  1. I have never had it affect plastic. It just strips the paint and leaves the plastic alone. Occasionally it will leave a ghost remnant of the old paint or it won't strip the paint depending on the composition, but the plastic has never been messed up yet.
  2. I finished one of the Monogram versions this year. One of the few kits I finished, but that's another story. Anyway, back to my point, I would love to see an update. I've thought about buying this kit as well and look forward to seeing how it turns out!
  3. Maybe Moebius or someone will take pity on us and kit one. I bought an AMT rebuilder a few years ago for an obscene amount and also one of ModelHaus' resin kits.
  4. I have a lot of unbuilt kits. I'm well stocked up on Model As, Ts and Deuces, and I've got 57 Chevies that I'll never build, so now I only buy stuff that really speaks to me. That leaves out a lot of the current kits. My last purchases were the Pinto wagon and both the AMT and the MPC Pacers, also the Duster and Volare. If they were to reissue the Monza, Chevette, Pinto hatch or other 70s-80s kits I'll be buying them.
  5. You can also use the HL coupons at Micheal's, so if nothing else you can go there.
  6. One theme that might be fun for a future contest would be an Alaskan Highway Cannonball. South to north, Dawson Creek, BC, to Delta Junction, AK. 1400 miles.
  7. I had packed my entry away knowing that I was stuck for time. My work hours changed and I started working on a Master's degree in the last few months and I am drowning. If there is an extension, I might be able to finish it.
  8. The prices have definitely soared in comparison to my pay. I can't blame the companies, they don't seem to be exactly drowning in excess cash. I've bought relatively few kits these last few years. Partly because of prices and partly because of family needs. When I do buy, it's from ebay for something vintage or I use the HL 40% coupon if they have anything I'm interested in. The last local hobby shop in Austin, King's Hobby, gets any of my money for special orders.
  9. Given the option, I prefer old cars, mostly sports cars. On the other hand.... My wife and kids are here today and driving me crazy, just kidding, because of these safety devices. Lapses of concentration happen to even the best. They were hit by a distracted driver at 70 MPH. They were gravely injured, but survived. The car's engine ended up well under the dash and the left front wheel was where the door should have been but the car took the worst of the damage to keep them alive. I don't let myself think about what would have happened if they had been in an older car. I love my old cars, but realize as I get older how much things have improved. My dad used to talk about 50s cars. He said when they were in a wreck, you just hosed out the blood and sold it to someone else. Now if only they could combine the style of the old ones with the safety and reliability of the new ones.
  10. Looks good! Now if only AMT will tool up some parts to turn their Chevy into a GMC!
  11. Welcome to you! I have a couple of your models from way back. nice stuff!
  12. I had a 1989 Escort GT. I had just joined the Navy and needed a good new car to drive across the country. I went in to buy a Mustang LX SSP and the waiting list to get one was 3 months. I drove off the lot in that little Escort GT and never regretted it. It had a little more power than the regular Escort. I drove from Texas to Virginia at 75-80 MPH many times and it never gave me any trouble. I've started watching Craigslist on the off chance I find another, but they are getting rare!
  13. You've talked me into it! Or at least not talked me out of it... I went out and bought this AMT Pacer kit and while there I got the MPC Pacer as well.
  14. I can't see the pictures, but I'm sure it looks great. Just curious. I am wanting to order one of these from Flintstone, but I don't want to spend all the extra for the Fujimi donor. Any thoughts as to whether one of the currently available VW kits might serve as a donor? I have several TeeVee Buggies. It wouldn't have the wheels, but I'm thinking of doing it as a kit car Spyder in Magnus Walker style or something like that so it wouldn't matter so much.
  15. Gorgeous! Which kit is this? You done good!
  16. That is so cool. If I had the space, (and the money) I would collect some of those old gas stations. My grandma had one of those in her garage that I would pull out and play with.
  17. Chris, I come back to this model every once in a while. I really like what you did there. I may have missed it, but have you ever done a feature on the background you use? I think a lot of us would like to know how it was done.
  18. I went by the LHS to look for the AMT Pacer kit. They didn't have either it or the MPC Pinto wagon, but they did have the MPC Pacer so that was good.
  19. I'm just guessing but I bet there are two reasons. One is that street drivers don't usually wear helmets so without the front bars there is nothing for the head to hit. The other reason might have to do with modern cars having air bags in several places. Maybe the bars would interfere with these?
  20. Beautiful truck! Revell we are ready for this body style F150 to be reissued again.
  21. It's looking good! And I wish we had an Ollie's in Texas. All we have is Big Lots and they haven't had any kits for ten years.
  22. My dad still has a CB in his 1986 Toyota pickup with the twin antennas, Lear camper shell and the rectangular bumper mounted fog lights. He's stylin'!
  23. I'm about ready to see this and the Firebird and the four-eye Mustang kits re-released. I'm thinking pro touring and all that!
