AMT Chevy Silverado
espo replied to Rusty92's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Great looking work creating a real work truck. A detail to think of in the future if you haven't already. The door trim states 1500 which is a half- ton and this is obviously a 3500 or 1 ton. You have a lot of bigger things you're working on now, but when you get to the final trim point this is something you may want to remember. -
That's going to look cool.
-
The foiled trim looks great. With all the factory trim on these they really look good for what was considered a low-priced car of the day.
-
That color should help show the body lines well.
-
Great looking stance.
-
I like the stance and the color you mentioned. The wheel well openings are so large on this maybe some larger diameter wheel & tire combination if you can find one you like. The wheels and tires you have now look good, just to small of a diameter on proportion to the opening.

HIROHATA MERCURY

As my mother once said, "You can tell the men from the boys by the size of their toys". I guess this would apply to how heavy your wallet is as well. -
Polishing base coat before clear?
espo replied to rightrudder's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I also wouldn't use any type of polishing compound before spraying a clear coat. I know some of the polishes say it will not interfere, but after all of the other efforts to achieve the perfect finish why take the chance? The only thing I might add would be if working with some heavy metallic colors. Depending on how the metallic in the paint it may be an idea to give the finish one last smooth coat of color. As long as it dries smooth, and level then go to your clear and you should still have little or no surface problems before the final polishing. -
HIROHATA MERCURY

The restoration of this car has been covered in a few magazines. Since the Monterey Concours has invited iconic Hot Rods and Kustoms to appear in the Concours they are finally being recognized for what they are and the history that goes with so many of them. The background on many of these cars are just as interesting and sometimes even more intriguing than the Classics shown on the grass at Monterey. -

great looking replica of your son's truck. The bed box looks just like the 1:1. -
Beautiful looking Nomad. I like the subject and especially the way you built this. Great color choice and paint finish. Clean trim and nicely detailed engine.

I got to see this model on display at the K.C. Slammers swap meet & show a couple of years ago. As nice as the pictures are they just can't capture how good it looks in person. I still keep a picture on my cell phone of this build.

Great clean looking Bel Air.

Great looking reproduction of an old family heirloom. Always fun to build something with an interesting past.

Wind. I feel your pain. Had to go looking for the cover for the BBQ that sits on the back patio.

The AMT Studebaker Avanti, the Revell Starski and Hutch Ford Torino both had nice Ansen Sprint style wheels. They are chromed in the kits but that is easily change.

1963 Nova wagon w/ U-Haul trailer*** U-HAUL trailer updated***

Great looking wagon. I like the showroom look and the 6-cylinder engine. Going to have to have one of those trailers. -
Great looking paint work shows the body lines well.
-
Really clean looking build.

AMT also put the chassis information on their models as well. They only did this on Ford products and may have had to do with any licensing agreements they had with Ford. This is only my opinion, but I think this may be a Promo. My reasoning is 1. The size of the axels and the lack of optional ride heights. 2. The engine plate that looks as if it is a filler instead of a complete engine as you might find in a kit. Either way it's cool looking, great find.
