Me too. I like to insert a piece of styrene rod into the tubing to support it a bit, but you can do it without, just work a little slower. Use a good blade, square it up to the tubing, and just slowly roll the tubing with the blade, as if you were sawing it. Using nearly the full length of the blade (long strokes) seems to work better for me. This tends to taper the end inward, as others have noted, so after you cut, you'll want to ream out the end to open the diameter to what you want. I usually just use another Exacto with a worn blade, this actually shaves a little of the aluminum along with the "burr" from the cut, leaving a nice scale thickness. you can use any number of pointed objects to flare the end if you want; I've tried pencils, nails, bamboo skewers, and more with satisfactory results. Use what you have!

1974 Duster 'Rescue & Rehabilitate' Project 14.02.2021
bisc63 replied to 1972coronet's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Good start so far; something satisfying about seeing a kit saved and brought up to higher standards. The pics make the rear wheel openings look small from some angles. Has anyone measured against a real car to verify? -
Yeah, the side trim is a bit exaggerated in height, and the roof is a little flat and thin, but I'm going to try and address those issues with another build. Also going to transplant a more accurate floor pan/frame unit, as Monogram just re-used the frame piece from the 57 hardtop kit, so wrong gas tank area completely. Monogram chassis piece too over-simplified on these anyway, that's why I didn't post pics! Otherwise, with careful paint detailing and a few scratch-built details, and a BUNCH of foiling, it looks presentable.

It's a great motivational build; goes together quickly, looks neat! Thanks for the kind words.

59 Buick Camino resin

I've been hovering over the trigger to buy one of these, it really has a cool look. I envision an early seventies custom hot rod, jacked up in back just a little, to give more clearance for big meats on Cragars. Wild candy paint with ribbons, bubbles, flake!? Will be following your approach with much interest! -

Ha! I thought I was the only one that might think that. I was going to recommend keeping the red inner fenders, as it has that mid-60s GTO red plastic inner fender vibe! -
Very good looking Chevelle model; very tasteful color combo. Looking forward to seeing it finished!
-
Looking good; that interior has a nice, realistic sheen.

Even cooler, and more accurate as I understand. Good find; I've been watching for one forever and a day...

'68 Poison Dart (Revell Hemi Dart) 24HR Build
bisc63 replied to Starliner Kustoms's topic in Model Cars
Nice build; love the stance and attitude of this car. -
Will be following. I've got one of these in the stash. I may graft the AMT front fenders to it, though, the Monogram kit is wonky in the front/headlight area. Can't wait to see your results!

Nice model! Is that the Trumpeter kit? Any issues with it?
-
Cool! I need one of those!

Red is nice for that body!

Old Monogram 1/24.

Yeah, this Monogram kit has it's issues, but once built, nobody's going to mistake it for anything but what it is. I like building the Mon. kits, and I'm going to build at least one more and try to correct a few proportional problems.
-
Older version, early 2000s maybe? Still have 2 or 3 in the stash. Need to do a proper red one...

Don't you love making that discovery? Happens all the time with aircraft models!

Looks like I forgot the exhaust tips! Oops. Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Fun little kit, had to change it up a little, though. Went with a flat-ish finish, I think it was Krylon Dark Bronze or something like that. Interior is red pleats with white trim. Parts box wheels and tires to be different.

Probably my favorite of Monogram's 1/24 kits, along with the '64 GTO. It's just the quintessential muscle car to me.
