Tamiya Panel Line Accent Colour , cleanup
espo replied to rob1957's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Per the instructions on the bottle : "To remove excess, wait until it has completely dried, then use a cotton swab dipped in X-20 Enamel Thinner to wipe off. " I guess I've been doing it all wrong as I just use a little water dampened Q-Tip and or a bit of Kleenex as soon as I see a run. I would say just do what ever works best for your self. -
That's what's known as a "learning moment".

1962 F100 rebuild
espo replied to mchook's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
You just mentioned what I was thinking about. The painting of the letters didn't cover the inter raised portion, just part of the raised flat part. Years ago I worked for a short time at the local Water Company and one of the trucks was a base Unibody F-100 just like this kit. -
Great looking GTO. Considering the age of this kit it builds well and you have an option to make into a hardtop.

Great looking color combination and the foil looks great.

Sure looks like the real thing. Great engine detailing.
-
The paint and all the intricate decals are beautifully done. Great chassis detail also.
-
I like the headliner idea. Looks like a great way to add visual appeal to the interior.

Glad you both like it. California had used several different brands of cars thru the years. I have only been able to find one picture on line of a '50 Olds CHP car and it was a short roof body, kind of a bonus I guess.

The paint looks great.

Tell her I'm sorry about the mistaken gender. My crude remark was meant to be tongue in cheek about male dogs that like to lift their leg on shinny wheels. I've had it happen all to often. They can destroy the chrome on a chrome wheel.

That looks like a neat tool to have.

Many years ago X-Acto offered metal files in various shapes that may work. The problem now is that a lot of normal shopping places are closed. I remember seeing some at HL the last time I was there.

Thank you for your comment. I'm redoing the lights on the package tray since they're just big enough to hit the rear window.

That Pup is getting a little close for comfort. You know what they say about male dogs and shinny wheels. Hopefully he just wants to go for a ride also.

2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Kit
espo replied to martinfan5's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I was basing my comment on the wheels on a '98 TJ that we had. Now that you mention it ours was a Sport model and not the Rubicon. Ours had the 15 inch "Grizzly" wheels. I have wanted to build a model of that Jeep but ours was a hardtop and the body sides are shaped differently. I might be able to overcome that but there would still be the removable hard top to do. I really enjoyed looking at your build and think it is really well done. -
2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Kit

Very cleanly built Wrangler. You mentioned the wheels seem to small, remember they only had 15 inch wheels at that time. Are these the kits tires ? They look like a nice upgrade from OEM's. -

You might consider making a painting mask of the letters or even if you can somehow cast them. Then sand the area as smooth as posable and then cot a filler panel as thin as posable to cover that area. Then use either the mask or casting to recreate that part of the bed. Or just cut a thin piece of plastic to cover then use a larger Blue Oval decal to complete. -
Monogram '29 Ford Roadster PU

All of the colors you have been playing with look good, but the two clear Reds are my favorites. The Red over Blue is the most interesting to me anyway. Reminds me of a color they used to refer to as Brandywine. -
25 Window VW/Porsche Microbus

Nerve wracking cutting the clear plastic. The Surf Board looks great. Not sure how you're going to mount it because of the roof. I have seen some 1:1 surfers that hang them from the roof inside the vehicle. I don't think that would work here but I'll bet you got something in mind. -
I had the same thing happen on an old AMT Valiant that I was striping. The plastic became so brittle that it would just crack and break when ever I handled the body. I was trying to make a model of a friends car so it really bothered me.

The Grim-Pala - 70s inspired Street Freak build for NNL East
espo replied to OldNYJim's topic in Model Cars
I followed your build on this. Besides the chassis and suspension and body work, the paint work is the big standout on this build. -
I agree with everyone else on the stance, that really sets the tone of any build. I like the paint, it is such a Mopar color. Interior looks nice also.
