. Didn't know this existed until it showed up in a Facebook post for a local toy store......sealed inside
  4. Tonight.....Pork rib meat marinated in Korean BBQ sauce with mini peppers stuffed with a mixture of sour cream/cream cheese and bagel seasoning Tomorrow......Chili made from ground chuck with fire roasted diced tomatos and Filipino tomato sauce
  5. She is four months old and wanted to play with everyone that passed. Mrs. Claus said she would be a good "Max' for the Grinch!
  6. Did you go just for the meatloaf pan or other items as well.....cause if you only found one of the other two items, two out of three ain't bad! (wow....just showed my age on that one!)
  7. A vendor had one at a toy show last month (I think it was a 76) but he wanted $115 for it.......double eBay price and may make the AMC reboot trifecta (with the Pacer and Gremlin)......hard pass!
  8. Another victim of the pandemic is pet pics w/Santa. My teenager and I did them the last couple years for one of the local rescues (from which we have a dog) at one of the chain pet store, but they aren't doing them this year. My oldest has a four month old Golden Retriever that I was determined to find one that Santa wasn't behind the sneeze guard like the salad bar. Thank you small town America as we found one this a.m.
  9. In Ohio, that would have been classified as a 'truck' or 'non-commercial' so the state can make the extra $15 on the license plates.....I had to pay that on my Dodge Rampage. Ironically, the 2003 5,500 pound, V8 equipped, Dodge Durango was classified as a 'wagon' and has regular car plates.
  10. Home made enchiladas. Several years ago, my mother got burned out on the traditional holiday meals and started doing other foods such home made lasagna. The wife and I are continuing this on with our boys. There is a local caterer that offers a great turkey dinner with all the sides, but between the wife's diet and the boys/myself picky eaters, we won't eat most of this and or we'll have left overs til spring. My brother in law used to deep fry a turkey but that has gotten expensive to do one bird once a year.
  11. Just another reason customers prefer the internet shopping versus in person retail..... Wife went to the grocery store to grab a few last things and then stopped at Dollar Tree for other things. Arm full of stuff, she went to the check out and the lady said she was on break but the other register was open (line was two people deep). The line wasn't moving so the wife looked up to see the cashier was playing on her phone. She put the merch on the other counter and told the manager why the line wasn't moving. Local toy/collectible store had a kit on their Facebook page so wanted to see if they still had it before making the drive. (Actually you can call or text them but they never answered the text so I ended up calling). I said told the employee what they had featured on their Facebook page including the date, time and other items posted. He said it wasn't them. Um no, I'm looking at it on-line right in front of me. He put me on hold (more likely never bothered to move from his position) and came back in 20 seconds he doesn't remember putting any of those items out. The store is four aisles and I'm pretty sure I know exactly which one these items would be in.
  12. The teachers for both of my boys made it a point to compliment the wife and I at school events how polite and respectful they are. I tell them you have to put your foot up their 'posterior' on occasion.....they don't come programmed that way!
  13. We have one in my hometown. As a child, the family joke was White Castle only closes one day a year for the annual changing of the grease (this was well before many places were open past midnight or open 24 hours).
  14. Ironically I was (and still am) a solid "C" student in English......I feel the need to prove that everyone once in a while. It really comes to light when I type something in Word and it's so far off it doesn't autocorrect.....and when I send through the spellcheck, it doesn't offer suggestions!
  15. Wife's Durango was 'low' on anti-freeze so I went out and filled it with my fourteen year old in tow. I gave a quick overview of what I was doing and why..... Just another one of the life skills that was taught when I was in high school and have gone by the wayside......but I did learn how to calculate the sine, cosign and tangent and great British authors of the 1800's!
  16. If there is a local antique mall, see if any of the booths have contact info posted. A couple in my area have info posted if interested to reach out. If they can do a quick flip, a few will pay a respectable number. I know one guy that used to have a sports card store that had a booth in one of the local malls and would offer a whopping $1 - $2 for bobbleheads that he sold for $10 - $15 but would trade for like retail values if it was something he wanted or could sell quickly. I found a good trading partner at another mall out of town.
  17. 1/18 Revell VW......haven't seen one with the up-top
  18. 1/18 Revell Wiesmann GT. Never knew this car existed until it was featured on one of those How It's Made episodes. Built in Germany using BMW mechanicals
  19. Do it today as the 40% sale is back on and it's free shipping (orders over $50) 'til midnight.
  20. Yesterday, went to feed the furry foursome and noticed blood on the floor by Turner's bowl. Usually, he and Bear plow throw their food like Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest but yesterday morning he was the last to finish. Called the vet.....got a 1:30p appointment. He's a Jack Russell mix so he's a known biter....his profile card at the vet has HWC (handle with care) boldly highlighted. Limited inspection, he has some polyps by a couple teeth so he got an anti-biotic and anti-inflammatory/pain pill. They ran blood work as he's 12 years old and they called this morning at 8a and he is cleared to go in for a teeth cleaning/full dental exam. He must be part cat as he had dodged death MANY times..... 1) Dropped at a shelter in a crate on a hot August day.....at the wrong door! He survived 24 hours in 90 degree heat 2) Spent a week at the rural shelter and his time was up. The day he was to be put down, a rescue took him 3) He escaped from the rescue and missed his first week for an event...he was missing for several days 4) NEVER had an coyote in the 50 plus years I've lived in this town and one got into the yard. Turner was the little guy that picked the fight and he's thankful has Aussie sister as she saved his *** as the other three dogs came to his rescue 5) We had a bad spot in the fence and never had an issue until he and his Husky mix brother felt the need to re-enact the scene from Secret Life of Pets where Max and Duke go strolling down the street. They cross two busy streets during the morning rush hour and we live near two schools. Neither like loud noises and they took the route I least expected them to take.
  21. Stopped by one of the local stores stores today. Plenty of Escalades, Camaros, Corvettes and a couple tankers.......and one cashier. Who would imagine a retailer with Christmas toys busy in November.....
  22. Then you didn't see what Maren Morris......I said it looked like she just got out of the pool but the wife said nighty and cover up. Dignity went out the window! The tributes to Mac Davis (Reba & Darius Rucker) and Charlie Daniels (Jason Aldean) were very good. We were wondering if the bow for the fiddle player would last The Devil Went Down to Georgia.....
  23. I'd leave the wife and kids Christmas morning for Reba.....
