How do you all paint in the humidity
espo replied to jchrisf's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You might consider a Dehumidifier for your garage. The humidity in Kansas at certain times of the year, much like the rest of the mid-west, can get pretty brutal. I have my booth setup in the basement, known to be very damp in this part of the world. The part of the basement is opens to the back yard and is where all the mowers and yard tools are stored as well as the sump pump. I also have a dehumidifier in that area and even in the middle of the summer I have zero problems with paint that isn't my own fault. -
I like the raised 4x4 look on this one. I wonder if they might have used an Explorer chassis under this. Many years ago I lived at Pismo Beach Ca. and spent a lot of time in the sand dunes there. It was not uncommon to see a normal passenger car that someone had set on a Blazer or Broncho chassis.

Wasn't there a presidential candidate a few years ago who's last name was associated with this discharge thing ?? I know I know this is shaky ground but it just came to my demented mind.

The first one looks like it might even have a 4x4 chassis under it. The second one shows all the signs of willful abuse.

Great that your son got to meet Brad. While most of these drivers are very gracious with their fans, I still think Richard Petty will always go down as the #1 guy with the fans. He was always one of the most approachable drivers I have ever met.

Great looking Pacer. The "woody" option was not that common but with the darker body color it really looks great. Nice to hear the story behind your build.

Very nice clean looking build. Always liked the bright colors for that era MoPars.

Not sure of your method for cutting out the skirts. A method I have used to stabilize the plastic body involves a scrap piece of 2x4 clamped to a work bench and use that as a backing for the part of the body you're cutting on. This makes it easier to hold the body with one hand and it supports the body from twisting or cracking as you work on it.

Looks like a solar clothes drier in the back seat. I love all the stuff you have been making for the interior clutter.

Model Master has a "Hemi Orange" spray can. They have an OEM line of paints that would be about as close as you can get.

I would sit down with someone at the local PD and explain just what has happened. You might want to take any documents you have also. The Officer can't legally give you legal advice but they can give you suggestions as to what options you may have. It will also help if they have knowledge of your situation just in case "The Pull Chain Facility hits the Fan".

Maybe, just maybe this guy has a reason for being so paranoid. Sounds as if you did everything correctly. This guy sounds like he could become a little scary. If you haven't already I would git a nice big folder and save all of his rants and threats, dates and times. Even E Bay's letter. If this guy is still carrying on I would consider contacting one of if not all of the alphabet agencies, he has threatened you and one can assume he is armed.

Beautiful looking build. The interior really stands out and I like the way you posed the doors open.

This looks fantastic, I like that color from that era but it's not often seen. The Custom Interior option looks perfect. Is the 3x2 set up off of one of the Corvette kits ??

Great looking BMW, the paint is super smooth looking. Got a little camber in the front end which I'm sure was by design.
-
Nice clean looking GTO. I like the chrome trim and the interior looks great also.

Very clean looking build. I like the extra wheel and tire details. Perfect for your Corvette collection.
-
Very nice paint and cleanly done trim. The additional wheels and tires along with the slightly lowered stance really makes it far better than stock.

What did you see on the road today?

I wonder if such vehicle desecrations have to be reported to Car Fax much like a major accident or something. -

I think that one of the reasons the roof appears different between the Olds and the Chevy has more to do with the shape of the Quarter Panels. The Chevy has very pronounced flair/arch over the rear wheel opening and the Olds it is much smoother. Outside of measuring actual cars, I think if you just hold a finger or two over the body portion in the above pictures you will get the idea. My own thought is that it would cost GM far to much to have this much difference in roof panels between two models based on the same basic body. -
Great looking Type 1. I like the style of your build. Having the running boards at the folding top colors match really catches your eye.

I respect your reluctance to cut up a vintage kit that may be unreplaceable. The White Letter tires are sort of like Fender Skirts, it may just be me but the two just don't go together. You could always try it both ways and see what you like and then do that. Should you want to remove the skirts just take your time doing it. Many slow cuts are less likely to damage the body by pressing to hard or having the blade go out of the grove when cutting.

Great looking kustom. I are correct about the little shoe box Fords getting customized. They were inexpensive and plentiful. Many of your modifications are long the lines of the old traditional style. The things I see that really bring it to a more present day are the Chrysler grill and the sun roof. The paint is really outstanding also.
