We’ve Lost Another Legend. RIP Bruce Owen!
Tom Geiger replied to foghorn62's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I read his family’s post on Facebook last night. Very sad news. I was in the audience when he won GSL. He was so proud! His family was with him and it was evident it was a highlight of his life. You couldn’t help but be happy for him! -
Cable TV… I was a hold out years ago. My kids were complaining that they were social outcasts since they weren’t up on the cable only shows. Then 9-11 happened. We lived in the NJ burbs within smelling distance of the tragedy. All of the area TV transmitters we’re on top of the World Trade Center so everyone’s TV went blank, without any estimate of when they’d ever be able to restore the signals. That got the few holdouts on our street to sign up for cable! I have nothing to whine about today. I’m sitting in my daughter’s yard with beer in hand and granddaughters running around. Life is grand!

Very cool and great results from a fidley kit! On my bucket list to own a 1:1 some day. I don’t know if folks know modeler Dave Carnevale. His 1:1 blue Manx was recently destroyed in a garage fire. Very sad!

Hmmm.. Love this shot and how the body looks stripped. I’d Dullcote it and call it done! ?

Cousin Bo's '67 GTO....yes, the much hated MPC kit
Tom Geiger replied to roadhawg's topic in Model Cars
Great story! I’m a sucker for nostalgic family car stories. These are the episodes of our life that made us car guys! Model looks fantastic. Is cousin Bo still with us? It would be fun to see his reaction. -
I need info on the AMT/R2 Dodge Van kits.
Tom Geiger replied to Oldmopars's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Dodge is a long wheelbase van. I don't have one handy to measure. The van was issued annually from 1971 through the early 1980s. The perimeter of the roof would remain the same, but they did redo the roof ribbing as it changed on the 1:1s. Here's an album of the versions: https://public.fotki.com/modelcitizen/model_cars/my_model_car_box/dodge_van_kits/ -
Wow! Did t realize it was that long ago! Pallets are still in the hallway and in the fricken way of my construction deliveries! Half joking I told their guy that they need to dust those boxes once in a while!

What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw this fart can Beetle in matte gray. I hadn’t seen one of the new Ford vans with a work body. Pretty sharp! I have a renovation going at work. Received the ceiling tiles this morning! -
Let's See Some Glue Bombs!

Thanks Paul! I went to TROG in NJ a few years ago. That was a photo where the car was faster than my camera.. no car! So it was a natural for a background! -

Since Mr Mopar showed a Revell Model A pickup... Before... a dealer friend who knows I love to restore the Monogram Model A's handed me this one in a plastic bag. An original Blue Beetle. After - Restored, I did use a few parts from the newer Monogram Blue Bandito release, but all the parts unique to the original are on it including the Cadillac script valve covers! A $5 kit that some kid built, but never finished. I did like the army green body.... A wise $4 purchase. There was some charm in the crude chop some kid attempted. It just had to live again! And here they are today! -
My user name? My parents came up with it! Before I was born both grandfathers wanted the first grandchild named after them.. and my father didn’t want to name me after himself because I’d suffer Junior syndrome. I was named Thomas because it was totally neutral! I narrowly escaped being Alfred, Hubert or Little Artie. It’s a good thing.

My round trip commute is 12 miles. (Na Na Na Na Na! ?). I live in the Philadelphia burbs where traffic regs are merely a suggestion. This morning I’m on the road leading to my office building. There is a one way tunnel / underpass and I have to stop as the oncoming traffic is closer, thus has the right of way. Suddenly there’s a blaring horn behind me. As I start driving I see the front of a Chevy van at the rear bumper of my little Hyundai… I turn into the office complex and he follows.. I’m thinking I have a road rage psycho. I park and he parks. I look over and see it’s my electric contractor’s van and one of his goobs is the psycho. He looks my way and gets a sheepish look on his face as he realizes he’s been tailing the boss. I get out of the car and gave him a good tongue lashing. His boss wasn’t on site today, but he will be aware!

Agreed! Both of these would be enthusiastically purchased by everyone from stock, custom, drag builders right through Low Rider fans!

Neat VW and story! I’m working on my dad’s old red Beetle, using the Round 2 Spider Man kit.

Very cool model! Per the comments on production… remember that the Mustang was a runaway success and Ford was having trouble keeping up with demand. They wouldn’t have had manufacturing capacity to add a wagon to the mix. Also this was the 1960s. Perception of wagons was different then too. What’s cool today might have hurt Mustang sales then.

The gold is far superior to the red. Good call! Beautiful models!

I don’t know what the life of these is supposed to be and of course those of different brands and quality. Are you getting paint on it? Originally I noticed I was and moved it.

Back in the day before they merchandised everything to death! As a kid I would’ve loved to have a Speed Racer model or Hot Wheels car but none was available!
